# CVE Exploit Risk Enricher (NVD + CISA KEV + EPSS) (`calculating_kitchen_h0b/cve-exploit-risk-enricher`) Actor

Enrich CVE IDs or keyword searches with NVD CVSS, CISA Known Exploited (KEV) status and FIRST EPSS exploit probability, plus a patch priority score. No API key needed.

## Pricing

$5.00 / 1,000 cve records

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CVE Exploit Risk Enricher (NVD + CISA KEV + EPSS)

Turn a list of CVE IDs (or a keyword like `fortinet`) into a **prioritized, exploit-aware vulnerability report** in one run. Each CVE is enriched from three authoritative public sources:

- **NVD (NIST)** - description, CVSS v4/v3.1/v3/v2 score, severity, vector, CWE, affected CPEs, references
- **CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV)** - is it exploited in the wild? date added, remediation due date, ransomware use, required action
- **FIRST EPSS** - probability of exploitation in the next 30 days + percentile

Plus a computed `priority` (CRITICAL / HIGH / MEDIUM / LOW) and `priorityScore` so you patch what matters first, not just what has a high CVSS.

### Use cases

- Triage scanner output (Nessus, Trivy, Grype, Dependabot) by real-world exploit risk
- Weekly "new CVEs for my vendors that are being exploited" monitoring (use keyword + *published within N days* + schedule)
- Vendor risk / due-diligence reports, compliance (BOD 22-01 KEV deadlines)
- Feed AI agents / MCP clients with clean JSON vulnerability context

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `cveIds` | List of CVE IDs |
| `keyword` | NVD keyword search (optional) |
| `publishedWithinDays` | Only CVEs published in the last N days (keyword mode, max 120) |
| `maxResults` | Cap on results (default 100) |
| `onlyKnownExploited` | Return only CISA KEV entries |
| `minEpss` | Minimum EPSS probability, e.g. `0.1` |

```json
{"cveIds": ["CVE-2021-44228", "CVE-2023-4966"], "onlyKnownExploited": false}
```

### Output (one item per CVE)

```json
{"cveId":"CVE-2021-44228","cvssScore":10.0,"severity":"CRITICAL","knownExploited":true,"kevDateAdded":"2021-12-10",
 "kevRansomwareUse":"Known","epssScore":0.99999,"epssPercentile":1.0,"priority":"CRITICAL","priorityScore":29.99,
 "description":"Apache Log4j2 ...","cwe":["CWE-20","CWE-400","CWE-502"],"affectedCpes":["cpe:2.3:a:apache:log4j:..."]}
```

Export as JSON, CSV, Excel or via API/webhook/integrations.

### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay only for CVE records delivered. No API keys needed.

### Notes

- NVD public API is rate-limited (~5 requests/30 s without key), so ID lookups take ~6 s each; keyword mode fetches up to 2,000 CVEs per request and is fast.
- Data comes from official public government/industry feeds (NVD, CISA, FIRST). This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.

# Actor input Schema

## `cveIds` (type: `array`):

List of CVE IDs to enrich, e.g. CVE-2021-44228.

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Search NVD by keyword (e.g. 'fortinet', 'openssl') instead of / in addition to IDs.

## `publishedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Limit keyword results to CVEs published in the last N days (max 120). Leave empty for no limit.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum CVEs to return.

## `onlyKnownExploited` (type: `boolean`):

Return only CVEs listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

## `minEpss` (type: `string`):

Filter out CVEs with EPSS probability below this value, e.g. 0.1.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "cveIds": [
    "CVE-2021-44228",
    "CVE-2023-4966"
  ],
  "maxResults": 100,
  "onlyKnownExploited": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

CVE enrichment records in the default dataset (overview view).

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "cveIds": [
        "CVE-2021-44228",
        "CVE-2023-4966"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("calculating_kitchen_h0b/cve-exploit-risk-enricher").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
