## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify App Store Scraper: Apps, Category Rankings & Reviews

Scrape the **Shopify App Store** (apps.shopify.com) into clean JSON, CSV or Excel. Pull **app details** (name, developer, rating, review count, pricing plans, categories, launch date), **category rankings** (organic position, sponsored ads excluded), and **merchant reviews** (stars, date, text, store name, country, time using the app, developer reply). The incremental "only newer than" mode makes it cheap to monitor apps on a schedule.

### What can this Shopify App Store scraper do?

- 🏆 **Track category rankings.** Give it any category URL and get the top N apps with their organic rank. Sponsored cards are filtered out.
- 📦 **Scrape app profiles.** Developer, rating, total reviews, every pricing plan, free-plan flag, categories and launch date.
- ⭐ **Scrape reviews.** Newest first, with rating, date, text, store name as shown, country, usage time and developer reply.
- 🔁 **Incremental monitoring.** Set `reviewsNewerThan`. The run stops at the first older review, so you only pay for new reviews.
- 🔎 **Keyword discovery.** Search terms are matched against Shopify's public app sitemap.
- 🤝 **Polite and compliant.** Obeys robots.txt and limits request rate. No logins and no proxies needed. Emails and phone numbers are stripped from text.

### Use cases

Competitor monitoring for Shopify app developers, churn and complaint mining, app-idea validation, agency and investor portfolio tracking, and feeding fresh app-market data into AI agents and dashboards.

### How much does it cost?

Pay per result, with no subscription and no start fee:
| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| App scraped | $0.002 (= $2 per 1,000 apps) |
| Review scraped | $0.0002 (= $0.20 per 1,000 reviews) |

Example: ranking the top 50 apps in a category plus 20 new reviews each comes to 50 × $0.002 + 1,000 × $0.0002 = **$0.30**. Set a max charge in the run options and the scraper stops cleanly at that limit.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `appUrls` | App pages, e.g. `https://apps.shopify.com/judgeme` |
| `categoryUrls` | Category pages, e.g. `https://apps.shopify.com/categories/marketing-and-conversion-social-trust-product-reviews` |
| `searchTerms` | Keywords, e.g. `loyalty` |
| `maxAppsPerCategory` / `maxAppsPerSearchTerm` | Limits |
| `includeReviews`, `maxReviewsPerApp` | Review options |
| `reviewsNewerThan` | `YYYY-MM-DD`; only newer reviews are saved and charged |

```json
{ "categoryUrls": [{ "url": "https://apps.shopify.com/categories/marketing-and-conversion-social-trust-product-reviews" }],
  "maxAppsPerCategory": 30, "includeReviews": true, "maxReviewsPerApp": 20, "reviewsNewerThan": "2026-10-01" }
```

### Output

App item:

```json
{ "type": "app", "name": "Judge.me Product Reviews App", "handle": "judgeme", "developer": "Judge.me", "rating": 5, "reviewCount": 48615,
  "pricingPlans": [{ "name": "Forever Free", "price": "Free" }, { "name": "Awesome", "price": "$15 / month" }], "hasFreePlan": true,
  "categories": [{ "name": "Product reviews", "slug": "marketing-and-conversion-social-trust-product-reviews" }],
  "categoryRank": 1, "rankCategory": "marketing-and-conversion-social-trust-product-reviews", "launched": "June 25, 2015" }
```

Review item:

```json
{ "type": "review", "appHandle": "judgeme", "reviewId": "2397556", "rating": 5, "date": "2026-10-16", "text": "Superschneller Support, Top !",
  "storeName": "AS-TecDive", "country": "Germany", "usageDuration": "5 days using the app", "developerReply": null }
```

The dataset has two views, **Apps** and **Reviews**. Export to JSON, CSV, Excel, or use the API, webhooks, Make, Zapier or n8n.

### FAQ

**Is scraping the Shopify App Store legal?** The scraper collects only publicly visible listing data, obeys robots.txt, and never logs in. Reviews show the store name exactly as Shopify publishes it. Emails and phone numbers in text are removed. Use the data in line with Shopify's terms and the laws that apply to you.
**Why aren't search terms run through Shopify's search page?** robots.txt disallows search URLs (`q=`), so we match terms against the public sitemap instead.
**Some reviews have empty text?** Those are star-only reviews. Shopify shows no text for them.
**Problems or feature requests?** Open an issue on the Issues tab and we usually reply within a day.

# Actor input Schema

## `appUrls` (type: `array`):

Shopify App Store app pages, e.g. https://apps.shopify.com/judgeme

## `categoryUrls` (type: `array`):

Category pages, e.g. https://apps.shopify.com/categories/marketing-and-conversion-social-trust-product-reviews. Apps come out with their rank in the category.

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords matched against app names/handles in the public Shopify apps sitemap (the on-site search page is disallowed by robots.txt, so we don't use it).

## `maxAppsPerCategory` (type: `integer`):

Top N apps by category rank (24 per page).

## `maxAppsPerSearchTerm` (type: `integer`):

Max apps returned for each search term.

## `includeReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Also scrape merchant reviews (newest first).

## `maxReviewsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

Max reviews per app.

## `reviewsNewerThan` (type: `string`):

Only reviews posted on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD) are saved and charged. Good for scheduled monitoring.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel requests. Keep low to be polite.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Usually not needed.
