## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Scraper: Filings, Full-Text Search & XBRL Financials

Pull clean, structured data from **SEC EDGAR**, the US Securities and Exchange Commission's database of every public-company filing. Get a company's **10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, S-1, DEF 14A, 13F or Form 4** history by ticker, CIK or name, run **EDGAR full-text search** across every filing and exhibit since 2001, and export **XBRL financials** (revenue, net income, EPS, assets, cash flow) as tidy rows. Optionally add the plain text of each filing for AI, NLP or compliance pipelines.

Built on the SEC's official public APIs (data.sec.gov and efts.sec.gov), so it's fast, stable and needs no API key, login or proxy. It follows the SEC fair-access policy: a declared user agent and well under 10 requests per second.

**$0.30 per 1,000 filings, $0.10 per 1,000 financial facts.** Filing text is optional at $1 per 1,000 documents.

### What you can do

- **Filing history for any company**: every filing of Apple, Tesla or a small-cap by ticker (`AAPL`, `BRK-B`), CIK (`320193`) or name, filtered by form type and date. Includes older filings beyond the latest 1,000.
- **EDGAR full-text search**: find every 8-K that mentions `"cybersecurity incident"`, every 10-K with `"going concern"`, or every S-1 mentioning `"artificial intelligence"`. Exact phrases, OR and exclusions work like on sec.gov.
- **Latest filings feed**: leave companies and searches empty and pick form types to get the newest filings across all of EDGAR. Schedule it to monitor new 8-Ks, S-1s or 13Ds every hour.
- **XBRL financials**: reported revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income, EPS, assets, liabilities, equity, cash, debt, operating cash flow, capex and R\&D for each fiscal year or quarter. Uses the SEC's de-duplicated "frames", so each metric and period appears once, with the latest reported value. Ask for any US-GAAP concept, or `*` for all of them.
- **Filing text for AI and research**: the main document of each filing as clean plain text (inline-XBRL markup removed), ready for LLM summaries, risk-factor analysis or keyword tracking.

### Data you get

**Filing rows** (`recordType: "filing"`)

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `companyName`, `cik`, `tickers`, `exchanges` | Apple Inc., 0000320193, \[AAPL], \[Nasdaq] |
| `form`, `filingDate`, `reportDate`, `acceptedAt` | 8-K, 2026-07-30, 2026-07-30, 2026-07-30T20:30:28Z |
| `accessionNumber`, `fileNumber`, `items`, `description` | 0000320193-26-000018, 001-36743, \[2.02, 9.01] |
| `documentUrl`, `filingIndexUrl` | links to the main document and the filing index on sec.gov |
| `sizeBytes`, `isXBRL`, `isInlineXBRL` | 417360, true, true |
| `sic`, `industry`, `stateOfIncorporation`, `businessLocation` | 3571, Electronic Computers, CA, CUPERTINO, CA |
| `text`, `textLength` (optional) | plain text of the filing |
| `source`, `query` | company, search or latest, plus what you asked for |

**Financial rows** (`recordType: "financial-fact"`)

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `concept`, `label`, `taxonomy` | NetIncomeLoss, Net Income (Loss) Attributable to Parent, us-gaap |
| `value`, `unit` | 112010000000, USD |
| `periodStart`, `periodEnd`, `calendarPeriod` | 2024-09-29, 2025-09-27, CY2025 |
| `fiscalYear`, `fiscalPeriod`, `form`, `filedDate`, `accessionNumber` | 2025, FY, 10-K, 2025-10-31 |

The dataset has two views, **Filings** and **Financials**. Download as JSON, CSV, Excel or XML, or use the API.

### How to use

1. Add **companies** (tickers, CIKs or names) and/or **full-text search** queries.
2. Optionally pick **form types** and a **date range**.
3. Turn on **Include XBRL financials** or **Include filing text** if you need them, and click Start.

Example input:

```json
{
  "companies": ["NVDA", "TSLA"],
  "forms": ["10-K", "10-Q"],
  "maxFilingsPerQuery": 8,
  "includeFinancials": true,
  "financialPeriods": "annual",
  "financialYears": 5
}
```

Full-text search for recent cyber-incident 8-Ks:

```json
{ "searchQueries": ["\"cybersecurity incident\""], "forms": ["8-K"], "dateFrom": "2026-01-01" }
```

With empty input the Actor returns the 20 most recent filings on EDGAR.

### Pricing

Pay per result, no subscription:

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Filing | $0.30 per 1,000 |
| Financial fact | $0.10 per 1,000 |
| Filing text (optional) | $1.00 per 1,000 documents |
| Actor start | $0.0005 per GB of memory |

1,000 filings with no text cost about $0.30. Ten years of 16 key annual metrics for 100 companies (about 16,000 facts) cost about $1.60. Set a spending limit and the Actor stops exactly there.

### Tips

- Form 4 (insider trades), 13F-HR (institutional holdings) and SC 13D/G (5% owners) are supported as form filters; parse the linked documents for their details.
- Full-text search covers 2001 onwards and returns one row per filing, with the first matching document in `documentUrl`. EDGAR caps each search at 10,000 hits, so narrow by date for broad terms.
- Companies without XBRL data (funds, foreign private issuers before XBRL) return filings but no financials; this is logged to the `FAILURES` record, not charged.
- Inputs that can't be found are listed in the `FAILURES` key-value record and are free.

### Is it legal?

EDGAR filings are public records published by the US government for anyone to use. This Actor reads only the SEC's public APIs, identifies itself, and respects the SEC's fair-access rate limit.
