## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Dailymotion Scraper & Channel Monitor

**Scrape Dailymotion via the official public API** — no key, no login, no proxies needed. Video search, channel profiles, full video metadata, and new-upload monitoring in one actor.

Dailymotion is the world's second-largest video platform — 300M+ users, strong in news/media (Le Parisien, BeIN Sports, Vice). Existing store actors only download single videos; this one does structured data extraction and monitoring.

### What it does

| Mode | Output |
|---|---|
| `search` | Videos by keyword — sort by recent/visited/trending/rated, filter by language, country, min views, date |
| `user` | Channel profiles (videos, followers, views totals) + latest uploads |
| `video` | Full metadata for specific videos — duration, views, likes, comments, tags, thumbnails |
| `watch` | New-upload monitoring across keywords and/or channels, with `sinceTimestamp` resumption |

### Input examples

Keyword search, most-viewed first:

```json
{ "mode": "search", "query": "crypto", "sort": "visited", "minViews": 1000, "maxResults": 100 }
```

Channel profiles + latest uploads:

```json
{ "mode": "user", "usernames": ["leparisien", "espn"], "includeVideos": true }
```

Bulk video metadata:

```json
{ "mode": "video", "videoIds": ["x2hqb43", "dailymotion.com/video/x1z3x87"] }
```

Monitor channels + keywords (schedule hourly via Apify Schedules):

```json
{
  "mode": "watch",
  "queries": ["breaking news"],
  "usernames": ["leparisien"],
  "sinceTimestamp": 1758980000
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "search_result",
  "videoId": "x2hqb43",
  "title": "Bitcoin, Bitcoins, Bitcoin news",
  "url": "https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2hqb43",
  "thumbnailUrl": "https://s2.dmcdn.net/v/.../x720",
  "durationSeconds": 156,
  "createdTime": 1425635611,
  "viewsTotal": 6,
  "likesTotal": 0,
  "commentsTotal": 0,
  "language": "en",
  "tags": ["bitcoin"],
  "ownerName": "Bobmorrisonmarket"
}
```

### Pricing

**$1 per 1,000 results** (`$0.001` per dataset row).

### Notes & limitations

- Official Dailymotion REST API — free and keyless. `views_total` reports 0 on very fresh uploads (platform lag).
- Channel search is via username; discover usernames from video `ownerId`/`ownerName` fields.

### FAQ

**Does Dailymotion Scraper need a login or API key?** No — every row comes from public endpoints. Provide a proxy only if your network is heavily rate-limited.

**How do I monitor on a schedule?** Attach the actor to an Apify Schedule (daily/weekly) and use the watch/monitor mode if present — each run emits a fresh, diff-able dataset.

**What does each row contain?** See the output fields table above; every row carries a `scrapedAt` timestamp so datasets can be deduped across runs.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?** The actor only accesses publicly available data — the same pages/APIs a browser sees. Scraping public data for research, monitoring, and analysis is common practice, but platform Terms of Service and the rules in your jurisdiction still apply to how you use it. Consult legal counsel for your specific case.
