## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Google Maps Rank Grid Tracker

Where does a business show up in Google Maps when someone nearby searches for what it sells? This actor checks a square grid of map points around the business (3x3, 5x5 or 7x7) and returns its rank at each point, the top 3 places there, and a summary per keyword. Built for local SEO reports that you run every week.

### Who uses it, and for what

- **Local SEO agencies:** a weekly grid for each client, to show where the business wins and loses on the map and whether the work is paying off.
- **Multi-location businesses:** compare how each branch ranks in its own area for the same search.
- **Sales to local businesses:** run one 3x3 grid before a call to show a prospect where competitors beat them.
- **Reporting tools and AI agents:** flat rows per grid point, ready to draw a heat map.

### Example inputs

A pizza place in New York, two keywords, 3x3 grid at 1 km (18 points, about $0.14):

```json
{
  "keywords": ["pizza", "pizza delivery"],
  "website": "joespizzanyc.com",
  "latitude": "40.7305",
  "longitude": "-73.9891",
  "gridSize": "3",
  "spacingKm": 1
}
```

A business matched by its exact Google Maps name (put in your own), 5x5 grid at 2 km (25 points, $0.20):

```json
{
  "keywords": ["dentist"],
  "businessName": "Smile Dental Studio",
  "latitude": "51.5072",
  "longitude": "-0.1276",
  "gridSize": "5",
  "spacingKm": 2
}
```

### Input

- **Keywords**: up to 5, for example `pizza`.
- **The business**: its website, Google place id, cid or exact Maps name.
- **Centre**: latitude and longitude, usually the business itself.
- **Grid size** and **spacing** in km, and the map **zoom**.

### Output

One row per grid point and keyword:

```json
{"keyword": "pizza", "grid_row": 1, "grid_col": 1, "latitude": 40.7305, "longitude": -73.9891,
 "rank": 2, "in_top_3": true, "matched_title": "Joe's Pizza",
 "top_3": [{"rank": 1, "title": "...", "domain": "..."}], "places_seen": 20, "charged": true}
```

A free summary row per keyword gives points scanned, points in the top 3, points where the business is not in the first 20, and its average rank where found.

### Price

$0.008 per grid point scanned. A 5x5 grid for one keyword is 25 points, $0.20. A point where the data provider fails, or Maps shows no places, is free. Summary rows are free.

### Limits

- Ranks are read from the first 20 places Google Maps shows at each point.
- The business is matched by place id, cid, website domain or exact name, in that order.

Data from the DataForSEO SERP API (Google Maps).
