## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Company Website to AI Company Profile

Turn a plain list of company websites into lead-ready company profiles. For each site you get the company name, what they do, industry, services, emails, phone numbers, social links, address, and founding year, plus an optional AI-written profile.

### What you get per company

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| companyName | Acme Pest Control |
| description | Family-owned pest control for homes and businesses in the Chicago area |
| industryGuess | Facilities & Cleaning |
| services | Termite Control, Commercial Pest Control, Wildlife Removal |
| emails | service@acmepest.example |
| phones | (312) 555-0142 |
| socials | linkedin, facebook, instagram links |
| address | 100 Main St, Chicago, IL 60601 |
| foundedYear | 1984 |
| pagesVisited | the pages the profile was built from |
| ai (optional) | summary, industry, services, B2B/B2C, locations, size estimate, notable facts |

### How it works

1. Reads each company's homepage, then up to a few of its own contact, about, services, team, and location pages.
2. Pulls contact details and structured company data the site publishes about itself.
3. With your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, writes a short AI profile from that text. Without a key, you still get every non-AI field.

### Responsible by design

- Reads only the company's **own public website**. No social networks, no logins.
- **Respects robots.txt** and identifies itself honestly. Sites that refuse automated visitors are listed as `blocked_by_site` and are **not charged**.
- A short pause between pages on the same site keeps the load light.

### Pricing

You pay per successfully profiled company. Sites that are unreachable or blocked are free. AI summaries use your own API key, billed by your AI provider (typically a fraction of a cent per company with a small model).

### Use cases

- Enrich a lead list from a trade show, directory, or CRM export
- Qualify prospects by industry and services before outreach
- Build territory lists for field sales
- Keep CRM company records current

### Input

```json
{
  "websites": ["basecamp.com", "orkin.com"],
  "maxPagesPerSite": 5,
  "openaiApiKey": "optional"
}
```

### Notes

- Results reflect what each company publishes on its own site; some sites list no email or phone.
- Use the data in line with applicable laws (for example CAN-SPAM and GDPR) when contacting anyone.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Domains or URLs, one per line (e.g. acme.com). Each site is profiled from its homepage plus up to a few contact, about, services, team, and location pages.

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Homepage plus the most useful subpages. 5 is usually enough.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many companies to profile at the same time. Each site still gets its pages one at a time.

## `delayBetweenPagesSecs` (type: `number`):

Keeps the load on each company's server light.

## `openaiApiKey` (type: `string`):

Add your own key to get an AI profile per company: summary, industry, services, customer type, locations, size estimate. Billed by OpenAI to you.

## `anthropicApiKey` (type: `string`):

Alternative to the OpenAI key.

## `aiModel` (type: `string`):

Defaults to a small, inexpensive model from the provider you chose.

## Actor input object example

  "maxConcurrency": 10,
  "delayBetweenPagesSecs": 0.5
}
```
## `profiles` (type: `string`):
All profiles as a table; switch views to see every field.
You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.
## JavaScript example
```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "websites": [
        "basecamp.com",
        "orkin.com"
    ]
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("brightledger/company-website-profiler").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
