## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store & Google Play Reviews Scraper

Scrape **app reviews from the Apple App Store and Google Play in one run**, with **one unified output format**. Paste app URLs, IDs or package names, or **just type app names** and the actor finds the apps for you. Filter by **star rating, date and keyword**, scrape **several countries** at once, and get an **app summary row** with the overall rating, ratings count, installs, the rating distribution of the scraped reviews, and the **top complaint keywords**.

No login, no API key and no developer account needed. **$0.40 per 1,000 reviews.**

### What can you use it for?

- **Competitor research:** find out what users hate about competing apps. Filter to 1–2 stars and read the `topKeywordsNegative` summary.
- **Product feedback and bug monitoring:** run daily with *Newest first* and *last 1 day* to catch crash, login and payment complaints after a release.
- **Review sentiment analysis and AI training data:** clean JSON, CSV or Excel output with the rating, text, date, app version and language.
- **App Store Optimization (ASO):** see which features users mention most in 5-star reviews.
- **Agencies and VCs:** compare iOS and Android sentiment for any app side by side.

### Why this scraper?

| | This actor | Typical review scrapers |
|---|---|---|
| iOS **and** Android in one run | ✅ same field names | ❌ separate actors with different formats |
| Search by app name | ✅ | usually you must find the ID first |
| Star, date and keyword filters | ✅ filtered-out reviews are free | often pay for everything |
| Multi-country | ✅ country on every row | often one country |
| Complaint keyword summary | ✅ per app | ❌ |
| Developer replies | ✅ | sometimes |

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `apps` | App Store URLs, Apple numeric IDs, Google Play URLs or package names. Add `appstore:` or `play:` to force a store. |
| `appNames` | App names to search for, e.g. `Notion`. The top match on each store is used. |
| `searchStores` | Which stores to search app names in (both by default). |
| `countries` | Two-letter country codes, default `["us"]`. |
| `language` | Google Play review language, default `en`. |
| `sort` | `newest`, `helpful` or `both`. |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | Maximum reviews per app per country, counted after filters. Default 200. |
| `ratings` | Keep only these star ratings, e.g. `["1","2"]`. |
| `postedWithinDays` | Keep only recent reviews. |
| `keywords` | Keep only reviews that mention any of these words. |
| `includeAppDetails` | Add an app details and summary row (default true). |

#### Example: the last 30 days of complaints for two apps on both stores

```json
{
  "appNames": ["Notion", "Duolingo"],
  "ratings": ["1", "2"],
  "postedWithinDays": 30,
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 1000,
  "sort": "newest"
}
```

#### Example: Spotify reviews mentioning ads, US and UK

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spotify-music-and-podcasts/id324684580",
    "com.spotify.music"
  ],
  "countries": ["us", "gb"],
  "keywords": ["ads", "shuffle"],
  "sort": "both",
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 300
}
```

### Output

Each review is one row (`type: "review"`):

```json
{
  "type": "review",
  "store": "appstore",
  "appId": "324684580",
  "appTitle": "Spotify: Music and Podcasts",
  "country": "us",
  "reviewId": "14743796788",
  "rating": 1,
  "title": "(review title)",
  "text": "(review text)",
  "userName": "(reviewer nickname)",
  "date": "2026-11-02T16:48:04-07:00",
  "appVersion": "9.1.94",
  "thumbsUp": null,
  "developerReply": null,
  "developerReplyDate": null,
  "language": null,
  "appUrl": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spotify-music-and-podcasts/id324684580",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-11-04T04:35:42+00:00"
}
```

Google Play rows also include `thumbsUp` (helpful votes), `developerReply` and `developerReplyDate`, and `language`.

Each app and country also gets one summary row (`type: "app"`):

```json
{
  "type": "app",
  "store": "googleplay",
  "appId": "com.duolingo",
  "title": "Duolingo: Learn Languages",
  "developer": "Duolingo",
  "rating": 4.75,
  "ratingsCount": 31000000,
  "installs": "500,000,000+",
  "version": "6.x",
  "scrapedReviews": 1000,
  "scrapedAvgRating": 1.28,
  "scrapedRatingDistribution": {"1": 761, "2": 291, "3": 0, "4": 0, "5": 0},
  "topKeywordsNegative": [{"word": "streak", "reviews": 96}, {"word": "lesson", "reviews": 109}],
  "topKeywordsPositive": []
}
```

If an app can't be found, you get a free `type: "error"` row and the run continues.

You can download results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or use the API, Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets integrations. The **Reviews** and **Apps & summary** tabs show tables.

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$0.0004 per review**, which is $0.40 per 1,000 reviews
- **$0.002 per app summary row**
- Reviews removed by your filters are **free**.
- Set a *maximum cost per run* in the console; the actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

Example: 1,000 one- and two-star reviews for 2 apps on 2 stores cost about $0.41.

### Limits and tips

- **Apple** returns at most about 500 public reviews per sort order per country. Use `sort: both` and several `countries` to collect more.
- **Google Play** reviews are global per language, so they are scraped once per app, not once per country. Use `language` to change the review language.
- For monitoring, schedule the actor daily with `sort: newest` and `postedWithinDays: 1`.

### FAQ

**Is scraping app reviews legal?** The actor collects only publicly visible reviews from Apple's public review feed and the public Google Play pages. It doesn't log in or bypass access controls. Follow the privacy laws that apply to you when storing usernames.

**Can I get reviews for an app that isn't in the US store?** Yes. Set `countries` to the app's country, e.g. `["de"]`.

**Does it work with the Apify API?** Yes. Start runs with `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/classier_wholemeal~app-reviews-scraper/runs` and read the dataset items.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

One per line. Accepted formats: App Store URL (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spotify/id324684580), numeric Apple ID (324684580), Google Play URL (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music), or package name (com.spotify.music). You can also add a prefix to force the store, e.g. appstore:324684580 or play:com.duolingo.

## `appNames` (type: `array`):

Don't have the IDs? Type app names such as Notion or Duolingo. The top match on each store chosen below is scraped.

## `searchStores` (type: `array`):

Only used for app names.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter country codes (us, gb, de, fr, in, br, jp...). Reviews are scraped separately for each country, and each review row includes its country.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Two-letter language code for Google Play reviews (en, de, es...). App Store reviews come in the country's language.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Newest is best for monitoring. Both gives more unique reviews for App Store apps, which return at most 500 per sort per country.

## `maxReviewsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

The limit applies after filters. Apple limits public reviews to about 500 per sort order per country. Google Play has no practical limit.

## `ratings` (type: `array`):

For example, 1 and 2 to collect only complaints. Leave empty for all ratings.

## `postedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Stop when reviews get older than this. Leave empty for no limit.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Keep reviews whose title or text contains any of these words (case-insensitive), e.g. crash, refund, subscription.

## `includeAppDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Adds one row per app and country with title, developer, overall rating, ratings count, installs, price, version, the rating distribution of the scraped reviews, and the top keywords in negative (1-2 star) and positive (4-5 star) reviews.
