## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Indie Hackers Posts Scraper

Collect public posts shown in the Indie Hackers homepage feed. The actor renders the site in a browser, reads any public JSON data loaded by the page, then falls back to the rendered post cards. It returns the title and canonical URL, plus the author, upvote count, comment count, URL slug, section, and post ID when those values are present. It does not return discussion comments or post-body text because those are not present in the homepage cards.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `maxResults` | integer | `50` | Maximum number of records to save. The number returned can be lower when fewer posts are visible in the feed. |
| `keywordFilter` | string | empty | Keep posts whose URL contains this text. Matching is case-insensitive. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Apify RESIDENTIAL | Optional Apify proxy settings. Omit the field or set `useApifyProxy` to `false` to use a direct connection. |

Example input:

```json
{
  "maxResults": 10,
  "keywordFilter": "saas",
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": ["RESIDENTIAL"]
  }
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "title": "I launched my first Mac app today: a text expander with plain text snippets",
  "url": "https://www.indiehackers.com/post/i-launched-my-first-mac-app-today-a-text-expander-with-plain-text-snippets-7ee42de7dd",
  "postId": "7ee42de7dd",
  "slug": "i-launched-my-first-mac-app-today-a-text-expander-with-plain-text-snippets",
  "author": "jeyk333",
  "upvotes": 2,
  "comments": 17
}
```

`section` is included on posts whose URL contains a section path. Fields absent from a post are omitted rather than emitted as empty strings. Results are written one post per dataset item and can be exported as JSON, CSV, or Excel.

### Pricing

The reference Indie Hackers actor lists a price of **$0.011 per result**. The platform charges for items written to the dataset; this actor does not issue separate `Actor.charge` calls. Confirm the effective rate on this actor's Store page before running a paid collection.

### Notes

The actor reads public homepage content and needs no Indie Hackers login. A keyword filter applies to the post URL. The homepage feed may expose fewer records than `maxResults`, and the actor returns only posts it can parse from the rendered page or its public JSON responses. Site markup and available posts can change over time.

# Actor input Schema

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of post records to return from the rendered feed.

## `keywordFilter` (type: `string`):

Optionally keep posts whose URL contains this text. Leave blank to include all visible posts.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional Apify proxy settings. The actor uses no proxy when this field is omitted or useApifyProxy is false.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "maxResults": 50,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ]
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Dataset with post records.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "maxResults": 50,
    "keywordFilter": ""
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("bovi/indiehackers-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
