## Pricing

$2.00 / 1,000 domains

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### 🌐 What is Domain RDAP and DNS?

Every domain or URL you list comes back as one row from RDAP, the official successor of WHOIS, with DNS lookups alongside. Unregistered ones are shown as available.

- **Domain portfolios**: see which of your domains expire in the next 90 days
- **Lead qualification**: check the age and mail setup of prospects' domains
- **Security and fraud**: flag newly registered domains in links, sign-ups or phishing reports
- **Domain investing**: check in bulk which names are still free

![Domain RDAP and DNS: Domains to registrar, creation and expiry dates, age, status, nameservers, DNSSEC and DNS records from official RDAP, in bulk.](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/domain-rdap-hero.png)

#### ✨ Why use this Actor?

- ✅ **Official source**: RDAP from the registry, structured JSON instead of parsed WHOIS text
- ✅ **Ready-made numbers**: `ageDays` and `daysToExpiry` computed for you
- ✅ **DNS in the same row**: A, AAAA, MX, NS, SPF and the TXT count; switch off with `dns: false`
- ✅ **Free or taken**: unregistered domains get `registered: false`
- ✅ **Pay per domain**: 0.0024 USD per domain; failed inputs are not charged

### 📦 What data can you get with Domain RDAP and DNS?

| | | |
|---|---|---|
| 🏢 Registrar and IANA id | 📅 Created, updated, expires | ⏳ Age and days to expiry |
| 🚦 Status codes | 🧭 Nameservers | 🔐 DNSSEC |
| 🖥️ A and AAAA records | 📬 MX records | 🛡️ SPF record |
| ✅ Registered or free |  |  |

### 🚀 How to use Domain RDAP and DNS

Domain RDAP and DNS works in a few clicks, no coding needed:

1. [Create a free Apify account](https://console.apify.com/sign-up) (the free plan includes 5 USD of monthly credit).
2. Open [Domain RDAP and DNS](https://apify.com/bepolabs/domain-rdap) and click **Try for free**.
3. Paste domains or URLs, one per line.
4. Click **Start** and wait for the run to finish (most runs take seconds).
5. Download your data as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML, or send it straight to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or your AI agent.

![How Domain RDAP and DNS works](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/domain-rdap-workflow.png)

### ⬇️ Input

Only `domains` is required; URLs are reduced to their domain.

##### DNS

On by default; `dns: false` skips the DNS lookups and returns the RDAP data only.

##### Country domains

RDAP covers all generic extensions (.com, .org, .app) and the country ones whose registry runs RDAP; others get `result: unsupported` and are not charged.

| Field | Type | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Domains** (`domains`) | array | Domains or URLs (the host is used, www. | `["apify.com","github.com"]` |
| **DNS records** (`dns`) | boolean | Add A, AAAA, MX, NS and SPF records. | `true` |
| **Maximum retries** (`maxRetries`) | integer | Retries per request with exponential backoff on network errors, 429 and 5xx. | `3` |

![Domain RDAP and DNS input form](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/domain-rdap-input.png)

#### Input example

```json
{
    "domains": [
        "apify.com",
        "github.com",
        "bbc.co.uk"
    ]
}
```

### ⬆️ Output

Every domain becomes one row. The run summary (`OUTPUT`) counts answered, unsupported and failed domains.

![Domain RDAP and DNS output table](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/domain-rdap-output.png)

#### Output example

One row of the dataset (a real run of 2026-10-16):

```json
{
    "domain": "wikipedia.org",
    "result": "ok",
    "reason": null,
    "registered": true,
    "rdapServer": "https://rdap.publicinterestregistry.org/rdap/",
    "error": null,
        "ns2.wikimedia.org"
    ],
    "spf": "v=spf1 include:_cidrs.wikimedia.org ~all",
    "txtCount": 3
}
```

View the results as a table or JSON in the Output tab and download them as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, HTML or RSS, all fields or only those you pick.

### 💰 How much does Domain RDAP and DNS cost?

Domain RDAP and DNS is priced **per event**: **2.4 USD per 1,000 domains** (0.0024 USD per domain), with no monthly rental. Each result saved to the dataset is charged; failed inputs are free.

| You get | You pay |
|---|---|
| 100 domains | 0.24 USD |
| 1,000 domains | 2.4 USD |
| 10,000 domains | 24 USD |
| 100,000 domains | 240 USD |

💡 Apify's free plan gives you 5 USD of credit every month, enough for about **2,083 domains** at no cost. Set a spending limit per run and the Actor stops there.

### ⚖️ Domain RDAP and DNS vs. the alternatives

| | Domain RDAP and DNS | WHOIS scrapers | Lookup websites |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Official structured source** | ✅ RDAP | ❌ parsed text | varies |
| **Bulk lists** | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ |
| **DNS records in the same row** | ✅ | rarely | ❌ |
| **Age and days to expiry** | ✅ | rarely | ❌ |

### 🔌 Integrations, API and MCP

#### Connect Domain RDAP and DNS to your AI agent (MCP)

Give Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client direct access to Domain RDAP and DNS through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com). Add this URL to its settings:

```text
https://mcp.apify.com/?actors=bepolabs/domain-rdap
```

For Claude Desktop, add it under `mcpServers` in `claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "domain-rdap": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@apify/actors-mcp-server",
                "--actors",
                "bepolabs/domain-rdap"
            ],
            "env": {
                "APIFY_TOKEN": "<your Apify API token>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```

Then ask: *"Check these 30 domains and tell me which expire within 60 days and which have no MX record."*

#### Run it from your code

Python (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bepolabs/domain-rdap").call(run_input={"domains":["apify.com","github.com","bbc.co.uk"]})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

JavaScript (`npm install apify-client`):

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: '<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>' });
const run = await client.actor('bepolabs/domain-rdap').call({"domains":["apify.com","github.com","bbc.co.uk"]});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);
```

#### No-code integrations

Send results to **Google Sheets, Slack, Airtable, HubSpot, Make, Zapier, n8n** and more from the Integrations tab, start runs on a **schedule**, or trigger your own endpoint with a **webhook** when a run finishes. The [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2) gives you full control over runs and datasets.

### ❓ FAQ

##### Why RDAP and not WHOIS?

RDAP is the official, structured successor of WHOIS that ICANN requires of every generic registry; it returns clean JSON instead of free text.

##### Does it show the owner's name?

Only what the registry publishes; since the GDPR most registries redact private owners, so the Actor does not promise owner contacts.

##### Can it check if a domain is free?

Yes; an unregistered domain gets `registered: false`.

##### Is it legal to use Domain RDAP and DNS?

The Actor queries open RDAP servers and the DNS, the services built for exactly these lookups. Keep within reasonable volumes and their terms.

##### What if something is missing or does not work?

Open an issue on the **Issues** tab; we read each one and reply. Feature requests are welcome too.
