# Bulk Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup (RDAP, SPF, DMARC, SSL) (`bewitching_rebec_jvu/bulk-domain-whois-dns-lookup`) Actor

Look up any list of domains: registrar, creation and expiry dates, days until expiry, nameservers, A/AAAA/MX/TXT/NS/CNAME/CAA records, SPF and DMARC policy, and SSL certificate expiry. Uses official RDAP, the modern WHOIS. Fast and cheap per domain.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain WHOIS & DNS Lookup

Check hundreds of domains in one run. For each domain you get the registrar, registration and expiry dates, DNS records, email security (SPF and DMARC), and SSL certificate expiry. Paste a list, click **Start**, and download a spreadsheet.

The Actor uses **RDAP**, the official successor to WHOIS that registries now run. It returns clean, structured dates instead of messy WHOIS text.

### What you get for each domain

- **Registration:** registered or available, registrar, created, updated, and expiry dates
- **Expiry alerts:** days until the domain expires, and domain age in days
- **Status:** registry status codes such as transfer or delete locks, plus DNSSEC
- **DNS records:** A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CNAME, SOA, and CAA
- **Email security:** the SPF record, the DMARC record, and the DMARC policy (none, quarantine, or reject)
- **SSL certificate:** valid or not, issuer, expiry date, and days until expiry
- **Quick flags:** has a website, accepts email

### Common uses

- **Domain portfolio monitoring:** catch domains and SSL certificates before they expire
- **IT and security audits:** find domains missing DMARC or SPF, or with a weak `p=none` policy
- **Agency onboarding:** see a new client's registrar, DNS host, and mail setup in one table
- **Lead and market research:** check domain age and whether a site and mailbox exist
- **Availability checks:** see which names on a list are unregistered

### How to use it

1. Paste domains or full URLs into **Domains**, one per line.
2. Leave **Check SSL certificate** on, or turn it off for a faster run.
3. Click **Start**. Open the "Domains" table, or export JSON, CSV, or Excel.

Run it on a schedule to get a weekly expiry report.

### Pricing

You pay per domain looked up, with no monthly fee. Duplicates are removed first, and **Max domains** caps your cost.

### Sample output

```json
{
  "domain": "example.com",
  "registered": true,
  "registrar": "RESERVED-Internet Assigned Numbers Authority",
  "createdDate": "1995-08-14T04:00:00Z",
  "expiryDate": "2027-08-13T04:00:00Z",
  "daysUntilExpiry": 303,
  "domainAgeDays": 11383,
  "dnssec": true,
  "rdapNameservers": ["elliott.ns.cloudflare.com", "hera.ns.cloudflare.com"],
  "spf": "v=spf1 -all",
  "dmarcPolicy": "reject",
  "records": {"A": ["104.20.23.154"], "MX": ["0 ."], "NS": ["elliott.ns.cloudflare.com."]},
  "hasWebsite": true,
  "hasMail": false,
  "sslValid": true,
  "sslIssuer": "SSL Corporation",
  "sslDaysUntilExpiry": 73
}
```

### Notes

- Data comes from public registry RDAP servers and public DNS. Some registries hide registrant contact details for privacy. This Actor does not collect personal contact data.
- A few country-code registries do not offer RDAP yet. For those, you still get DNS, email security, and SSL data, and `rdapError` explains what was missing.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domains or URLs to look up, one per line. URLs are reduced to their domain, and www. is removed. Duplicates are looked up once.

## `checkSsl` (type: `boolean`):

Connect on port 443 and report the certificate issuer, validity, and days until expiry.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of domains to look up in this run. You are charged per domain looked up.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "apify.com",
    "example.com",
    "python.org"
  ],
  "checkSsl": true,
  "maxDomains": 1000
}
```

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("bewitching_rebec_jvu/bulk-domain-whois-dns-lookup").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
