## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Play Reviews Scraper

Download **Google Play Store reviews** for any Android app — rating, full review text, app version, author, date, and helpful-count — in bulk, as clean JSON. No Google Play Developer account, no API key.

**You pay per review delivered.** An app with no reviews, or a bad package name, costs $0.

Built for app teams watching their own ratings, competitors tracking rivals, and anyone mining reviews for product feedback or sentiment analysis. Pairs with the [App Store Reviews Scraper](https://apify.com/beacondata/app-store-reviews-scraper) for full iOS + Android coverage.

### Input

```json
{
    "apps": [
        "com.instagram.android",
        "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music"
    ],
    "country": "us",
    "lang": "en",
    "maxReviews": 200,
    "sortBy": "newest"
}
```

- `apps` — Play Store URLs or bare package names (`com.instagram.android`).
- `country` / `lang` — reviews differ by storefront and language; run several to go global.
- `maxReviews` — 1–2000 per app (paginated automatically).
- `sortBy` — `newest`, `rating`, or `relevance`.

### Output per review

```json
{
    "appId": "com.instagram.android",
    "country": "us",
    "author": "Jordan R.",
    "rating": 1,
    "text": "Latest update keeps crashing when I open reels…",
    "date": "2026-09-28T10:14:00.000Z",
    "thumbsUp": 42,
    "version": "418.0.0"
}
```

Apps with no reviews come back as `{ appId, error, errorType }` and are **not charged**.

### What people use it for

- **App teams:** monitor your own 1-star reviews and version-specific regressions
- **Competitive research:** pull a rival app's reviews to see what users love and hate
- **Product & UX:** feed reviews into sentiment analysis or an LLM for themes
- **ASO:** track rating trends across country storefronts

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -s -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/beacondata~google-play-reviews-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"apps": ["com.instagram.android"], "country": "us", "maxReviews": 100}'
```

Works everywhere Apify does: REST API, scheduled runs, webhooks, the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp) (AI agents can call it as a tool), n8n, Make, Zapier.

### Honest limitations

- Reviews are per country + language — one run covers one storefront; run several for worldwide coverage.
- This is Google Play (Android). The Apple App Store is a separate store (see the companion actor).

### Automate it with n8n

A ready-made workflow pulls your week's reviews from BOTH stores every Monday and emails one digest — counts, average rating, and the negative reviews that need a reply. In n8n: **Workflow → Import from URL**:

```
https://inmanjeffrey89-cell.github.io/data-tools/workflows/t1-app-review-digest.json
```

No community nodes (plain HTTP Request) — works on n8n Cloud and self-hosted. [More ready-made workflows](https://inmanjeffrey89-cell.github.io/data-tools/n8n-workflows).

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

The apps to pull reviews for. Accepts Google Play URLs (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=…) or bare package names like com.instagram.android — one per line, mix freely. Required.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter Play Store country code (us, gb, de, in…). Reviews differ by country. Default us.

## `lang` (type: `string`):

Two-letter language code for review content and locale (en, es, de…). Default en.

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

How many reviews to return per app, 1 to 2000. Higher pulls more pages. You are only charged per review actually delivered. Default 200.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Order reviews by newest first (best for monitoring), by rating, or by Google's relevance ranking. Default newest.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "com.instagram.android"
  ],
  "country": "us",
  "lang": "en",
  "maxReviews": 200,
  "sortBy": "newest"
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `reviews` (type: `string`):

One item per review: appId, country, reviewId, author, rating, text, date, thumbsUp, version. Apps with no reviews carry error + errorType and are not charged.
