# Domain Expiry & Registration Check (RDAP/WHOIS) (`centorprat/domain-expiry-registration-check`) Actor

Give it domains. For each it queries keyless RDAP (the modern WHOIS) and reports the registrar, creation and expiry dates, days until the domain expires, registry status/locks, nameservers and DNSSEC - with a signal (active / expiring-soon / expired / at-risk). Schedule + webhook for expiry alerts.

## Pricing

from $8.50 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Expiry & Registration Check (RDAP/WHOIS)

**Never let a domain lapse.** A domain that expires takes your whole site, email and apps offline — worse
than an expired certificate. Give it domains; for each it queries keyless **RDAP** (the IANA-standard WHOIS
successor) and reports the **registrar**, creation and expiry dates, **days until expiry**, registry
status/locks, nameservers and DNSSEC — with a clear signal. Schedule it and set `webhookUrl` to get an
alert well before renewal. Keyless, agent-callable.

> 🔎 **Read-only public data.** It looks up public registration records via RDAP — it never contacts the
> domain's own servers. "Expiring-soon" is a renewal reminder.

### ⚡ Why it's useful

The two things that silently take you down are an expired **certificate** and an expired **domain**. This
is the domain half: the exact days remaining, who the registrar is, whether the domain is transfer-locked,
and whether DNSSEC is on — across your whole portfolio in one call.

### 📋 What each report contains

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `signal` | `active` / `expiring-soon` / `expiring-very-soon` / `expired` / `at-risk` / `not-found` |
| `daysUntilExpiry` | Days until the domain registration expires |
| `expires` / `created` | Registry expiry and creation dates |
| `registrar` / `registrarIanaId` | The registrar of record |
| `locked` | Whether a transfer-prohibited lock is set (anti-hijack) |
| `status` | Raw registry EPP statuses (e.g. `client transfer prohibited`, `redemption period`) |
| `dnssec` / `nameservers` | DNSSEC signed, and the delegated nameservers |

`at-risk` means the domain is in a grace/redemption/hold state (e.g. recently lapsed) — act immediately.

### 📥 Input

```json
{ "domains": ["example.com", "your-brand.org"], "warnDays": 45, "criticalDays": 10 }
```

Set `onlyProblems: true` for scheduled alerting. One report per domain.

### 📤 Example output (real run, trimmed)

```json
{ "domain": "google.com", "signal": "active", "daysUntilExpiry": 698,
  "expires": "2028-09-14T04:00:00Z", "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
  "locked": true, "dnssec": false, "status": ["client delete prohibited", "client transfer prohibited"] }
```

In the same run `apify.com` showed 3150 days (DNSSEC on), and subdomains/unregistered names returned
`not-found`.

### 💰 Pricing (pay-per-event)

- **Domain checked — $0.01** per domain with an RDAP record. Not-found domains are free.

### 💡 Use cases

- **IT / ops / brand teams:** a standing expiry alarm across every domain you own.
- **Agencies / MSPs:** monitor all client domains — expiry, registrar and transfer-lock — from one place.
- **Security / brand protection:** catch missing transfer locks or DNSSEC, and domains slipping into redemption.
- **Agents:** callable as an MCP tool — give it domains, get back registration health.

### 🔑 Keyless & agent-callable

No API keys, no accounts, no paid child Actors — just the public RDAP service.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Registrable domains, e.g. \["example.com", "your-brand.org"]. URLs are reduced to the domain. One report per domain.

## `warnDays` (type: `integer`):

Domains expiring within this many days are flagged 'expiring-soon'.

## `criticalDays` (type: `integer`):

Domains expiring within this many days are flagged 'expiring-very-soon'.

## `onlyProblems` (type: `boolean`):

On: return only expiring/expired/at-risk/not-found domains (ideal for scheduled alerting).

## `webhookUrl` (type: `string`):

If set, domains needing attention are POSTed here as JSON - wire it to Slack/email via Make or Zapier.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "apify.com",
    "google.com"
  ],
  "warnDays": 45,
  "criticalDays": 10,
  "onlyProblems": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `domains` (type: `string`):

One report per domain: a signal (active / expiring-soon / expiring-very-soon / expired / at-risk / not-found), registrar, creation and expiry dates, days until expiry, registry status/locks, nameservers and DNSSEC. Public RDAP data, read-only.
