## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews Scraper

Download **Apple App Store customer reviews** for any app — rating, title, full review text, app version, author, and date — in bulk, as clean JSON. No Apple developer account, no API key.

**You pay per review delivered.** An app with no reviews in that storefront, or a bad app id, costs $0.

Built for app teams watching their own ratings, competitors tracking rivals, and anyone mining reviews for product feedback or sentiment analysis.

### Input

```json
{
    "apps": [
        "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252",
        "284882215"
    ],
    "country": "us",
    "maxReviews": 200,
    "sortBy": "mostRecent"
}
```

- `apps` — App Store URLs or bare numeric app ids.
- `country` — storefront code (`us`, `gb`, `de`, `jp`, …); reviews are per-country, so run several to go global.
- `maxReviews` — 1–500 per app (Apple's public feed caps around 500 most-recent).
- `sortBy` — `mostRecent` or `mostHelpful`.

### Output per review

```json
{
    "appId": "389801252",
    "appName": "Instagram",
    "country": "us",
    "rating": 1,
    "title": "Keeps crashing",
    "body": "Latest update crashes when I open stories…",
    "author": "user123",
    "version": "448.0.0",
    "updated": "2026-09-28T10:14:00-07:00"
}
```

Apps with no reviews come back as `{ appId, error, errorType }` and are **not charged**.

### What people use it for

- **App teams:** monitor your own 1-star reviews and version-specific regressions
- **Competitive research:** pull a rival app's reviews to find what users love and hate
- **Product & UX:** feed reviews into sentiment analysis or an LLM for themes
- **ASO:** track rating trends across country storefronts

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -s -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/beacondata~app-store-reviews-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"apps": ["389801252"], "country": "us", "maxReviews": 100}'
```

Works everywhere Apify does: REST API, scheduled runs, webhooks, the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp) (AI agents can call it as a tool), n8n, Make, Zapier.

### Honest limitations

- Apple's public review feed returns up to ~500 most-recent reviews per app per country — not the full lifetime history. Run multiple `country` storefronts to widen coverage.
- This is the Apple App Store (iOS). Google Play is a separate store.

### Automate it with n8n

A ready-made workflow pulls your week's reviews from BOTH stores every Monday and emails one digest — counts, average rating, and the negative reviews that need a reply. In n8n: **Workflow → Import from URL**:

```
https://inmanjeffrey89-cell.github.io/data-tools/workflows/t1-app-review-digest.json
```

No community nodes (plain HTTP Request) — works on n8n Cloud and self-hosted. [More ready-made workflows](https://inmanjeffrey89-cell.github.io/data-tools/n8n-workflows).

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

The apps to pull reviews for. Accepts full App Store URLs (apps.apple.com/.../id389801252) or bare numeric app IDs — one per line, mix freely. Required.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter App Store country code (us, gb, de, jp…). Reviews are per-country, so the same app has different reviews in each storefront — run several countries to widen coverage. Default us.

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

How many of the most-recent reviews to return per app, 1 to 500. Apple's public feed caps at about 500 per app per country, so values above that return whatever is available. You are only charged per review actually delivered. Default 200.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Order reviews by newest first (best for monitoring) or by most helpful (best for the reviews users found most useful). Default most recent.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252"
  ],
  "country": "us",
  "maxReviews": 200,
  "sortBy": "mostRecent"
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `reviews` (type: `string`):

One item per review: appId, appName, country, reviewId, rating, title, body, author, version, updated. Apps with no reviews carry error + errorType and are not charged.
