## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Copart Auction Monitor — Salvage Lot Alerts for Dealers & Exporters

Monitor Copart's public auction inventory — **new lots, primary/secondary damage, odometer, current bids, buy-it-now prices, ACV estimates, yard locations, auction dates** — plus a **watch mode built for scheduled pre-auction alerts**. No login, no API key.

Salvage dealers live on speed — the good inventory moves days before the hammer falls. Poll your keywords on a schedule and see new lots the moment they hit the system.

### What you can do

| Mode | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| `search` | Lots by keyword **or a pasted Copart search URL** — damage, miles, bid, buy-it-now, ACV, yard, sale status | Inventory scans, arbitrage research |
| `watch` | Sweeps a **list of queries/URLs** each run, emitting `lot_snapshot` rows | Scheduled new-lot alerts per make/model/yard |

### Example inputs

```json
{ "mode": "search", "query": "tesla model 3", "maxResults": 100 }
```

```json
{ "mode": "search", "searchUrl": "https://www.copart.com/lotSearchResults?searchCriteria=%7B%22query%22%3A%5B%22bmw%22%5D%2C%22filter%22%3A%7B%22YEAR%22%3A%5B%22%23Year%3A2022%3A2024%22%5D%7D%7D" }
```

```json
{ "mode": "watch", "queries": ["bmw m4", "porsche 911", "harley davidson"] }
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "lot_snapshot",
  "lotNumber": "45324105",
  "title": "2022 TESLA MODEL 3",
  "year": 2022,
  "make": "TESLA",
  "model": "MODEL 3",
  "odometer": 21487,
  "odometerStatus": "ACTUAL",
  "primaryDamage": "REAR END",
  "secondaryDamage": "MINOR DENT/SCRATCHES",
  "currentBid": 4600,
  "buyTodayBid": 0,
  "estRetailValue": 33500,
  "saleStatus": "PURE_SALE",
  "auctionDate": "2026-10-19T14:00:00+00:00",
  "yard": "FL - CLEWISTON",
  "state": "FL",
  "url": "https://www.copart.com/lot/45324105",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-17T22:10:00Z"
}
```

### Pricing

Flat pay-per-event: **$0.001 per lot row** — 10 keyword watches polled hourly ≈ 36k rows/mo ≈ **$36/mo** for always-on coverage. One flipped lot pays for years.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Copart membership?** No — this uses the public search API. Rows include masked VINs and bid state visible to anonymous visitors; bidding itself still requires a Copart account.

**Can I use my Copart filters?** Yes — build your filter on copart.com (year, damage, fuel, yard, auction type, "buy it now"), copy the `lotSearchResults` URL, and paste it in `searchUrl`. Filters carry over verbatim.

**How do I catch *new* lots?** Rows carry `lotNumber` — keep seen numbers in your pipeline and alert on first-seen. `watch` + Apify Schedules + webhook = a real alert loop.

**What do the damage codes mean?** `primaryDamage`/`secondaryDamage` come straight from Copart ("REAR END", "FRONT END", "WATER/FLOOD", "MECHANICAL", "BURN"...). `saleStatus` includes `MINIMUM_BID`/`PURE_SALE`/`ON_APPROVAL`/`SOLD`.

**Is it legal?** We collect only publicly accessible inventory data. Respect Copart's Terms of Service and applicable rules in your jurisdiction.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

'search' lots by keyword or a pasted Copart search URL, or 'watch' sweeps a list of queries/URLs for scheduled new-lot alerts.

## `query` (type: `string`):

Lot search keyword — make, model, or free text, e.g. 'tesla model 3', 'bmw m4', 'ford f-150'.

## `searchUrl` (type: `string`):

Paste a copart.com/lotSearchResults URL — filters (year, damage type, yard, sale date, auction type) carry over exactly.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Copart sort token, e.g. 'auction_date_type desc' (default), 'lot_high_bid desc'.

## `filters` (type: `object`):

Raw Copart filter JSON for power users — e.g. {"MISC":\["#Make:BMW"],"YEAR":\["#Year:2022:2024"]}. Easier: paste a searchUrl instead.

## `queries` (type: `array`):

List of keywords or search URLs to sweep each run — e.g. \["bmw m4", "tesla model 3", "https://www.copart.com/lotSearchResults?searchCriteria=..."].

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum lots per query (~50 per page).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional Apify proxy — recommended for frequent schedules.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "tesla",
  "searchUrl": "",
  "sort": "",
  "queries": [
    "bmw m4",
    {
      "query": "porsche 911"
    },
    "tesla model s"
  ],
  "maxResults": 50
}
