# US Wind Turbines: Specs, FAA & EIA IDs by Radius (USWTDB) (`bigsky-data-tools/us-wind-turbine-database`) Actor

Every US wind turbine (75,000+) as a full row: kW, hub height, rotor, total height, FAA obstruction numbers, EIA plant ID and county FIPS. Radius search nearest first with a summary, or the whole country in one run. Filter by maker, project, year, size.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Wind Turbine Locations & Specs: Wind data from the U.S. Wind Turbine Database (Radius Search, FAA & EIA IDs)

Get **every utility-scale wind turbine in the United States** from **U.S. Wind Turbine Database (USWTDB)** data: exact coordinates, project name and online year, manufacturer and model, capacity, hub height, rotor diameter, total tip height, county, FAA obstruction case numbers and EIA plant ID. **No API key, no login.** Published by BigSky Data Tools.

> **NOT FOR SAFETY-CRITICAL USE: data may be delayed or incomplete; not for life-safety, navigation or emergency decisions; use the official U.S. Wind Turbine Database (USGS, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and American Clean Power Association).**

### Why use this wind turbine dataset tool?

- 📍 **Radius search, nearest first**: "every turbine within 2 miles of this parcel, airstrip, tower site or home". Each row has `distanceMiles`.
- 🏗️ **Full technical specs**: kW, hub height, rotor diameter, swept area and total height in meters.
- 🔎 Filters: states, manufacturer (Vestas, GE, Siemens Gamesa, Nordex...), project name, online year range, minimum kW, onshore or offshore.
- 🔗 **Join keys**: FAA ORS/ASN obstruction numbers, EIA plant ID and county FIPS.
- 🇺🇸 The whole country (75,000+ turbines) in one run, or a single county.
- 🧾 **Radius summary**: in radius mode the run also saves a `SUMMARY` record in its key-value store (turbine count, nearest distance, count within 1 mile, tallest turbine, total MW, projects).

### How it compares

| | This tool | Typical alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| One row per turbine with full specs | **Yes** | Summary counts near a point |
| FAA ORS/ASN and EIA plant IDs | **Yes** | Varies |
| Whole country in one run | **Yes (75,000+)** | No |
| Radius summary (count, nearest, tallest, MW) | **Yes** | Yes |

### Who uses it

Energy analysts and wind developers, repowering and O\&M service sellers, component and crane suppliers, land agents and appraisers, real-estate buyers checking nearby turbines, telecom and radar siting teams, agricultural aviation, insurers, and researchers.

### Input example

```json
{ "latitude": "42.0308", "longitude": "-93.6319", "radiusMiles": 15 }
```

By state and maker: `{ "states": ["TX"], "manufacturer": "Vestas", "minYear": 2020 }`

### Output example

```json
{ "caseId": 3053390, "projectName": "30 MW Iowa DG Portfolio", "projectYear": 2017, "projectTurbines": 10,
  "projectCapacityMw": 30.0, "manufacturer": "Nordex", "model": "AW125/3000", "turbineCapacityKw": 3000,
  "hubHeightM": 87.5, "rotorDiameterM": 125.0, "totalHeightM": 150.0, "offshore": false,
  "state": "IA", "county": "Boone County", "countyFips": "19015", "latitude": 41.97761, "longitude": -93.70042,
  "distanceMiles": 5.09, "faaOrsId": "19-028015", "faaAsn": "2015-WTE-6386-OE", "eiaPlantId": null }
```

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or XML, or use the Apify API, Make, Zapier or n8n.

### Pricing

**$7 per 1,000 results** ($0.007 per result) plus a $0.01 start fee per run.

You pay per turbine saved. A radius search usually returns a few dozen turbines; a whole state can be several thousand.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** From the public API of the U.S. Wind Turbine Database, a public-domain dataset maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the American Clean Power Association. You are responsible for how you use the data.
**How current is it?** USWTDB is updated quarterly. Very new or decommissioned turbines may lag.
**Is this tool run by the data agency?** No. BigSky Data Tools is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by USGS, LBNL or ACP.

# Actor input Schema

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter state codes. Leave empty for all states (about 75,000+ turbines).

## `latitude` (type: `string`):

Optional. With longitude and radius, returns turbines near this point, nearest first (e.g. 42.0308 for Ames, IA).

## `longitude` (type: `string`):

Optional, e.g. -93.6319.

## `radiusMiles` (type: `integer`):

Search radius around the center point.

## `manufacturer` (type: `string`):

Optional, e.g. Vestas, GE Wind, Siemens Gamesa, Nordex.

## `projectName` (type: `string`):

Optional text match on wind project name.

## `minYear` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Project online year, from.

## `maxYear` (type: `integer`):
