## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## 📍 Google Maps Scraper - Places, Phones, Websites, Emails

**Scrape Google Maps** for any search term in any city: **dentists in Austin**, **pizza in Lisbon**, **plumbers in
Brooklyn**. One row per place: name, **categories**, full **address** (street, neighbourhood, city, postcode, state,
country), **coordinates**, **rating**, **review count**, **phone** (local and international), **website**, **opening
hours**, attributes (accessibility, service options, amenities...), place ID, CID, timezone, photo, permanently /
temporarily closed flags and the Google Maps link. Fast (no browser), no API key.

**Every place in a city, not just the top 120**: a single Google Maps search stops at ~120-200 results. Turn on
`coverWholeArea` and the location is split into a grid and every cell is searched (e.g. **656 dentists across Austin, TX**
instead of ~120), duplicates removed.

**Lead generation built in**:

- `includeContacts`: visits each place's website and adds **emails**, extra phones and **social profiles** (Facebook,
  Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok...).
- `website: "without"`: only businesses **with no website**, the classic list for web designers and agencies.
- Filters: minimum rating, minimum reviews, category, skip closed places.

### 📥 Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | e.g. `["dentist", "orthodontist"]` |
| `locations` | e.g. `["Austin, TX", "Dallas, TX"]` (each term x each location) |
| `maxPlacesPerSearch` | per term x location (up to 10,000 with `coverWholeArea`) |
| `coverWholeArea`, `gridCellKm` | grid mode: every matching place in the city / region |
| `includeContacts`, `maxContactPages` | website emails and socials |
| `website`, `minRating`, `minReviews`, `categoryFilter`, `skipClosed` | filters |
| `language`, `country` | localisation |

```json
{ "searchTerms": ["dentist"], "locations": ["Austin, TX"], "maxPlacesPerSearch": 200, "includeContacts": true, "minReviews": 20 }
```

### 📤 Output (one place, shortened)

```json
{ "name": "ATX Family Dental", "category": "Dentist", "address": "1700 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704", "city": "Austin",
  "postalCode": "78704", "state": "Texas", "latitude": 30.25, "longitude": -97.75, "rating": 4.9, "reviewsCount": 919,
  "phone": "(512) 717-3147", "phoneInternational": "+15127173147", "website": "https://www.atxfamilydental.com/",
  "openingHours": {"Monday": "8 AM–5 PM", "Friday": "8 AM–4 PM"}, "emails": ["info@atxfamilydental.com"],
  "socials": {"facebook": "https://www.facebook.com/atxfamilydental"}, "placeId": "ChIJ...",
  "url": "https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=ATX%20Family%20Dental&query_place_id=ChIJ..." }
```

### 💡 Uses

- **Lead generation** for agencies, SaaS and local services: phones, websites, emails and socials per niche and city.
- **Market research**: how many competitors, how they're rated, where they are.
- **Local SEO**: categories, ratings and review counts of the businesses that rank.
- **Data enrichment**: place IDs and coordinates for your own lists.

### 💰 Pricing

Pay per result: `place` per place (details included: phone, website, hours, attributes) and `contacts` per place where
website contacts are found (only when `includeContacts` is on). Empty searches are free.

### 🤖 API / agents

```bash
### ❓ FAQ
- **API key?** No.
- **More than ~200 places in a city?** Turn on `coverWholeArea` (grid search); smaller `gridCellKm` for dense downtowns.
# Actor input Schema
## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):
What to search on Google Maps, e.g. \["dentist", "pizza", "plumber"]. Can include the place: \["coffee in Lisbon"].
## `locations` (type: `array`):
Cities, neighbourhoods or regions, e.g. \["Austin, TX", "Brooklyn, NY"]. Each term is searched in each location.
## `maxPlacesPerSearch` (type: `integer`):
Per search term x location. A single search lists up to ~120-200 places; turn on 'Cover the whole area' for every place in a city (up to 10,000).
## `coverWholeArea` (type: `boolean`):
Split each location into a grid and search every cell, to get ALL matching places in a city or region instead of Google's top ~120-200. Slower; set maxPlacesPerSearch high.
## `gridCellKm` (type: `number`):
Smaller cells find more places in dense areas (more requests). 2-4 km for cities, 10+ km for rural regions.
## `includeContacts` (type: `boolean`):
Visit each place's website for emails, extra phones and social profiles (charged per place where contacts are found).
## `maxContactPages` (type: `integer`):
Homepage + contact / about pages checked per website.
## `website` (type: `string`):
Places without a website are leads for web designers and agencies.
## `minRating` (type: `number`):
Keep places rated at least this.
## `minReviews` (type: `integer`):
Keep places with at least this many reviews.
## `categoryFilter` (type: `array`):
Keep places whose Google category contains any of these, e.g. \["dentist"].
## `skipClosed` (type: `boolean`):
Drop places marked permanently closed.
## `language` (type: `string`):
Language code for names and texts, e.g. en, de, es.
## `country` (type: `string`):
Google country code, e.g. us, gb, de.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
For very large runs: route through Apify Proxy if Google starts rate-limiting.
