# Facebook Followers & Following Scraper (`bornoo/facebook-followers-following-scraper`) Actor

Extract public Facebook Page data including page info, posts, likes, comments count, and engagement metrics. Input page URLs, set result limits, and use built-in proxy support for reliable scraping. Exports clean structured data as JSON, CSV, or Excel via Apify Dataset.

## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Facebook Public Page Scraper

Extract publicly available metadata (title, description, image) from
Facebook Page URLs. Built on the Apify Python "empty starter" template.

### ⚠️ Important scope note

This actor **only scrapes publicly exposed Open Graph metadata** from
Facebook Page URLs (the same data a link preview would show). It does
**not**:

- Scrape followers or following lists
- Log in to Facebook or use any account credentials
- Bypass authentication, JavaScript-rendering walls, or rate limits
- Access private/friends-only content

Facebook's Terms of Service prohibit automated scraping of user data
(including followers/following), and that data is not accessible without
an authenticated session. Building a scraper to bypass those protections
is out of scope for this project.

**If you need followers/following-style data for legitimate purposes**
(e.g. your own Page's audience insights), use:

- [Facebook Graph API](https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/) with a valid access token, or
- [Meta Business Suite / Page Insights](https://business.facebook.com/) directly

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `pageUrls` | array of strings | Facebook Page URLs to scrape |
| `maxPosts` | integer | Reserved for future post-scraping support (currently unused — see limitations) |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Apify Proxy config (recommended to reduce blocking) |

Example input:

```json
{
  "pageUrls": ["https://www.facebook.com/nasa"],
  "maxPosts": 10,
  "proxyConfiguration": { "useApifyProxy": true }
}
```

### Output

Each Page produces one dataset item:

```json
{
  "pageUrl": "https://www.facebook.com/nasa",
  "status": 200,
  "title": "NASA",
  "description": "official page description...",
  "image": "https://...jpg",
  "note": "Only public Open Graph metadata was extracted."
}
```

View results in the **Dataset** tab after a run, exportable as JSON, CSV,
or Excel.

### Limitations

- Facebook renders most page/post content client-side via JavaScript and
  gates it behind login — a plain HTTP request (as this actor uses) only
  reliably retrieves Open Graph meta tags, not full timeline/post content.
- For richer, reliable, ToS-compliant data, use the official Graph API.

### Files

- `src/main.py` — actor logic
- `.actor/actor.json` — actor metadata
- `.actor/input_schema.json` — input UI schema
- `requirements.txt` — Python dependencies

# Actor input Schema

## `pageUrls` (type: `array`):

List of public Facebook Page URLs to scrape (e.g. https://www.facebook.com/nasa)

## `maxPosts` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of recent public posts to extract per page

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Recommended: use Apify Proxy to reduce blocking

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "pageUrls": [
    "https://www.facebook.com/nasa"
  ],
  "maxPosts": 10,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "pageUrls": [
        "https://www.facebook.com/nasa"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("bornoo/facebook-followers-following-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
