## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Craigslist Monitor — Search, Detail & New-Listing Alerts

Scrape Craigslist listings from **any city, any category** — cars, housing, jobs, for-sale, free stuff, gigs, services — sorted newest-first, plus full posting detail and a **watch mode built for scheduled alerts**. No account, no login, no API key.

### What you can do

| Mode | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| `search` | Listings in one city/category with optional keyword + price filters — title, price, neighborhood, URL | Lead research, market scans |
| `detail` | Full posting page — body text, posted date, attributes (beds, sqft, condition…), images, address | Record enrichment |
| `watch` | Sweeps a **list of cities × keywords** each run, emitting `posting` rows sorted newest-first | Scheduled new-listing alerts |

`watch` is the money feature: schedule it every 15–60 min and diff rows client-side by `url` to fire alerts the moment a new matching listing posts — flippers, used-car dealers, recruiters and landlords live on this loop.

### Category cheat-sheet

`sss` for-sale · `cta` cars+trucks · `apa` apartments/housing · `jjj` jobs · `ggg` gigs · `bbb` services · `zip` free stuff · `mcy` motorcycles · `bpa` boats · `fua` furniture · `egr` electronics · `pet` pets

City = the Craigslist subdomain: `austin`, `dallas`, `newyork`, `losangeles`, `sfbay`, `chicago`, `seattle`, `denver`, `miami`, `atlanta`, `portland`, `phoenix`…

### Example inputs

```json
{ "mode": "search", "city": "austin", "category": "cta", "query": "tacoma", "maxPrice": 30000 }
```

```json
{ "mode": "watch", "cities": ["austin", "dallas", "houston"], "category": "sss", "queries": ["iphone", "ps5", "peloton"] }
```

```json
{ "mode": "watch", "cities": ["newyork", "losangeles", "chicago"], "category": "zip" }
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "posting",
  "title": "2019 Toyota Tacoma 4WD TRD Off-Road pickup Cement Gray",
  "price": 34500,
  "priceLabel": "$34,500",
  "neighborhood": "Round Rock",
  "url": "https://www.craigslist.org/view/d/austin-2019-toyota-tacoma-4wd-trd/pmtdvSjXUn67YcMhyug",
  "city": "austin",
  "category": "cta",
  "query": "tacoma",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-14T21:10:03Z"
}
```

Detail rows add `postedAt`, `body`, `address`, `attributes` (beds, sqft, condition, etc.) and `images`.

### Pricing

Flat pay-per-event: **$0.001 per row** — a 3-city × 5-keyword watch every 30 min ≈ 100k rows/mo ≈ **$100/mo for always-on coverage**; light use costs pennies. No subscription.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Craigslist account?** No. Everything comes from public search and posting pages.

**How many results per search?** Up to ~300–500 per city/category depending on section; `maxResults` caps output (default 120).

**How do I get only *new* listings?** Results come sorted newest-first. In `watch` mode, store seen `url`s in your pipeline and alert on first-seen — or use Apify's dataset dedupe.

**Does it get blocked?** Craigslist is lenient with reasonable request rates. For heavy multi-city schedules, enable an Apify proxy.

**Is it legal?** We collect only publicly accessible classified pages. Respect Craigslist's Terms of Service and applicable data-protection rules in your jurisdiction.
