## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Review Insights: Reviews Scraper + Analysis

Get **Apple App Store reviews from 150+ countries in one run**, plus an **insights report** that tells you what users actually complain about and praise. You get the rating trend by app version and month, issue topics, and the most helpful reviews.

No login, no proxies, no API key. Data comes from Apple's official public review feed.

### What you get

**For every app:**

| Insight | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| **Rating trend** | Last 30 days vs the previous 90 days: improving, stable or declining |
| **Ratings by version** | Which release made users angry (or happy) |
| **Issue topics** | Share of reviews about crashes & bugs, performance, login, pricing & subscription, ads, sync & data loss, battery, notifications, support, UI, update regressions, with the average rating of each |
| **Top complaints** | Phrases that are unusually common in 1-2★ reviews, e.g. *"keeps crashing"*, *"family plan"*, *"since the last update"* |
| **Top praise** | What 4-5★ reviewers love, e.g. *"second brain"*, *"helped me learn"* |
| **By country & month** | Where and when ratings change |
| **Most helpful reviews** | The negative and positive reviews other users voted most helpful |

…as a **readable HTML report** and as **JSON** for your dashboards.

**And every review** with stars, title, text, app version, date, country, author and helpful votes.

### Why this Actor

- **Insights, not just rows.** Most review scrapers give you raw rows. This one also does the analysis that ASO tools charge $50+/month for.
- **Complete results.** Apple's review feed often returns empty pages that look like "no more reviews". This Actor detects and retries them (alternating feed formats and bypassing stale cached copies), so you don't silently lose half the reviews.
- **Many countries at once.** Reviews are per country. Add `"us", "gb", "de", "in"`, or `"all"` for every storefront. Duplicates are removed.
- **Paste anything.** App Store URL, numeric app ID or just the app name.
- **Monitor mode.** Turn on *Only new reviews* and schedule a daily run to get a feed of new reviews in Slack, email, Google Sheets or a webhook.

### Who it's for

- **Product managers & app developers:** find out what broke in the last release and what users want next.
- **ASO & app marketing teams:** track ratings across countries and benchmark competitors.
- **Customer support:** catch rising complaint topics early.
- **Researchers & agencies:** collect review data from many apps and countries for analysis.

### Input example

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notion-notes-tasks-ai/id1232780281",
    "Duolingo"
  ],
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "ca", "au"],
  "output": "reviewsAndInsights"
}
```

Useful options:

- **Output:** *Reviews + insights* (default), *Insights only* (one row per app, cheapest) or *Reviews only*.
- **Reviews to fetch:** most recent, most helpful or both.
- **Filters:** minimum/maximum stars (e.g. max 2 for complaints only), keywords, posted within N days. Insights are computed on the filtered reviews, so you can analyse only 1-2★ reviews mentioning "subscription".

### Output

**Dataset**: one row per review:

```json
{
  "appId": "1232780281",
  "appName": "Notion: Notes, Tasks, AI",
  "reviewId": "14675987099",
  "rating": 5,
  "title": "Great with AI agents",
  "text": "It's a great tool for organizing lots of inputs",
  "author": "The Monker",
  "version": "1.7.346",
  "date": "2026-10-17T03:59:35Z",
  "voteSum": 0,
  "voteCount": 0,
  "country": "us",
  "reviewUrl": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1232780281?see-all=reviews"
}
```

**Key-value store**:

- `REPORT`: the HTML insights report (open it from the run's *Output* tab).
- `INSIGHTS`: the same analysis as JSON (rating distribution, trend, topics, top complaints and praise, by version, by month, by country, most helpful reviews).

### Pricing

Pay only for what you get:

- **$0.10 per 1,000 reviews**
- **$0.03 per app analysed** (the insights report; not charged in *Reviews only* mode)

Examples:

- 1 app, 4 countries, about 2,000 reviews + insights = **about $0.23**
- Insights only for 10 competitor apps = **about $0.30**
- Daily monitor of 5 apps with only new reviews = **a few cents a day**

You can set a maximum cost per run in the run options; the Actor stops cleanly when it's reached.

### Limits & notes

- Apple's public feed exposes **up to 500 reviews per country per sort order** (most recent / most helpful). Use more countries, or *Both* sort orders, for more reviews. For very large apps you get the most recent 500 per country, which is what most analysis needs.
- Issue topics are keyword-based and work best on English reviews. Complaint and praise phrases work in any language.
- App names are resolved with Apple's search API (the top result is used). Use the App Store URL or ID to be exact.
- Reviews only, no ratings-without-text: Apple doesn't publish individual star-only ratings.

### FAQ

**Is this legal?** The Actor reads Apple's public customer-review RSS feed and the iTunes Search API, both provided by Apple for public use, and it respects Apple's rate limits. Reviews are public content; make sure your use of personal data such as reviewer nicknames complies with the laws that apply to you (e.g. GDPR).

**Google Play?** Not yet. Tell us in the Issues tab if you need it.

**Something not working?** Open an issue on the Actor page. Feedback is very welcome.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

One per line. Any of: App Store URL ("https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notion-notes-tasks-ai/id1232780281"), numeric app ID ("1232780281") or app name ("Duolingo" - the top App Store search result is used).

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter App Store country codes, e.g. "us", "gb", "de", "in". Use "all" for every storefront (about 150; takes a few minutes per app). Reviews are per country, so more countries = more reviews.

## `output` (type: `string`):

Reviews + insights (default): every review in the dataset, plus a per-app insights record and an HTML report in the key-value store. Insights only: one dataset row per app with the analysis (cheapest). Reviews only: raw reviews, no analysis.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Apple's feed returns up to 500 reviews per country per sort order. "Both" combines most recent and most helpful (up to about 1,000 per country, duplicates removed).

## `maxReviewsPerCountry` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many reviews per country (per sort order). Leave empty for all available (up to 500).

## `minRating` (type: `integer`):

Only keep reviews with at least this many stars (1-5).

## `maxRating` (type: `integer`):

Only keep reviews with at most this many stars, e.g. 2 for complaints only.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Only keep reviews whose title or text contains ANY of these words (case-insensitive), e.g. "crash", "subscription".

## `postedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Only keep reviews from the last N days.

## `onlyNewReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Return only reviews not returned by previous runs with the same app list. Schedule the Actor daily to get a feed of fresh reviews into Slack, email or Sheets. Insights still cover all fetched reviews.

## `monitorKey` (type: `string`):

Optional name for the monitor-mode memory. Set it to keep the same history after you edit the app list.
