## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## App Store Scraper — iOS App Metadata & Reviews

Scrape the **Apple App Store** from one input: search apps by keyword or target specific apps by ID/URL, and get full metadata plus customer reviews — as clean JSON.

Built on Apple's **official iTunes API** (`itunes.apple.com`). **No API key, no login, no proxy, no cookies.**

### What you get

**App metadata** (per app, per country):

- Name, bundle ID, developer / seller, artist links
- Rating (average) and rating count — overall and for the current version
- Price and formatted price, currency
- Genres (primary + all), content advisory rating, advisories
- Version, release date, last update date, minimum iOS version
- File size, supported languages (ISO codes), supported devices
- Full description, release notes
- Artwork (icon) URLs and screenshot URLs (iPhone + iPad)
- Direct App Store URL

**Customer reviews** (best-effort, when Apple exposes them for that app/country):

- Author, star rating, title, review text
- App version reviewed, date, helpfulness votes

### How to use it

**Search by keyword** — put terms in `queries`:

```json
{ "queries": ["meditation", "photo editor"], "country": "us", "limit": 50 }
```

**Target specific apps** — put IDs or URLs in `appIds`:

```json
{ "appIds": ["310633997", "https://apps.apple.com/id/app/id389801252"], "country": "us" }
```

**Just the metadata, skip reviews** (faster, cheaper):

```json
{ "queries": ["budget tracker"], "includeReviews": false }
```

#### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Notes |
|-------|------|---------|-------|
| `queries` | array | — | Search keywords. Each returns up to `limit` apps. |
| `appIds` | array | — | Numeric App Store IDs or full URLs. |
| `country` | string | `us` | Two-letter store code (`us`, `gb`, `id`, `de`, `jp`, …). Prices/ratings/reviews are per country. |
| `limit` | integer | `25` | Apps per search term (1–200). |
| `includeReviews` | boolean | `true` | Also fetch customer reviews. |
| `maxReviews` | integer | `100` | Reviews per app (0–500). |
| `reviewSort` | string | `mostrecent` | `mostrecent` or `mosthelpful`. |

Provide `queries`, `appIds`, or both.

### Pricing

**Pay per app.** You are charged once for each app whose metadata is returned. Reviews are included at no extra charge. Items of `"type": "error"` are never charged.

### Notes & limitations

- **Metadata is complete and reliable** — it comes from Apple's official lookup/search API.
- **Reviews are best-effort.** Apple's review feed covers apps unevenly; some app/country pairs return a full page of reviews, others return none. When no reviews are available the item is still emitted with `reviewsAvailable: false` — you are not charged extra for that.
- Data reflects the **country store** you choose. Ratings, prices and reviews differ by country.

### Output example

```json
{
  "type": "app",
  "trackId": 310633997,
  "trackName": "WhatsApp Messenger",
  "sellerName": "WhatsApp Inc.",
  "averageUserRating": 4.68,
  "userRatingCount": 18743365,
  "formattedPrice": "Free",
  "primaryGenreName": "Social Networking",
  "version": "26.39.75",
  "minimumOsVersion": "15.1",
  "languageCodesISO2A": ["AR", "EN", "ID", "…"],
  "screenshotUrls": ["https://…"],
  "reviewsAvailable": true,
  "reviewsCount": 50,
  "reviews": [
    { "author": "Ikbal Mir", "rating": 5, "title": "Good", "content": "Good", "version": "26.39.75", "updated": "2026-10-08T17:51:51-07:00" }
  ],
  "source": "Apple iTunes API (itunes.apple.com)"
}
```

### Source

All data comes from Apple's public iTunes API endpoints (`itunes.apple.com/search`, `/lookup`, and the customer-reviews RSS feed). No scraping of HTML, no browser, no proxies.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

App Store search keywords (e.g. "meditation", "photo editor"). Each returns up to `limit` apps.

## `appIds` (type: `array`):

Specific apps by numeric App Store ID (e.g. 310633997) or full URL (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id310633997).

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter App Store country code (us, gb, id, de, jp...). Prices, ratings and reviews are per country.

## `limit` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of apps returned for each search term.

## `includeReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Also pull customer reviews for each app (best-effort; Apple's review feed is rate-limited).

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

How many reviews to fetch per app when reviews are enabled. The app page embeds up to ~20 reviews.
