## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Monitor — iOS & Android Apps, Reviews, Charts

**One actor for both mobile app stores.** Scrape Apple App Store **and** Google Play in a single run: app metadata, newest reviews, top charts, cross-store search, and a `watch` snapshot mode built for scheduled rating/version monitoring.

Most store scrapers cover one platform. ASO teams, app marketers, and competitor researchers track apps on **both** — this actor was built for exactly that.

| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| `app` | Full app detail — rating, rating count, installs, version, update date, release notes, developer, price, content rating |
| `reviews` | Newest reviews from either or both stores — rating, text, author, date, developer reply (Play) |
| `top` | Top charts — iOS top free/paid/grossing by genre; Play category leaders with full app details |
| `search` | One query → ranked results from both stores side by side |
| `watch` | Snapshot rows (rating, rating count, version, updated date) per app per store — diff-friendly for scheduled runs |

**No API key. No login. Pay only per row returned.**

### Why monitor both stores?

- **ASO tracking** — `watch` on a schedule → your app's rating, version, and review velocity on iOS + Android in one dataset
- **Competitor intel** — track competitor rating drops, version releases, and release notes the day they ship
- **Review mining** — `reviews` pulls newest reviews across both platforms — find feature requests, complaints, and churn signals in one feed
- **Market research** — `top` + `search` map a category's leaders and the long tail around a keyword
- **Launch tracking** — new releases surface in `search`/`top` before any analyst report

### How it works

The actor uses Apple's public iTunes Search/Lookup + RSS feeds (reviews, charts) and Google Play's public store pages. Everything is keyless — the same data a browser sees.

### Example inputs

**Full detail on one app across both stores**

```json
{
  "mode": "app",
  "iosIds": ["389801252"],
  "androidIds": ["com.instagram.android"]
}
```

**Newest reviews — iOS + Android together**

```json
{
  "mode": "reviews",
  "iosIds": ["389801252"],
  "androidIds": ["com.instagram.android"],
  "maxReviews": 100
}
```

**Top free iOS apps in Health & Fitness + Play top apps**

```json
{
  "mode": "top",
  "chart": "topfreeapplications",
  "genre": "6013",
  "category": "HEALTH_AND_FITNESS",
  "maxResults": 50
}
```

**Cross-store keyword search**

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "calorie counter",
  "maxResults": 25
}
```

**Scheduled competitor watch (the money mode)**

```json
{
  "mode": "watch",
  "iosIds": ["284882215", "389801252", "447188370"],
  "androidIds": ["com.facebook.katana", "com.instagram.android", "com.zhiliaoapp.musically"]
}
```

Schedule this daily and diff `rating`, `ratingCount`, `version`, and `updatedAt` across runs — instant "competitor shipped an update" / "rating dropped 0.3★" alerts.

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "app",
  "store": "googleplay",
}
```

```json
}
```

### Pricing

**$0.001 per result** — a 100-app watch run costs ~$0.10 per execution. Reviews mode: 50 reviews per app ≈ $0.05. No minimums, no subscriptions — pay only for rows returned.

Compare: dedicated app-analytics platforms (AppTweak, Sensor Tower, Appfigures) start at **$80–400/month**. This actor gives you the same underlying store data, schedulable and exportable, at usage pricing.

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?** No. iOS data comes from Apple's public iTunes APIs and RSS feeds; Android data comes from Google Play's public store pages.

**Which app IDs do I use?** iOS accepts either numeric iTunes IDs (`284882215`) or bundle IDs (`com.facebook.Facebook`). Android uses Play package names (`com.whatsapp`) — the part after `id=` in the store URL.

**How far back do reviews go?** iOS returns the ~500 most recent reviews (10 pages × 50, `mostRecent` sort). Google Play returns the newest visible reviews (default 50 per app, up to 200).

**What about Play top charts?** `top` mode on `googleplay` uses Play's public category pages, enriched with full app details per entry.

**Can I monitor a competitor's app?** Yes — that's what `watch` is for. Schedule the actor (e.g. daily), and each run emits one snapshot row per app per store with rating, rating count, version, and update date.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?** The actor only accesses publicly available data — the same listings a browser sees. Scraping public data for research, monitoring, and analysis is common practice, but platform Terms of Service and the rules in your jurisdiction still apply to how you use it. Consult legal counsel for your specific case.
