## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Hunt Scraper — Leaderboards, Topics, Categories & Products

Scrape **Product Hunt** four ways and get a clean, flat record for every launch: rank, votes, comments, tagline, description, website, topics, categories, reviews, followers and social links.

1. **Leaderboards** — daily, weekly, monthly or **yearly**, for any date range, optionally **filtered by topic** (e.g. only AI launches)
2. **Topics** — every product in a topic such as *Artificial Intelligence* or *Developer Tools*
3. **Categories** — every product in a category such as *AI Agents*
4. **Products** — specific products or launches by URL

- ✅ **No login, no API key, no cookies**
- ✅ **Fast and light**: ~150 launches in about 10 seconds, no browser
- ✅ **Date ranges**: scrape a full month of daily leaderboards in a single run
- ✅ **Enriched out of the box**: product website (tracking params removed), description, categories, reviews and social links are included in every result — no extra cost per detail page
- ✅ **Pay only for results**: you're charged per result returned, nothing else

### What can you use it for?

- **Startup & market research** — track what launches every day in AI, dev tools, SaaS, productivity…
- **Niche monitoring** — follow one topic or category and get its newest products
- **Lead generation** — collect new products with their website, X/Twitter and LinkedIn pages
- **Competitor monitoring** — check specific products and how their launches performed
- **Trend analysis** — build datasets of votes and ranks over weeks, months or years
- **Newsletters & content** — feed "top AI launches of the week" digests automatically (schedule the actor daily or weekly)

### Input

| Field | Used in mode | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| `mode` | — | `leaderboard`, `topic`, `category` or `products` | `leaderboard` |
| `leaderboard` | leaderboard | `daily`, `weekly` (ISO weeks, Monday–Sunday), `monthly` or `yearly` | `daily` |

| `endDate` | leaderboard | Last day (inclusive). Every day/week/month/year in between is scraped | same as `startDate` |
| `featuredOnly` | leaderboard | `true` = launches on the official leaderboard. `false` = **all** launches of the day, including non-featured (daily only; can be 500+ per day) | `true` |
| `topicFilter` | leaderboard | Keep only launches in these topics (names or slugs, e.g. `Artificial Intelligence`, `developer-tools`). You pay only for matches | all |
| `topics` | topic | Topic URLs or slugs, e.g. `https://www.producthunt.com/topics/artificial-intelligence` | — |
| `categories` | category | Category URLs or slugs, e.g. `https://www.producthunt.com/categories/ai-agents` | — |

### Pricing

Pay per result: you pay only for results returned (launches or products). A typical day is 15–70 featured launches, so scraping one day costs a few cents. With `topicFilter` you only pay for the launches that match. You can cap spending with `maxItems` or the run's maximum charge.

### FAQ

**Does it need a Product Hunt account or API token?** No. It only reads public data.

**How do I find a topic or category slug?** Open the topic or category on Product Hunt and copy the URL (e.g. `https://www.producthunt.com/topics/developer-tools`). You can paste the full URL or just the last part.

**Why is the launch name different from the product name?** A product (e.g. *Figma*) can launch many times (*Figma Motion*, *Figma MCP*…). `productName` is the product, `name` is the launch.

**Why do some days have fewer launches than others?** Product Hunt features a different number of launches each day. The actor returns exactly what the official leaderboard shows (use `featuredOnly: false` to get every launch).

**Can I get maker emails?** No. This actor returns public product data only; it doesn't collect personal contact information.

**What timezone are dates in?** Product Hunt days start at 00:00 US Pacific time, and `startDate`/`endDate` follow that convention.

**Can I use it from an AI agent?** Yes. The input is simple and fully described, so it works well through the Apify MCP server or API.

**Something broke?** Open an issue on the actor's Issues tab. The actor is tested daily against live data.

## `endDate` (type: `string`):

Mode 'leaderboard' only. Last day to scrape (inclusive), format YYYY-MM-DD. Leave empty to scrape only the start date. Every day, week, month or year between start and end date is scraped.

## `featuredOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Mode 'leaderboard' only. If true (default), returns the launches shown on the official leaderboard (typically 15–70 per day). If false, returns ALL launches of the day, including non-featured ones (can be 500+ per day). Only applies to the daily leaderboard.

## `topicFilter` (type: `array`):

Mode 'leaderboard' only. Keep only launches tagged with at least one of these topics, by name or slug (e.g. 'Artificial Intelligence', 'developer-tools'). Leave empty to keep all launches. You are only charged for launches that match.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Mode 'topic' only. Product Hunt topic URLs or slugs, e.g. https://www.producthunt.com/topics/artificial-intelligence or 'developer-tools'. Returns the products listed in each topic with their latest launch.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

Mode 'category' only. Product Hunt category URLs or slugs, e.g. https://www.producthunt.com/categories/ai-agents or 'note-taking'. Returns the products listed in each category with their latest launch.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Modes 'topic' and 'category' only. 'recent' = most recently launched first, 'popular' = most followed first, 'top\_rated' = highest rated first.

## `productUrls` (type: `array`):

Mode 'products' only. Product Hunt product URLs (https://www.producthunt.com/products/notion → its latest launch), launch URLs (…/products/notion/launches/notion-mail → that exact launch) or product slugs ('notion').

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of results to return in total. You are charged per result.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Leave the default (Apify Proxy, automatic): the actor rotates datacenter IPs and falls back to residential proxies automatically if Product Hunt blocks them. Choose a specific proxy group or your own proxies only if you need to.
