## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Upwork Job Monitor — New-Listing Alerts for Freelancers & Agencies

Track Upwork job postings by keyword — **budget, hourly rate range, skills, client payment-verification, publish timestamp** — sorted newest-first, plus a **watch mode built for scheduled first-to-bid alerts**. No login, no API key.

On Upwork, the first credible proposals win disproportionate share — buyers shortlist within hours. This actor lets you poll your keywords on a schedule and see new posts the moment they land.

### What you can do

| Mode | What it does | Best for |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------- |
| `search` | Job listings for a keyword — title, full description, budget/hourly range, experience level, skills, client country & payment status, posted time | Lead research, market scans |
| `watch`  | Sweeps a **list of keywords** each run, emitting `job_snapshot` rows newest-first                                                                 | Scheduled new-job alerts    |

### Pricing

Flat pay-per-event: **$0.001 per job row** — 10 keywords polled hourly ≈ 72k rows/mo ≈ **$72/mo** for always-on first-to-bid coverage. A single won contract pays for years.

### FAQ

**Do I need an Upwork account?** No — this uses the public visitor search surface. Job rows include full description, budget and skills.

**How fresh is the data?** Results come sorted by publish time (`sort=recency`), ~10 jobs per page, paginated to `maxResults`.

**How do I get only *new* jobs?** Rows carry `jobId` + `publishedAt` — keep seen IDs in your pipeline and alert on first-seen. `watch` + Apify Schedules + a webhook gives you a real alert loop.

**Why did a job show no client country?** Some clients hide location/spend from anonymous viewers — those fields arrive null; `clientPaymentVerified` is usually still visible.

**Why is a residential proxy required?** Upwork's CDN blocks datacenter IPs — this actor defaults to Apify Residential proxy (enabled in the input, billed separately by Apify at residential bandwidth rates). A typical search run uses well under 2 MB, so proxy cost is cents per run.

**Is it legal?** We collect only publicly accessible job-search pages. Respect Upwork's Terms of Service and applicable data-protection rules in your jurisdiction.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

'search' jobs by keyword (newest first), or 'watch' sweeps a list of keywords for scheduled new-job alerts.

## `query` (type: `string`):

Job search keyword — e.g. 'web scraping', 'n8n', 'react native', 'powerpoint'. Same syntax as Upwork's own search box.

## `queries` (type: `array`):

List of keywords to sweep each run (watch mode only) — your skill set, niches, or client verticals.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum jobs per keyword (~10 per search page).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy — Upwork blocks datacenter IPs, so residential is required and enabled by default.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "python",
  "queries": [
    "data scraping",
    "automation"
  ],
  "maxResults": 50,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ]
  }
}
