## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify Competitor Monitor — Store Catalogs, Prices & New-Product Alerts

Extract any Shopify store's **full product catalog** — titles, prices, compare-at prices (automatic **sale detection**), variants, stock availability, publish dates, collections — then **watch competitor stores on a schedule** for new-product drops and price changes. No API key, no login.

### What you can do

| Mode | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| `products` | Full catalog of a store — title, vendor, type, tags, price range, `onSale` flag, in-stock variant count, publish/update dates | Competitor teardown, catalog dumps |
| `collections` | Every collection with product counts | Store structure intel |
| `product` | Single product — every variant's price/SKU/compare-at/availability | Deep-dives |
| `watch` | `product_snapshot` rows for a **list of stores**, sorted newest-first | Scheduled competitor alerts |

`watch` is the money feature: schedule it daily/hourly on competitor stores and diff rows by `productId` — get alerted the moment a rival **launches a product** (`publishedAt`), **drops a price**, or **runs a sale** (`onSale`/`compareAtMax`). This is the dropshipper winning-product radar and DTC competitive-intel loop in one actor.

### Example inputs

```json
{ "mode": "watch", "stores": ["allbirds.com", "bombas.com", "deadlegacy.co"], "maxProducts": 500 }
```

```json
{ "mode": "products", "stores": ["fanjoy.co"], "maxProducts": 1000 }
```

```json
{ "mode": "product", "products": ["allbirds.com|womens-allbirds-flip-flop-dusty-pink"] }
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "product_snapshot",
  "productId": 7443560218673,
  "title": "Women's Allbirds Flip Flop - Dusty Pink",
  "vendor": "Allbirds",
  "productType": "Shoes",
  "priceMin": 25.0,
  "priceMax": 25.0,
  "compareAtMax": 50.0,
  "onSale": true,
  "variantsCount": 7,
  "inStockVariants": 1,
  "publishedAt": "2025-06-12T10:14:00-07:00",
  "url": "https://allbirds.com/products/womens-allbirds-flip-flop-dusty-pink",
  "store": "allbirds.com",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-15T10:40:12Z"
}
```

### Pricing

Flat pay-per-event: **$0.001 per row** — watching 10 competitor stores (500 products each) daily ≈ 150k rows/mo ≈ **$150/mo for total competitive coverage**. Light catalog dumps cost cents.

### FAQ

**How does this work without an API key?** Every Shopify store exposes a public catalog feed at `/products.json` — the same one their themes and apps use. We read it directly.

**Does it work on every Shopify store?** Most. Some very large stores Cloudflare-block the endpoint; if a store returns an error row, retry with an Apify proxy enabled.

**How do I detect new products?** `publishedAt` — in `watch` mode rows arrive newest-first; keep seen `productId`s and alert on first-seen.

**Can it see inventory counts?** Variant-level `available` + `inventory_quantity` when the store publishes it; some stores hide exact stock.

**Is it legal?** We read publicly accessible catalog endpoints. Respect each store's Terms of Service.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

'products' dumps a store's catalog, 'collections' lists collections, 'product' details one product, 'watch' snapshots multiple stores for scheduled new-product/price alerts.

## `stores` (type: `array`):

Shopify store domains — e.g. 'allbirds.com', 'brand.myshopify.com'. One or many.

## `products` (type: `array`):

'store.com|product-handle', a full product URL, or a bare handle (demo store used). Empty = demo on a live product.

## `maxProducts` (type: `integer`):

Cap catalog rows per store (250 per page).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional — some large stores Cloudflare-block /products.json; a proxy usually passes.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "mode": "products",
  "stores": [
    "allbirds.com"
  ],
  "products": [],
  "maxProducts": 250
}
