## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### 📇 What is Website Contacts?

This extractor reads a list of homepages and returns one entry each with its public contact details: email (even when hidden behind Cloudflare protection, written as `name [at] domain [dot] com` or encoded as HTML entities), phone line and accounts on YouTube, TikTok, GitHub, Pinterest, XING, Threads and Bluesky. Imprint, about and team sections are read too, so you need not know where a firm keeps them. One input field, no browser, no proxy.

- **Lead enrichment**: add emails, phones and social links to a list of company domains from your CRM
- **Sales prospecting**: turn a list of agencies, shops or suppliers into contactable leads
- **Partnerships and PR**: find the press or hello@ address of every site on your outreach list
- **Data cleaning**: check which websites in a list are unreachable, blocked or have no contact page

![Website Contacts: Company websites to emails, phone numbers and social profiles, one row per site, with a status that says why nothing was found.](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/website-contacts-hero.png)

#### ✨ Why use this Actor?

- ✅ **Decodes hidden emails**: Cloudflare-protected, `[at]`/`[dot]` and HTML-entity addresses are decoded, and each one says where it was found
- ✅ **Looks where contacts live**: follows the site's own contact, imprint, about and team links, up to `maxPagesPerSite` pages
- ✅ **A reason for every empty row**: `status` says ok, no-contacts-found, no-contact-page, blocked, robots-disallowed, unreachable or http-error
- ✅ **Fair by default**: respects robots.txt unless you switch `robots` off
- ✅ **Pay for results only**: websites with nothing found, blocked or unreachable are not charged

### 📦 What data can you get with Website Contacts?

1. [Create a free Apify account](https://console.apify.com/sign-up) (the free plan includes 5 USD of monthly credit).
2. Open [Website Contacts](https://apify.com/bepolabs/website-contacts) and click **Try for free**.
3. Paste the websites (domains or URLs), one per line.
4. Click **Start** and wait for the run to finish (most runs take seconds).
5. Download your data as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML, or send it straight to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or your AI agent.

![How Website Contacts works](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/website-contacts-workflow.png)

### ⬇️ Input

Only `websites` is required: domains such as `apify.com` or full URLs.

##### Limit per site

`maxPagesPerSite` (default 6) caps how many pages are read per website: the homepage plus its contact, imprint, about and team sections.

##### robots.txt

On by default: pages that robots.txt disallows are skipped and the row gets the status `robots-disallowed`.

| Field | Type | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Websites** (`websites`) | array | Company websites, domains or URLs, one per line (example.com or https://example.com/about). | `["apify.com","python.org","wikimedia.org` |
| **Pages per website** (`maxPagesPerSite`) | integer | Homepage plus the site's own contact, imprint, about and team pages, most promising first. | `6` |
| **Honour robots.txt** (`robots`) | boolean | Skip pages the website's robots.txt disallows. | `true` |
| **Maximum retries** (`maxRetries`) | integer | Retries per request with exponential backoff on network errors, 429 and 5xx. | `2` |

#### Input example

```json
{
    "websites": [
        "apify.com",
        "python.org",
        "wikimedia.org"
    ]
}
```

### ⬆️ Output

Every website becomes one row. The run summary (`OUTPUT` in the key-value store) counts websites with contacts, emails, phones and statuses, and lists the problems in plain words.

![Website Contacts output table](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/wdeAWGooHdIhvFgSY/records/website-contacts-output.png)

#### Output example

One row of the dataset (a real run of 2026-10-16):

```json
{
    "website": "apify.com",
    "url": "https://apify.com/",
    "finalUrl": "https://apify.com/",
    "status": "ok",
    "statusDetail": "Contacts found",
    "emails": [
        {
            "email": "support@apify.com",
            "source": "text",
            "page": "https://apify.com/"
        },
        {
            "email": "hello@apify.com",
            "source": "mailto",
            "page": "https://apify.com/contact"
        }
    ],
    "phones": [],
    "socials": {
        "github": "https://github.com/apify",
        "linkedin": "http://linkedin.com/company/apify",
        "x": "https://x.com/apify",
        "tiktok": "https://www.tiktok.com/@apifytech"
    },
    "contactPages": [
        "https://apify.com/contact",
        "https://apify.com/contact-sales",
        "https://apify.com/about"
    ],
    "pagesChecked": 5,
    "error": null
}
```

View the results as a table or JSON in the Output tab and download them as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, HTML or RSS, all fields or only those you pick.

### 💰 How much does Website Contacts cost?

Website Contacts is priced **per event**: **2 USD per 1,000 websites with contacts** (0.002 USD per website with contacts), with no monthly rental. A charge applies per homepage with at least one email, phone or social profile found; empty, blocked, unreachable or robots.txt-skipped ones are free.

| You get | You pay |
|---|---|
| 100 websites with contacts | 0.2 USD |
| 1,000 websites with contacts | 2 USD |
| 10,000 websites with contacts | 20 USD |
| 100,000 websites with contacts | 200 USD |

💡 Apify's free plan gives you 5 USD of credit every month, enough for about **2,500 websites with contacts** at no cost. Set a spending limit per run and the Actor stops there.

### ⚖️ Website Contacts vs. the alternatives

| | Website Contacts | Typical contact scrapers | Searching by hand |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Decodes hidden emails** | ✅ | varies | ❌ |
| **Reason when nothing is found** | ✅ | rarely | – |
| **Charged only for sites with contacts** | ✅ | rarely | – |
| **No browser or proxy needed** | ✅ | varies | – |

### 🔌 Integrations, API and MCP

#### Connect Website Contacts to your AI agent (MCP)

Give Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client direct access to Website Contacts through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com). Add this URL to its settings:

```text
https://mcp.apify.com/?actors=bepolabs/website-contacts
```

For Claude Desktop, add it under `mcpServers` in `claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "website-contacts": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "@apify/actors-mcp-server",
                "--actors",
                "bepolabs/website-contacts"
            ],
            "env": {
                "APIFY_TOKEN": "<your Apify API token>"
            }
        }
    }
}
```

Then ask: *"Find the contact emails and LinkedIn pages of these 20 agency websites and put them in a table."*

#### Run it from your code

Python (`pip install apify-client`):

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("bepolabs/website-contacts").call(run_input={"websites":["apify.com","python.org","wikimedia.org"]})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

JavaScript (`npm install apify-client`):

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: '<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>' });
const run = await client.actor('bepolabs/website-contacts').call({"websites":["apify.com","python.org","wikimedia.org"]});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);
```

#### No-code integrations

Send results to **Google Sheets, Slack, Airtable, HubSpot, Make, Zapier, n8n** and more from the Integrations tab, start runs on a **schedule**, or trigger your own endpoint with a **webhook** when a run finishes. The [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2) gives you full control over runs and datasets.

### ❓ FAQ

##### Why is a website's row empty?

Its `status` and `statusDetail` say why: the site blocked automated visitors, it has no contact page, its robots.txt disallows us, or it did not answer. You are not charged for it.

##### Does it guess emails?

No. It returns only addresses that are on the website, with the page they were found on.

##### Does it run a browser?

No. It reads the HTML of the pages, which keeps runs light and cheap; sites that build their contact page only with JavaScript may return fewer contacts.

##### Is it legal to use Website Contacts?

The Actor reads only public pages of the websites you list and respects robots.txt by default. Emails and phone numbers can be personal data: if you use them for outreach, follow the privacy and marketing rules that apply to you (for example the GDPR and anti-spam laws).

##### What if something is missing or does not work?

Open an issue on the **Issues** tab; we read each one and reply. Feature requests are welcome too.
