# Domain Availability Checker (RDAP) (`brioq/rdap-domain-availability-checker`) Actor

Check whether domains are available or registered using the official RDAP protocol. Bulk-check a list, or one name across many TLDs, and get registrar, dates and nameservers.

## Pricing

$3.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Availability Checker (RDAP)

Check whether domain names are **available or already registered**, in bulk, using **RDAP** — the official, machine-readable successor to WHOIS that domain registries publish for exactly this purpose. For registered domains you also get the registrar, creation and expiry dates, days until expiry, and nameservers.

### What it does

- Checks a list of full domains (`example.com`, `mybrand.io`, …).
- Or checks one or more base names across many TLDs at once (`acme` × `com, net, org, dev`).
- Finds the right registry server for each TLD from the IANA RDAP bootstrap registry, then asks that registry directly.
- Returns **exactly one result per domain** with an explicit `status`, so nothing silently disappears:
  - `available` — the registry has no record of the domain
  - `registered` — the domain exists; registrar, dates and nameservers are included
  - `unsupported_tld` — that TLD's registry does not publish an RDAP service yet
  - `invalid` — the input is not a valid domain name
  - `error` — the registry did not answer after retries (details in `error`)

### Input

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `domains` | Full domains to check. URLs are accepted and reduced to their domain (`https://www.example.com/page` → `example.com`). |
| `names` | Base names without a TLD. Each one is combined with every entry in `tlds`. |
| `tlds` | TLDs used with `names`, without the dot (default: `com`, `net`, `org`). |
| `maxConcurrency` | Parallel registry requests (default 5, max 20). Keep it modest; registries rate-limit. |

### Output example

```json
{
  "domain": "example.com",
  "tld": "com",
  "status": "registered",
  "available": false,
  "registrar": "RESERVED-Internet Assigned Numbers Authority",
  "createdAt": "1995-08-14T04:00:00Z",
  "expiresAt": "2027-08-13T04:00:00Z",
  "daysUntilExpiry": 292,
  "nameservers": ["elliott.ns.cloudflare.com", "hera.ns.cloudflare.com"],
  "rdapServer": "https://rdap.verisign.com/com/v1/",
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-24T09:30:00+00:00"
}
```

### Pricing

You pay per result: one result per domain checked, whatever its status. The price per result is shown on this page. You can cap spending for a run with the maximum charge setting; the Actor stops cleanly when the cap is reached.

### Privacy

The Actor reads only registry-level facts. Registrant, administrative, technical and abuse contacts are never written to the output.

### Limitations

- "Available" means the registry has no record. Premium, reserved or recently deleted names can still be unavailable to register; confirm with a registrar before buying.
- Some country-code TLDs do not offer RDAP yet; those return `unsupported_tld` instead of a guess.
- Registries apply their own rate limits. Very large batches finish faster with moderate concurrency than with the maximum.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names to check, one per line, e.g. example.com. URLs are accepted and reduced to their domain.

## `names` (type: `array`):

Base names without a TLD, e.g. acme. Each name is combined with every TLD below.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

TLDs to combine with every name above, without the dot, e.g. com, net, io.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel RDAP requests. Keep it modest to respect registry rate limits.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "example.com",
    "wikipedia.org",
    "brion-availability-check-7f3k2.com"
  ],
  "names": [],
  "tlds": [
    "com",
    "net",
    "org"
  ],
  "maxConcurrency": 5
}
```

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "example.com",
        "wikipedia.org",
        "brion-availability-check-7f3k2.com"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("brioq/rdap-domain-availability-checker").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
