## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Recall Check: CPSC, FDA & RappelConso (US + France)

**Is this product recalled?** One call searches the official recall notices of the **US CPSC** (consumer products), **openFDA** enforcement reports (food, drugs, medical devices) and France's **RappelConso** (DGCCRF / DGAL), and returns one normalised list: date, product, brand, reason, hazard, what the consumer should do, identifiers and the official link.

Two checks:

1. **Recall search** by product, brand or model (e.g. `stroller`, `peanut butter`, `Facom`), filtered by market (US, France or both) and period.
2. **Barcode check**: validates the EAN / UPC / GTIN check digit and returns **exact barcode matches** across the three sources.

Data is fetched **live** from the official public sources.

### Use cases

- A shopping agent checks a product before recommending or buying it.
- A marketplace screens new listings and resale items for recalled products.
- A customer-service agent answers "is my product affected?".
- A compliance or quality team monitors recalls on its brands.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `searches` | Products, brands or models to search. |
| `gtins` | Barcodes (8, 12, 13 or 14 digits). |
| `market` | `all` (default), `us` or `fr` for searches. |
| `days` | Look-back period in days (default 365). |
| `limit` | Max results per source (default 10). |
| `queries` | Advanced: `[{"endpoint": "recall_search", "params": {"query": "salmonella", "market": "us", "days": 90}}]` |
| `maxQueries` | Safety cap on checks per run (default 1000). |

Example:

```json
{
  "searches": ["stroller"],
  "gtins": ["3662424096594"],
  "market": "all"
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per check. Shortened example from a real check:

```json
{
  "endpoint": "gtin_recall",
  "input": {"gtin": "3662424096594"},
  "ok": true,
  "result": {
    "recalled": true,
    "count": 1,
    "results": [{
      "source": "RappelConso (FR)",
      "date": "2026-10-22",
      "title": "tournevis facom atp2x125vepb",
      "brand": "facom",
      "hazard": "choc électrique",
      "consumer_action": "ne plus utiliser le produit; rapporter le produit au point de vente",
      "url": "https://rappel.conso.gouv.fr/fiche-rappel/23911/interne"
    }],
    "sources_checked": ["RappelConso (FR)", "CPSC (US)", "openFDA (US)"],
    "note": "Exact barcode match. A recall often targets specific lots / dates: check 'title', 'identifiers' and the official notice."
  },
  "charged_event": "gtin-recall",
  "price_usd": 0.01
}
```

French notices keep their original wording (as published by RappelConso).

### Pricing

Pay per successful check, **$0.01** per search or barcode. Invalid barcodes, invalid input and source errors are **never charged**.

### Limits (honest)

- US and France only (EU Safety Gate, UK and Canada: next version).
- Keyword search is text matching: check model, lot and dates before stating that an item is affected.
- openFDA covers enforcement reports, not every safety alert.
