## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Keyword Suggestions Scraper (Autocomplete) - Google, YouTube, Amazon, Bing, DuckDuckGo

Collect **autocomplete keyword suggestions** from five engines in one run, with optional A-Z or question expansion, for SEO and long-tail keyword research. No login, no API key.

> **Important: this Actor returns no search volume, CPC or competition data.** Autocomplete shows what is suggested and in which order (`position`). Use it for idea generation and long-tail discovery, then check volumes in a dedicated keyword tool.

### What does Keyword Suggestions Scraper (Autocomplete) do?

- Query Google, YouTube, Amazon, Bing and DuckDuckGo for many seeds at once.
- Expand each seed with `alphabet` (a-z, 0-9) or `questions` (who, what, how, vs, near...) variants.
- Go recursive with `maxDepth` 2 to discover more long-tail suggestions.
- Choose country and language (Amazon picks the marketplace from the country).
- Get each suggestion with its `position` rank and the exact query that produced it.

### Why use it

- **5 engines in one run** and one flat, deduplicated table.
- **Expansion is free**: a seed is billed once per engine, however many expansion queries it took.
- **Pay only for results**: seeds with no suggestion are not charged.
- **No login, API key or proxy.**

### Use cases

- Long-tail keyword and blog ideas for SEO.
- Amazon product research and listing keywords per marketplace.
- YouTube title and tag ideas.
- Question mining for FAQ and People-Also-Ask style content.
- Comparing what different engines suggest for the same seed.

### How to use

1. Open the Actor on Apify and click **Try for free** (or call it through the API).
2. Enter **seed keywords**, pick **engines** and an **expansion** mode.
3. Click **Start**, then download the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read it through the API.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "seeds": ["running shoes", "standing desk"],
  "engines": ["google", "youtube", "amazon", "bing", "duckduckgo"],
  "country": "us",
  "language": "en",
  "expand": "questions",
  "maxDepth": 1,
  "dedupe": true
}
```

- `expand`: `none` (seed only), `alphabet` (seed + `a`..`z`, `0`..`9`: 37 requests per engine), `questions` (`who/what/how/why/where/when/can/is/are/do/does + seed` and `seed + vs/versus/for/near/with/without/to/in/on/like/and/or`: 24 requests per engine).
- `maxDepth` 2: every depth-1 suggestion is queried once more as a plain query (recursive discovery). This can mean hundreds of requests; `maxQueriesPerSeedEngine` (default 500) caps it.
- `country`/`language`: sent as `hl`/`gl` (Google, YouTube), `mkt` (Bing), `kl` (DuckDuckGo). Amazon picks the marketplace from `country`: us, uk/gb, de, fr, es, it, ca, jp, in, au.

### Output example

```json
{
  "seed": "running shoes",
  "engine": "google",
  "country": "us",
  "language": "en",
  "suggestion": "running shoes women",
  "position": 3,
  "expansion": "running shoes",
  "depth": 1
}
```

`position` is the 1-based rank inside the response to the query in `expansion` (the exact text that was sent). With `dedupe`, a suggestion is reported where it was first seen.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription. You pay only for what is returned:

| Event | Price per 1,000 | 1,000 | 10,000 | 100,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| seed x engine | $3.00 | $3.00 | $30.00 | $300.00 |

Example: 1,000 seed-engine runs cost $3.00; 10,000 cost $30.00.

A seed is charged once per engine, only if it returned at least one suggestion. For example 100 seeds on 3 engines = 300 seed-engine runs = $0.90, even with `alphabet` expansion.

Platform usage (compute) is included in the event price; there is nothing else to pay for.

### Integrations & API

Run it from code with the Apify API. Replace `<APIFY_TOKEN>` with your API token.

**Python** (`pip install apify-client`)

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bachiembmt/keyword-suggestions-multi-engine").call(run_input={"seeds": ["running shoes"], "engines": ["google", "youtube"], "country": "us", "language": "en", "expand": "questions"})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

**cURL** (run synchronously and get dataset items)

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/bachiembmt~keyword-suggestions-multi-engine/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<APIFY_TOKEN>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"seeds": ["running shoes"], "engines": ["google", "youtube"], "country": "us", "language": "en", "expand": "questions"}'
```

Works with:

- **Make** and **Zapier**: use the Apify app/module to run this Actor and pass the dataset on.
- **n8n**: use the Apify node or an HTTP Request node with the API call above.
- **Google Sheets**: export the dataset as CSV, or use the Apify integration to append rows automatically.
- **Webhooks**: trigger your own endpoint when a run finishes; combine with Apify schedules for recurring jobs.
- **AI agents**: expose the Actor as a tool through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com).

### FAQ

**Do I get search volume, CPC or competition?**
No. Autocomplete only shows what is suggested and in which order. Use the output for ideas, then check volumes in a dedicated keyword tool.

**Why is my output smaller than expected?**
`dedupe` removes repeats and engines return roughly 8-12 suggestions per query; some locales return fewer.

**Which engines are billed?**
Each seed x engine that produced results, once.

**Do I need an account or API key for the source?**
No. The Actor needs no login or source API key. You only need an Apify account to run it.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?**
Uses unofficial public autocomplete endpoints with anonymous requests. Respect each engine's terms of service; no personal data is collected. This is general information, not legal advice.

### Limitations

- No search volume or trend data (see above).
- Result counts are decided by each engine: ~8-12 suggestions per query; Amazon often fewer. Some queries have none.
- Suggestions are personalised by nothing here (anonymous requests) but vary by country/language and over time.
- Requests are throttled to 1 per second per host, so `alphabet` on 5 engines takes about 1-2 minutes per seed (Google and YouTube share a host and are throttled together).
- Endpoints are unofficial public autocomplete endpoints; engines may change or rate-limit them. Failures are logged as warnings and the run continues.
