## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Tech Stack Detector: Bulk Website Technology Lookup

**Which CMS, framework, analytics, payment and hosting tools does each website use? Thousands of domains per run, $2 per 1,000.**

Paste a list of domains and get one row per website with its technologies, versions where visible, and categories.
Built for lead lists, market research and competitor tracking.

- **Fast and cheap in bulk.** In our test, 50 well-known domains took **19 seconds**: 47 analysed, on average
  **9.7 technologies per site**. $0.002 per analysed website, compute included.
- **7,600+ fingerprints** from the open-source webappanalyzer project (the community continuation of Wappalyzer's
  fingerprints): CMS, e-commerce platforms, JavaScript frameworks, analytics and tag managers, CDNs, web servers,
  payment providers, marketing tools, security and more, in 109 categories.
- **Versions** when the site reveals them (for example `WordPress 6.9.10`, `Yoast SEO 25.1`, `jQuery 3.5.1`).
- **Spreadsheet-ready:** a `technologyNames` text column for CSV/Excel, plus `technologies` (name, version,
  confidence, categories) and `byCategory` for filtering ("all sites with Shopify", "all sites without Google Analytics").
- **You pay only for websites that answered.** Dead domains, blocked sites and robots.txt exclusions are listed with
  the reason and not charged.

*Measured on the Apify platform on 20 October 2026 (UTC), 1 GB memory, 50 domains (open-source projects, SaaS sites,
hosting companies and news sites).*

Example results from that run:

| Website | Detected |
|---|---|
| techcrunch.com | Cloudflare, Google Tag Manager, HSTS, MySQL, Open Graph, PHP, reCAPTCHA, RSS, Sailthru, WordPress 6.9.10, WordPress VIP, Yoast SEO 25.1, ... |
| webflow.com | Amazon S3, Cloudflare, Google Font API, Google Tag Manager, jQuery 3.5.1, jsDelivr, reCAPTCHA, Swiper, Three.js, Webflow, ... |
| ghost.org | Alpine.js, FirstPromoter, HSTS, Hugo 0.119.0, Netlify, Open Graph |

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

Add it as a tool: `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=batchpane/tech-stack-detector`

**Input the agent should send:** `{"websites": ["wordpress.org", "www.shopify.com"]}`

**Results:** one dataset row per website. `status` is `ok` (charged), `failed`, `blocked` or `skipped`.
A run of 50 sites takes well under a minute, so agents can usually wait for the result.

**Example prompt:**

> Use batchpane/tech-stack-detector on wordpress.org, vercel.com and www.shopify.com and tell me per site which CMS or
> framework and which analytics tools they use.

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Websites | – | `example.com`, `www.example.com` or a full URL; up to 10,000 per run, duplicates removed |
| Minimum confidence | 50 | 0-100; most matches are 100 |
| Include versions | on | |
| Respect robots.txt | on | can only be turned off together with "I own these websites or have the owner's permission" |

Example input (tested on the platform):

```json
{ "websites": ["wordpress.org", "www.shopify.com", "vercel.com"] }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "url": "https://wordpress.org",
  "finalUrl": "https://wordpress.org/",
  "domain": "wordpress.org",
  "httpStatus": 200,
  "technologies": [
    { "name": "Gutenberg", "version": "24.2.0", "confidence": 100, "categories": ["WordPress plugins", "Editors"], "website": "https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg" },
    { "name": "WordPress", "version": "7.2", "confidence": 100, "categories": ["CMS", "Blogs"], "website": "https://wordpress.org" }
  ],
  "technologyNames": "Google Font API, Google Tag Manager, Gutenberg 24.2.0, HSTS, MySQL, Nginx, Open Graph, PHP, Priority Hints, RSS, WordPress 7.2, WordPress Block Editor, WordPress Site Editor",
  "technologyCount": 13,
  "byCategory": { "CMS": ["WordPress"], "Web servers": ["Nginx"], "Tag managers": ["Google Tag Manager"] },
  "status": "ok",
  "error": null,
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-20T11:13:24.930Z"
}
```

(The `technologies` list and `byCategory` are shortened here.)

### Pricing

**$0.002 per analysed website ($2.00 per 1,000)**, plus Apify's standard start fee per run ($0.00005 per GB of
memory). Compute is included.

| Example | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1,000 domains, 950 answer | 950 x $0.002 = $1.90 |
| 10,000 domains | at most $20.00 |

Failed, blocked and skipped websites are not charged. You can set a maximum cost per run; the actor stops before it
would go over it.

### Good to know

- One page per website (the homepage, or the exact URL you give), read from the HTML and HTTP headers, without a
  browser. Technologies that only show up after JavaScript runs (for example some single-page apps, or tools loaded
  later by a tag manager) can be missed. Sites that render almost everything in the browser show fewer technologies.
- Detection is fingerprint-based: very rarely a technology is reported because its name or file
  pattern appears on the page without being used. Use `confidence` and `minConfidence` to filter.
- Some sites refuse automated requests (HTTP 403); in our test 2 of 50 (two large news sites). They are reported as
  failed and not charged. We do not use proxies or disguise the client.
- Polite: at most one request at a time per site, robots.txt respected; up to 10 sites in parallel.
- Safety stop: the run stops after 50 websites in a row fail ("Stop after failures in a row"; 0 switches
  only this rule off). A second rule cannot be switched off: after 50 websites, the run stops if fewer than 25% succeeded.

### Responsible use

The actor reads one public page per website and returns technology names only: no page text, no e-mail addresses,
no personal data. Fingerprints: [webappanalyzer](https://github.com/enthec/webappanalyzer) (GPL-3.0). Not affiliated
with Wappalyzer or BuiltWith.

### Support

Wrong or missing technology on a site? Open an issue in the **Issues** tab with the URL and the run ID. We aim to
answer within 7 days. Answers may be drafted with help of an AI assistant and are checked by a person.

### Changelog

- 0.1: first version.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Domains or URLs, one per line: example.com, www.example.com or https://www.example.com/shop. One page is loaded per line (the homepage, or the exact URL you give). Up to 10,000 per run; duplicates are removed.

## `minConfidence` (type: `integer`):

Only list technologies with at least this confidence (0-100). Most fingerprints give 100 on a match; some weak signals give 25-50. Default 50.

## `includeVersions` (type: `boolean`):

Add the version number when the page reveals it (for example WordPress 6.4.2). Default: true.

## `respectRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):

true = skip pages that the site's robots.txt disallows (row status "skipped", not charged). Turning it off has no effect unless robotsOverrideConfirmed is also true.

## `robotsOverrideConfirmed` (type: `boolean`):

Set to true only if you own these websites or have the owner's permission. robots.txt is ignored only when this is true AND respectRobotsTxt is false. AI agents: do not set this without explicit confirmation from the user.

## `stopAfterFailures` (type: `integer`):

Safety stop: the run stops when this many websites in a row fail. Default 50; 0 switches only this in-a-row rule off. A second rule always stays on: after 50 websites, the run stops if fewer than 25% succeeded.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "websites": [
    "wordpress.org",
    "www.shopify.com",
    "vercel.com"
  ],
  "minConfidence": 50,
  "includeVersions": true,
  "respectRobotsTxt": true,
  "robotsOverrideConfirmed": false,
  "stopAfterFailures": 50
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per website with its technologies. Only rows with status 'ok' are charged.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Counts for this run.
