## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## NewHomeSource Scraper: New-Home Markets, Builders and States

This Actor reads the public home page of [NewHomeSource.com](https://www.newhomesource.com/) in a real
browser (Camoufox) and returns a clean directory of what the site lists there: new-home market areas, home
builders and state hubs. No login is required. The site sits behind bot protection, so the page is rendered
through the Apify proxy you choose in the input.

### What you get

Every dataset item has the same flat shape:

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `recordType` | `market`, `builder` or `state` |
| `name` | Market area, builder or state name |
| `slug` | URL slug of the record on NewHomeSource |
| `url` | NewHomeSource page of the record (communities for a market, builder profile or reviews, state hub) |
| `state` | Two-letter state code (market records) |
| `builderId` | NewHomeSource builder ID (builder records) |
| `logoUrl` | Builder logo image (builder records, when the site shows one) |

Fields that the home page does not provide (prices, beds, baths, square footage, floor plans, community
details) are not part of this Actor's output and are never filled with placeholders.

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `recordType` | `all` | `all`, `market`, `builder` or `state` |
| `state` | empty | Optional two-letter code such as `TX`; returns only the market areas of that state |
| `maxResults` | `50` | Hard limit of records returned |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Apify RESIDENTIAL | Optional. Set `useApifyProxy` to false to run without a proxy |

Example input:

```json
{
  "recordType": "market",
  "state": "TX",
  "maxResults": 20,
  "proxyConfiguration": { "useApifyProxy": true, "apifyProxyGroups": ["RESIDENTIAL"] }
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "market",
  "name": "Birmingham",
  "slug": "birmingham-area",
  "url": "https://www.newhomesource.com/communities/al/birmingham-area",
  "state": "AL",
  "builderId": null,
  "logoUrl": null
}
```

### Price

Pay per result: the platform charges for each item pushed to the dataset, in the range of about
$0.001 to $0.002 per result depending on your Apify plan. The Actor itself adds no other charges.

### Notes

- One run renders one page, so a run returns about 100 records at most.
- The Actor respects `maxResults` and stops as soon as the limit is reached.

# Actor input Schema

## `recordType` (type: `string`):

Which records to return: new-home market areas, builders, state hubs, or all of them.

## `state` (type: `string`):

Optional two-letter US state code, e.g. TX. When set, only market areas of this state are returned.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of records to return.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify proxy settings. NewHomeSource sits behind bot protection, so a residential proxy is recommended. Turn the proxy off to run without one.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "recordType": "all",
  "maxResults": 50,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ]
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Dataset with the scraped records.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("bovi/newhomesource-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
