## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## French Company Search (SIRENE) by NAF & Department

Search and filter French companies by **activity (NAF / APE code)**, **department or postal code**, **company size** and **status**, using public data from the SIRENE register of INSEE. Get a clean table of exactly the companies you are looking for, with SIREN number, legal form, head office address and NAF code, ready for Excel, CSV, JSON or your CRM. **No API key, no code, no setup.**

*Not affiliated with or endorsed by INSEE or the French government.*

### What can you use it for?

- **Build lead lists by sector and area.** All active bakeries in Paris, software companies in Lyon, construction firms in Brittany: one run, one spreadsheet.
- **Target by company size.** Filter on INSEE's size categories (SME, mid-size, large) to reach the companies that fit your offer.
- **Size a market.** Count how many companies are active per NAF code and department.
- **Enrich and clean your CRM.** Check SIREN numbers, legal forms and head office addresses, and spot companies that have closed (cessée), with the date.
- **Combine countries.** The columns follow the same layout as our UK Companies House search, so French and British lists merge without conversion.

### What you get

Real output from a test run (NAF code 10.71C, department 75, active companies):

**Companies only, no people.** No directors (dirigeants), shareholders or personal contact details: this Actor never requests them. **Sole traders (entrepreneurs individuels) are left out entirely**, because their business name is usually the owner's own name. The same goes for joint ownerships between private persons and for records that are not fully public.

The columns follow one standard layout (**company-registry v1**), the same as our other national company register searches. Download the results as **Excel, CSV, JSON, XML or HTML**, or pull them in via the Apify API, Zapier, Make or Google Sheets.

**Data source and licence.** Source: [INSEE](https://www.insee.fr), Sirene database of companies and establishments, retrieved live through the public [Recherche d'entreprises API](https://recherche-entreprises.api.gouv.fr) of [annuaire-entreprises.data.gouv.fr](https://annuaire-entreprises.data.gouv.fr). Licensed under the [Licence Ouverte / Open Licence 2.0](https://www.etalab.gouv.fr/licence-ouverte-open-licence/). The retrieval date of every record is in `retrievedAt`.

### How much does it cost?

You pay **per company**: **$3.00 per 1,000 companies** (pay-per-event). A list of 200 companies costs $0.60.

- You are only charged for **valid companies** that land in your dataset. Searches without matches, excluded sole traders and failed requests are never charged.
- Set a **maximum cost per run** in the run options. The run stops cleanly when that budget is reached.
- Set **Maximum results** to cap the size of a run.

### Built to be reliable

- **Straight from the register.** Data is read live through the public SIRENE search API, not scraped from web pages. Website redesigns don't break it.
- **Fast enough, and fair.** About 1,500 companies per minute. Requests are paced at one per second, well below the API's limits, and the run pauses when the API asks to slow down.
- **Checks that the data is real.** Every record is validated (SIREN checksum, name, dates, address). An empty or broken answer is retried and reported, never charged.
- **Honest results.** If nothing matches your filters, the run says so clearly and costs nothing.
- **Finishes on time.** A very large search stops cleanly before the run timeout and keeps everything found so far.
- **Clear error report.** Every run saves a `RUN_SUMMARY` with the number of companies, the number of excluded sole traders and any failed requests per cause: proxy, rate limit, blocked, network or other.

### How to use it

1. Fill in one or more filters: **NAF codes**, **Departments**, **Postal codes**, **Activity sections**, **Company size category** or **Company name or address contains**.
2. Choose the **Company status** (active by default) and set **Maximum results**.
3. Click **Start** and download your list when the run finishes.

Not sure which NAF code you need? Search the [official NAF rév. 2 list](https://www.insee.fr/fr/information/2406147) of INSEE.

### Input

    "status": "active",
    "maxResults": 50
}
```
### FAQ
**Why does a search on Paris return a company with its head office in Lille?** Department and postal code filters match companies with **at least one establishment** in that area, for example a bakery chain with a shop in Paris. The address in the results is always the **head office** (siège).
**Why are there no sole traders?** By design. A sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) is a private person, and the business name is usually their own name. This Actor only returns legal entities such as companies, associations and public bodies.
**Why are there no directors or e-mail addresses?** By design: this Actor only collects company data, no personal data.
**Do I need an API key?** No. The SIRENE search API is open, and the Actor works out of the box.
**How many companies can one search return?** Up to 10,000. This Actor is built for targeted searches: combine NAF codes, departments, size and status to get exactly the companies you need. For more, split the search, for example by department.
**How fresh is the data?** It is read live at the moment of your run, from the register as published by INSEE.
**Is this legal?** The SIRENE register is public open data, and this Actor reads it through the public search API. Source: INSEE, Sirene database, under the [Licence Ouverte / Open Licence 2.0](https://www.etalab.gouv.fr/licence-ouverte-open-licence/). You remain responsible for how you use the data, for example under the GDPR and French rules on commercial prospecting.
**Is this an official INSEE service?** No. Not affiliated with or endorsed by INSEE or the French government.
**A run returned fewer companies than expected.** Open `RUN_SUMMARY` in the run's storage: it shows how many records were excluded (sole traders) and how many requests failed and why.
**Something is broken or missing?** Open an issue on the Issues tab. We usually reply within a few working days.
# Actor input Schema
## `nafCodes` (type: `array`):
NAF rév. 2 codes (code APE), e.g. 10.71C (bakeries) or 62.01Z (software development). A company matches if its main activity is one of these codes.
## `departments` (type: `array`):
French department codes, e.g. 75 (Paris), 69 (Rhône), 2A or 974. A company matches if it has at least one establishment there.
## `postalCodes` (type: `array`):
5-digit postal codes, e.g. 75011. A company matches if it has at least one establishment there.
## `status` (type: `string`):
Active companies only, closed companies only, or both.
## `query` (type: `string`):
Free text, e.g. boulangerie or a town. Leave empty to search on the other filters only.
## `sections` (type: `array`):
Broad NAF sections, e.g. F (construction) or J (information and communication). Use NAF codes above for a precise activity.
