## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Walmart Product Monitor — Search, Prices, Reviews & Stock

**Keyless Walmart scraper** covering the whole product surface in one actor: search results, full product details, customer reviews, and a `watch` mode built for scheduled price-drop and stock monitoring.

E-com sellers, arbitrage resellers, and price-intelligence teams run this data on schedules — this actor was built to be the thing they schedule.

| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| `search` | Product search — name, price, **was-price**, rating, review count, seller, stock status, sponsored flag |
| `product` | Full product detail by item ID or URL — price, brand, category, fulfillment options, description |
| `reviews` | Newest customer reviews per product — rating, text, date, verified purchase + full star-count histogram |
| `watch` | Snapshot rows with `priceDropped` flag — price, was-price, rating, review count, stock per product |

**No API key. No login. Pay only per row returned.**

### Why monitor Walmart?

- **Price-drop alerts** — `watch` on a schedule → `wasPrice`/`price` diff catches competitor markdowns same-day
- **Competitor tracking** — monitor rival sellers' prices, ratings, and stock on your product lines
- **Review velocity** — `numberOfReviews` growth between snapshots = sales-velocity proxy
- **Catalog research** — `search` maps a keyword's competitive landscape: prices, sellers, ratings, stock
- **Stock watching** — `stockStatus` flips signal restocks on constrained SKUs
- **Arbitrage sourcing** — find underpriced inventory: `search` + `maxPrice` + `sort: price_low`

### How it works

The actor reads Walmart.com's public product pages — the same data the store shows a browser, extracted from embedded structured data. No authentication required.

### Example inputs

**Keyword search with filters**

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "air fryer",
  "maxResults": 100,
  "sort": "price_low",
  "maxPrice": 80
}
```

**Product details (IDs or URLs)**

```json
{
  "mode": "product",
  "itemIds": ["18611919209", "https://www.walmart.com/ip/Some-Product/547940186"]
}
```

**Review mining**

```json
{
  "mode": "reviews",
  "itemIds": ["18611919209"],
  "maxReviews": 10
}
```

**Daily price/stock watch (the money mode)**

```json
{
  "mode": "watch",
  "itemIds": ["18611919209", "547940186", "149503642"]
}
```

Schedule this hourly or daily — each run emits one `product_snapshot` row per item with `price`, `wasPrice`, `priceDropped`, `rating`, `reviewCount`, `stockStatus`. Diff across runs for alerts.

### Example output

```json
{
  "recordType": "product_snapshot",
  "itemId": "18611919209",
  "name": "HP 14 inch HD Windows Laptop Intel Processor N150 4GB",
  "price": 199.0,
  "wasPrice": 259.0,
  "priceDropped": true,
  "rating": 4.1,
  "reviewCount": 1534,
  "seller": "Walmart.com",
  "stockStatus": "IN_STOCK",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-14T17:05:00+00:00"
}
```

```json
{
  "recordType": "review",
  "itemId": "18611919209",
  "rating": 5,
  "content": "I love the color, it's fast enough for schoolwork...",
  "date": "9/30/2026",
  "verifiedPurchase": true,
  "totalReviewCount": 1534,
  "productRating": 4.1,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-14T17:06:00+00:00"
}
```

### Pricing

**$0.001 per result** — a 100-SKU daily watch run costs ~$0.10/day (~$3/month). Search: 100 products ≈ $0.10. Compare: dedicated retail-intelligence platforms start at $100+/month.

### Honest limits

- **Reviews** returns the ~10 reviews embedded per product page (full review pagination isn't offered rather than promised). The star-count histogram + total count cover aggregate sentiment.
- Walmart rate-limits datacenter IPs — for frequent/large schedules, enable **Proxy configuration** (residential recommended).
- `search` caps at one page of embedded results per query (~60-80 items).

### FAQ

**Do I need a Walmart API key?** No — everything comes from Walmart's public web pages. No auth, no developer account.

**What IDs work?** Numeric item IDs (`18611919209`) or any Walmart product URL containing `/ip/.../{id}` — the actor extracts the ID automatically.

**What does `priceDropped` mean?** `watch` rows set `priceDropped: true` when the current `price` is below the listed `wasPrice` — instant markdown detection.

**Is it legal to scrape this data?** The actor only accesses publicly available product pages — the same listings a browser sees. Scraping public data for research, monitoring, and analysis is common practice, but platform Terms of Service and the rules in your jurisdiction still apply to how you use it. Consult legal counsel for your specific case.
