## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Canada411 People Search Scraper do?

Look up people listed on canada411.ca, Canada's residential directory. Search a name in a city and province or in a postal code, list everyone in a postal code or at and around a street address, look up who is listed behind a phone number, or paste listing pages you found in the browser. Each listing comes back with the full name, phone number, street address, city, province, postal code and map coordinates. With incremental mode on, a scheduled run returns only listings that are new or changed, plus an EXPIRED row for every listing that disappeared.

**New to Apify?** [Sign up free](https://console.apify.com/sign-up?fpr=1h3gvi) and use the included $5 monthly platform credit to test this actor.

### Key features

- **📍 Coordinates:** `latitude` and `longitude` on each record that has a location, ready for a map.
- **📇 Contact details:** `phone` and `phone_e164`, plus `street_address`, `city`, `province` and `postal_code` as separate fields on every listing that publishes them.
- **🔍 Name, postal code and address search:** search a listed name with `query` in the city and province you name in `location` or in the postal codes in `postalCodes`; leave the name out to get every listing in each postal code, or put street addresses in `addresses` to get the listings at and around each one (neighbours on the same street included; `street_address` tells them apart).
- **🔗 Paste-mode:** paste canada411.ca search URLs or listing pages (`canada411.ca/res/...`) into `startUrls` to get exactly the listings you picked in the browser.
- **📞 Reverse phone lookup:** put 10-digit Canadian numbers in `phoneNumbers` to get the listed name and address behind each one; an unlisted number returns no row and adds no per-result charge (the run's start fee still applies).
- **📋 Listing page check:** `includeDetails` re-reads each listing's own page and stamps when it was confirmed. The search result already carries every field, so this adds certainty, not columns.
- **♻️ Incremental mode:** with `incrementalMode` on, later runs return only listings that are new or changed since the last run with the same search, so a repeat run pays only for what moved.
- **🔔 Notifications:** Telegram, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp Cloud API, and generic webhook out of the box. Pair with incremental for daily new-listing alerts without pipeline glue.
- **📦 Compact output:** `compact` keeps the core fields — name, phone, address, city, province, postal code — for AI agents and small payloads.
- **🔌 MCP connectors:** push your leads into Notion via Apify's MCP connectors — a tidy run-summary page, no export step, no glue code. Opt-in, deterministic field-mapping (no AI). More destinations as Apify's connector catalog grows.
- **🏷️ Change tags:** in incremental mode each row says whether the listing is `NEW`, `UPDATED` or `UNCHANGED`, and with `emitExpired` you also get an `EXPIRED` row for every listing that disappeared.

### What data can you extract from canada411.ca?

Each listing includes `listing_id`, `listing_type`, `full_name`, the phone number (`phone`, `phone_e164`, `phone_formatted`), the address (`street_address`, `city`, `province`, `postal_code`), `latitude` and `longitude`, and the listing URL. Every listing on canada411.ca carries all of these in the search result itself, so no detail visit is needed to get them. In standard mode all fields are always present: missing data is `null`, never omitted. In compact mode only the core fields are returned.

### Input

The main inputs are a search keyword, an optional location filter, and a result limit. Additional filters and options are available in the input schema.

Key parameters:

- **`query`** — Listed name to search for — surname, or first + last name (e.g. "Smith" or "Shelley Smith"). A name search needs a 📍 City + province or a postal code. Use a JSON array for several names: \["Smith","Tremblay"].
- **`location`** — Where to search, as city and two-letter province (e.g. "Toronto ON", "Vancouver BC"). Required — canada411.ca has no nationwide name search. Use a JSON array for several places: \["Toronto ON","Ottawa ON"].
- **`postalCodes`** — Postal codes, e.g. "M9N 3L3". With a name in 🔍 Name(s) to look up, the name is searched in these postal codes instead of (or as well as) a city. Without a name, every listing in each postal code is returned. (default: `[]`)
- **`addresses`** — Street addresses to look up, as street, city and province separated by commas, e.g. "48 Howbert, North York, ON". A postal code may stand in for the province ("48 Howbert, M9N 3L3"). Returns the listings at and around each address: the site also lists neighbours on the same street, so compare street_address to keep only the exact address. Works alongside a name search or on its own. (default: `[]`)
- **`phoneNumbers`** — 10-digit Canadian phone numbers to look up, e.g. "416-243-0072". Each listed number returns the name and address behind it; an unlisted number returns nothing. Works alongside a name search or on its own. (default: `[]`)
- **`maxResults`** — Maximum total listings (0 = unlimited). (default: `100`)
- **`startUrls`** — Paste canada411.ca search-result URLs or listing pages (https://www.canada411.ca/res/...). Each URL becomes its own search task; results are merged and deduped by listing ID across all URLs. When provided, startUrls REPLACE the name/location fields (unsupported URLs are skipped, and if none is supported the run stops with an input error). (default: `[]`)
- **`includeDetails`** — Visit every listing's own page as well. The result list already carries name, phone, full address and coordinates, so leave this off unless you want the listing page re-read — it makes the run slower and more expensive without adding fields. (default: `false`)
- **`compact`** — Core fields only (for AI-agent/MCP workflows). (default: `false`)
- **`excludeEmptyFields`** — Drop null, empty-string, and empty-array fields from each record before push. Smaller payloads for AI agents and dashboards. (default: `false`)
- **`incrementalMode`** — Compare against previous run state. stateKey is optional — defaults to a value derived from search inputs (names, locations, startUrls) so different searches never share state. (default: `false`)
- **`stateKey`** — Optional. Stable identifier for the tracked search universe. Leave empty to auto-generate from search inputs.
- ...and 17 more parameters

### Incremental fields

When incremental mode is on, each record also carries:

- `changeType` — one of `NEW`, `UPDATED`, `UNCHANGED`, `REAPPEARED`, `EXPIRED`. Default output covers `NEW` / `UPDATED` / `REAPPEARED`; set `emitUnchanged: true` or `emitExpired: true` to opt into the others.
- `isRepost`, `repostOfId`, `repostDetectedAt` — populated when a new listing matches the tracked content of a previously expired one. Set `skipReposts: true` to drop detected reposts from the output.
