## Pricing

from $0.70 / 1,000 providers

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Healthcare Providers — NPI Registry, Phones, Specialties

Every US healthcare provider is in the **National Provider Identifier registry**: 8 million doctors, dentists, therapists, pharmacies, clinics and hospitals, each with a practice address, phone, fax, licence and specialty. This Actor searches it by specialty, state, city, postal code, name or NPI number and gives you one clean row per provider.

It is a US government service in the public domain — no API key, no account, no quota, and the data is free to use commercially.

### Why this Actor

- **Phones included.** The registry carries the practice telephone and fax for most records, so a specialty plus a city is a call list in one run — 25 dentists in Pasadena, all with numbers, in a single API call during testing.
- **Public-domain government data.** No key, no account, no quota, and free to use commercially — unlike directory sites that forbid exactly this.
- **Clinics and the people in them.** Individuals and organisations share one schema, and an organisation row names its authorised official and their direct number.
- **Readable out of the box.** Names and cities come back in normal case, ZIP+4 is trimmed to five digits, and practice and mailing addresses stay in separate columns.

### Sample output

One item of the dataset (long values shortened):

```json
{
  "npi": "1497566897",
  "name": "2241 Medical Testing Corp",
  "type": "organisation",
  "primarySpecialty": "Urology",
  "phone": "718-375-3746",
  "practiceAddress": "2241 OCEAN AVE",
  "practiceCity": "Brooklyn",
  "practiceState": "NY",
  "url": "https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/provider-view/1497566897"
}
```

### What you get

- **A call list, not a directory dump**: name, credential, specialty, practice address, phone and fax, with a switch for "only providers with a phone number"
- **Individuals and organisations in one schema** — a dentist and the dental group they work for come back with the same columns, with `type` telling them apart and the organisation's authorised official named
- **Every specialty on the record**, not just the primary one, plus the licence number and the state that issued it
- **Direct NPI lookup** for a list you already have, so the same Actor enriches as well as prospects
- Practice and mailing addresses kept apart, ZIP codes trimmed to the five digits people actually search by, and names in readable case instead of the registry's SHOUTING

The registry serves at most 1,200 results for one search; the run says so when it hits that, and splitting by city or postal code goes deeper.

Business contact details are still personal data in many jurisdictions — have a lawful basis before using them for outreach.

### Input example

```json
{
  "specialties": [
    "dentist"
  ],
  "states": [
    "CA"
  ],
  "onlyWithPhone": false,
  "onlyActive": true,
  "maxResults": 200
}
```

### How much does it cost?

Pay per provider — no subscription, no minimum, no charge for platform usage.

| Volume | Price |
|---|---|
| 1,000 providers | $1.00 |
| 10,000 providers | $10.00 |
| 100,000 providers | $100.00 |

The Apify **free plan includes $5 of usage every month** — about 5,000 providers with this Actor, no card needed. Nothing else is charged: platform usage is included in the price, and Apify Bronze, Silver and Gold subscribers get 10%, 20% and 30% off these prices.

### Use it from code, n8n, Make, Zapier or an AI agent

Run the Actor and download the dataset in one call (JSON by default; add `&format=csv` or `xlsx`):

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/chorelet~npi-providers-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"specialties": ["dentist"], "states": ["CA"], "onlyWithPhone": false, "onlyActive": true, "maxResults": 200}'
```

Python:

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("chorelet/npi-providers-scraper").call(run_input={"specialties": ["dentist"], "states": ["CA"], "onlyWithPhone": false, "onlyActive": true, "maxResults": 200})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

- **n8n, Make, Zapier** — use the Apify node/module: run the Actor, then "get dataset items".
- **Google Sheets, Slack, webhooks** — add an integration on the run's *Integrations* tab.
- **AI agents** — the Actor is available as a tool through the Apify MCP server; the dataset schema describes every field for the model.
- **Schedules** — run it hourly, daily or weekly from the *Schedules* tab.

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?**

No. The NPI registry is a US government API: no key, no account and no quota.

**How many providers can one search return?**

The registry serves at most 1,200 per search. Split by city or postal code to go deeper — the run logs it when a search hits the ceiling.

**What specialties can I ask for?**

Whatever the registry calls them: `dentist`, `psychiatry`, `physical therapist`, `family medicine`, `chiropractor`, `pharmacy`, `home health`, `nurse practitioner` and hundreds more. Partial words work.

**Can I enrich NPI numbers I already have?**

Yes — paste them into *NPI numbers* and each one is looked up directly, with the same columns as a search.

**Is this the same as a doctor-review site?**

No. The registry has no ratings or reviews; it has the official record: identity, licence, specialty and practice address. That is also why it is free to reuse.

**Can I use the phone numbers for outreach?**

Legally they are business contact details from a public register, but in many places they are still personal data. Have a lawful basis, honour do-not-call rules, and check the registry's own terms before bulk outreach.

### Support

Questions, missing fields or a source that changed? Open an issue on the *Issues* tab or write to support@chorelet.app — problems are usually fixed within a day, and the Actor is checked every morning by an automated test run. If the Actor saved you time, a short review on its Store page helps other people find it.

# Actor input Schema

## `specialties` (type: `array`):

As the registry words them: `dentist`, `psychiatry`, `physical therapist`, `family medicine`, `chiropractor`, `pharmacy`, `home health`. Several are searched one after another.

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter codes: `CA`, `TX`, `NY`.

## `cities` (type: `array`):

Searched inside the states above, if any.

## `postalCodes` (type: `array`):

Five-digit ZIP codes — the most precise way to stay under the registry's 1,200-per-search ceiling.

## `providerType` (type: `string`):

Individuals are doctors and therapists; organisations are clinics, practices and hospitals.

## `firstName` (type: `string`):

For looking up a particular person.

## `lastName` (type: `string`):

For looking up a particular person.

## `organizationName` (type: `string`):

For looking up a particular clinic or practice.

## `npiNumbers` (type: `array`):

Ten-digit numbers to look up directly — enrichment for a list you already have.

## `onlyWithPhone` (type: `boolean`):

What turns the registry into a call list.

## `onlyActive` (type: `boolean`):

Drops deactivated NPIs.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Across every search. The registry serves at most 1,200 per individual search, so split wide sweeps by city or postal code.
