## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## 📱 App Store & Google Play Reviews Scraper (+ Complaint Tags)

**Scrape app reviews from the Apple App Store and Google Play in one run.** Paste App Store ids or URLs, Google Play
package names or URLs, or just app names. You get **one clean row per review** in the same format for both stores:
rating, title, text, app version, date, author, helpful votes, developer reply and country. Every review is also
**tagged with complaint themes** (crash, login, update broke it, billing, performance, bugs, account/data, notifications,
ads, UI, customer support), so you can filter thousands of reviews to the ones that matter.

Built for **product managers, app developers, ASO and market-research teams, and AI agents** · keyless · no browser ·
cheap per review · structured JSON / CSV / Excel.

### ⚡ Why this one

- **Both stores, one format.** Compare your iOS and Android reviews (or a competitor's) side by side, without two tools
  and two schemas.
- **Complaint tags on every review.** `complaintTags: ["billing_subscription", "update_broke"]` and a `sentiment` from the
  rating. Add `onlyComplaints: true` to keep just the problems.
- **Free summary row per app:** average rating of the scraped reviews, % negative, and the top complaint themes with shares.
- **Filters:** min/max stars, since a date, newest / most relevant / by rating, any Google Play language, many App Store
  countries (each App Store country serves up to 500 reviews, so add countries for more).

### 📋 What you get (per review)

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `store` | `apple` or `google-play` |
| `appId`, `appName` | App Store id or Google Play package, and the app's name |
| `rating` | 1-5 stars |
| `title`, `text` | Review title (App Store) and text |
| `version` | App version the review was written on |
| `date`, `author`, `helpfulVotes` | When, by whom, how many found it helpful |
| `developerReply`, `developerReplyDate` | The developer's public answer (Google Play) |
| `country`, `language` | Store country / review language |
| `complaintTags` | Complaint themes found in the review |
| `sentiment` | `negative` (1-2★), `neutral` (3★), `positive` (4-5★) |

Plus one `type: "app-summary"` row per app (free): app rating and ratings count, reviews scraped, average rating of the
scraped reviews, negative share and `topComplaints`.

### 📥 Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `apps` | `324684580`, `https://apps.apple.com/us/app/.../id324684580`, `com.spotify.music`, a Google Play URL, or an app name |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | Up to this many reviews per app (default 100, max 10,000) |
| `sort` | `newest`, `most_relevant`, `rating` |
| `countries` | App Store countries to read (each up to 500 reviews); Google Play uses the first |
| `language` | Google Play review language (`en`, `es`, `de`...) |
| `minRating`, `maxRating`, `since` | Star and date filters |
| `onlyComplaints` | Keep only reviews with a complaint theme or 1-2 stars |
| `includeSummary` | Add the free summary row per app (default on) |

**Example: Spotify on both stores, newest 500 each**

```json
{ "apps": ["324684580", "com.spotify.music"], "maxReviewsPerApp": 500 }
```

**Example: only 1-2 star reviews of a competitor since a date**

```json
{ "apps": ["com.duolingo"], "maxRating": 2, "since": "2026-09-01", "maxReviewsPerApp": 2000 }
```

### 💰 Pricing

Pay per review returned (`review` event). Summary rows, apps that can't be found and empty results are free.

### 💡 Use cases

- **Product teams:** what broke in the last release, straight from users, per version.
- **Competitor research:** what users hate about a rival app, by theme, on both platforms.
- **ASO and support:** spot billing and login complaints early; track developer replies.
- **AI agents and pipelines:** one call returns structured, tagged reviews ready to summarize or route.

### 🤖 For AI agents / API

One synchronous call returns the rows:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/centorprat~app-reviews-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>" \
     -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"apps": ["com.spotify.music"], "maxReviewsPerApp": 50, "onlyComplaints": true}'
```

### ❓ FAQ

- **How many reviews can I get?** Google Play: thousands per app (paginated). App Store: Apple's public review feed
  serves up to 500 per app per country; add more `countries` for more reviews.
- **Do I need an API key or login?** No. It reads the stores' public review data.
- **How are complaint tags made?** Keyword themes on the title and text (English). They're a fast filter, not a verdict.
- **Formats?** JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML from the dataset.
