## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Federal Recompete Radar: facility contracts about to expire

**See which federal janitorial, landscaping, facilities-support and HVAC contracts are ending soon, so you can start positioning before the recompete is posted.**

Federal service contracts get rebid when their period of performance runs out. The contractors who win recompetes usually started months earlier. They met the contracting office, sized up the incumbent, lined up teaming partners and priced the work. This Actor gives you that head start. It lists every matching contract whose end date falls in your window (for example, 3 to 18 months from now) in the states, counties and agencies you care about.

### Who it's for

- Small and mid-size **janitorial, custodial, grounds, facilities-maintenance and HVAC** contractors who go after federal work
- **Capture managers and BD consultants** building a pipeline for clients
- **Teaming and subcontracting** shops looking for primes with expiring work nearby

### What you get

One row per contract:

- award ID and USAspending link
- current contractor (incumbent)
- awarding agency and sub-agency
- NAICS and PSC codes
- total award value
- start and end dates
- **days until end**
- place of performance (state, ZIP)
- the contract description

Real sample from a Virginia run (October 2026; NAICS 561720/561730/561210; awards over $100k):

| Award ID | Incumbent | Agency | NAICS | Value | Ends | Days left |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19AQMM23C0012 | KWAAN TECH, LLC | Dept. of State | 561210 Facilities support | $7,428,588 | 2027-11-30 | 410 |
| HDTRA123C0010 | AKIMA FACILITIES OPERATIONS LLC | Dept. of Defense | 561210 Facilities support | $10,319,860 | 2027-11-21 | 401 |
| 140P5126C0014 | CORE ECOLOGY GROUP LLC | Dept. of the Interior | 561730 Landscaping | $337,595 | 2027-09-30 | 349 |
| 36C24624N0083 | ELEVATED TECHNOLOGIES SERVICES, LLC | Veterans Affairs | 561210 Facilities support | $2,003,608 | 2027-09-30 | 349 |
| 15A00024CAQA00301 | NW WORKS, INC. | Dept. of Justice | 561720 Janitorial | $3,485,232 | 2027-09-28 | 347 |
| 05GA0A26K0094 | EMCOR GOVERNMENT SERVICES, INC | GAO | 561210 Facilities support | $309,336 | 2027-09-30 | 349 |

Export to Excel, CSV or JSON, or send rows to Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier or Make with Apify integrations.

### How to use it

1. Pick your **NAICS codes**. The defaults are 561720 janitorial, 561730 landscaping, 561210 facilities support, 561710 pest control, 561790 other building services and 238220 HVAC/plumbing.
2. Add **states** (for example `VA`, `MD`) or **counties** (`VA:059` for Fairfax: the state, a colon, then the 3-digit county FIPS code).
3. If you like, narrow by **agency** (for example "Department of Veterans Affairs"), **PSC** (S201 custodial, S208 landscaping) and **minimum value** (25000 is a good start).
4. Set the **window**: months from today until the contract ends. The default is 3–18.
5. Run it and open the "Recompetes" table.

### Weekly alerts (only what's new)

1. Turn on **Alert mode** in the input and save the task.
2. Run it once. This first run quietly records everything already in your window and doesn't charge any alerts.
3. In Apify Console, open **Schedules → Create schedule**, pick weekly (for example, Monday 7:00), and add your task.
4. From then on, each run returns only contracts that **newly entered your window** since the last run. Add an email or Slack integration to the task to get them in your inbox.

Keep the alert-mode inputs the same from week to week. A different filter set starts its own fresh baseline.

### Pricing (pay per result)

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Contract result (normal mode) | $0.004 per contract |
| Recompete alert (alert mode, new contracts only) | $0.03 per new contract |

Examples:

- **100 contracts = $0.40**
- 1,000 contracts = $4.00
- A weekly alert that finds 5 new contracts costs $0.15 a week, or about $0.65 a month.

The baseline alert run costs nothing in alerts. Apify's small platform usage fee for the run itself still applies. Use **Max items** or a run's max-charge limit to cap your spend.

### Data source

All data comes from **USAspending.gov**, the official U.S. Treasury public API. It's public-domain federal data and needs no key. The Actor identifies itself politely, paces its requests, and backs off when the API is busy. It is not affiliated with the U.S. government.

**Privacy:** recipients are businesses. Names that look like they could be individuals are dropped by default.

### Limitations (please read)

- **End date is the current period of performance.** Options that haven't been exercised yet can push it out, so treat dates as "earliest likely recompete." Check the solicitation history on SAM.gov.
- Task orders under one umbrella contract show up as separate rows.
- USAspending trails the source by a few days, and **DoD data is delayed about 90 days**.
- County is often blank in results, even when your county filter matched.
- Only contracts with some activity in the last 6 years are searched. You can change this with `activityLookbackYears`.

### Want the live bids too?

This Actor tracks contracts that are *about to* be rebid. For alerts on bids that are open right now, see **BidSweep**, which offers full bid alerts for facility and trade contractors.
