## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper & Monitor (Multi-Country)

Search **Google News in 60+ countries and languages in one run** and get clean news data: title, **real publisher URL** (not the news.google.com redirect), publisher, publication date, country, language and, optionally, the **full article text**. Built for brand and media monitoring, PR tracking, competitive intelligence, market research and feeding news into AI agents, spreadsheets or dashboards.

- 🌍 **Many editions at once**: search US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, Brazil and 50+ other Google News editions in one run. The same story found in several editions is returned once, with every edition listed.
- 🔗 **Real article URLs included**: Google News links are decoded to the publisher page (`reuters.com/...`, `lemonde.fr/...`) at no extra cost.
- 📈 **Past the 100-results limit**: Google News returns at most 100 articles per search. The actor splits the period into smaller date windows when a search is full, so you can export thousands of articles for a topic.
- 🔔 **Only new articles**: turn on monitoring, schedule the actor hourly or daily, and get only articles you have not received before. Runs with nothing new cost almost nothing.
- 📰 **Topic headlines**: also get the top stories of any section (Business, Technology, Science, Health, Sports...) for each country.
- 📝 **Full text add-on**: extract the article body, description, author and main image from the publisher page.
- 💸 **Pay only for results**: no monthly fee, no proxy to configure, no API key.

### What can you use it for?

| Use case | How |
|---|---|
| **Brand and reputation monitoring** | Put your brand and product names in *Search queries*, pick your markets, turn on *Only new articles*, schedule it every hour. Send new articles to Slack, email or a Google Sheet with an Apify integration. |
| **Competitor tracking** | One query per competitor (`"Competitor name"`), every country where you sell. |
| **PR and media coverage reports** | Search your company name over a date range and export publisher, URL and date to Excel. |
| **Market and trend research** | Collect all articles on a topic over months with *Go past the 100-results limit*. |
| **AI and RAG pipelines** | Add *Full article text* and feed clean text to an LLM for summaries, sentiment or alerts. Works with the Apify MCP server, n8n, Make and Zapier. |
| **Local news by country** | Use the *Nation* or *Top stories* topic for each edition. |

### How to use it

1. Type one or more **search queries**. Google News operators work: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `site:ft.com`, `intitle:`.
2. Choose the **countries and languages** (editions) to search.
3. Choose a **time range** (last hour to last year) or a **date range**.
4. Click **Start**. Download the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them through the API.

For **news alerts**: turn on *Only new articles*, give the monitor a name, and create a schedule (Console > Schedules) that runs it every hour or every day.

#### Example input

```json
{
    "queries": ["\"Mistral AI\"", "OpenAI OR Anthropic"],
    "editions": ["US:en", "GB:en", "FR:fr", "DE:de"],
    "timeRange": "1d",
    "onlyNew": true,
    "monitorName": "ai-competitors",
    "fetchArticleText": false
}
```

#### Example output

```json
{
    "id": "4f1c2a9e7b3d5a10",
    "title": "Mistral AI unveils new open model for enterprises",
    "url": "https://www.reuters.com/technology/...",
    "publisher": "Reuters",
    "publisherDomain": "reuters.com",
    "publishedAt": "2026-10-24T09:12:00+00:00",
    "query": "\"Mistral AI\"",
    "topic": null,
    "country": "US",
    "countryName": "United States",
    "language": "en",
    "matchedQueries": ["\"Mistral AI\""],
    "matchedTopics": [],
    "editions": ["US:en", "GB:en"],
    "relatedArticles": [],
    "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-25T16:21:18+00:00"
}
```

With **Full article text** on, each article also gets `text`, `description`, `author`, `imageUrl`, `articleDate` and `wordCount`.

### Output fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `title` | Headline, without the " - Publisher" suffix Google adds |
| `url` | Original article URL on the publisher site |
| `publisher`, `publisherDomain` | News outlet name and domain |
| `publishedAt` | Publication date and time (UTC, ISO 8601) |
| `query` / `topic` | The search query or topic section that found the article |
| `country`, `countryName`, `language` | First edition where the article was found |
| `editions`, `matchedQueries`, `matchedTopics` | All editions, queries and topics that returned this same article |
| `relatedArticles` | For topic headlines: other outlets covering the same story |
| `googleNewsUrl` | The original Google News link |
| `text`, `description`, `author`, `imageUrl`, `wordCount` | Only with the full text add-on |

A `RUN_SUMMARY` record in the run's key-value store shows how many feeds were read, how many duplicates were merged and how many articles were returned.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no monthly rental:

- **Article returned**: $2 per 1,000 articles, real publisher URL included.
- **Full text add-on**: $1 per 1,000 articles where text was extracted (paywalled pages are not charged).
- A tiny start fee per run, so frequent monitoring schedules stay cheap.

Example: monitoring 5 brands in 4 countries every hour, with about 40 new articles a day, costs about **$2.40 a month**.

Set *Max articles per run* or a maximum cost per run to keep full control of your spend.

### Tips

- **Too many loose matches?** Put names in quotes (`"Acme Corp"`) or use *Title must contain*.
- **Big historical export?** Set a date range, keep *Go past the 100-results limit* on and raise *Max articles per query and edition*.
- **Several clients?** Use one *Monitor name* per client so their "already seen" memories stay separate.
- **Rate limits?** You do not need a proxy: the actor switches to Apify Proxy by itself if Google slows it down.

### FAQ

**Is it legal to scrape Google News?** The actor reads Google News' public RSS feeds and the public pages of publishers, the same information anyone sees in a browser. It collects no personal data beyond the author name printed on an article. You are responsible for how you use the content, in particular publisher copyright when you republish article text.

**How fresh is the data?** Live: every run reads Google News at that moment. New articles usually appear within minutes of publication.

**Why do some articles have no `url`?** In rare cases Google does not return the publisher link; the `googleNewsUrl` still opens the article.

**Why do some articles have no text?** Paywalled or script-only pages cannot be read. You are not charged the text add-on for them.

**Can I get more than 100 results?** Yes. That is what *Go past the 100-results limit* does, by splitting the date range when a search is full.

Questions or a missing feature? Open an issue on the **Issues** tab; we usually answer within a day.

Keywords, company or brand names to search on Google News. Google operators work: "exact phrase", OR, -exclude, site:lemonde.fr, intitle:. Leave empty if you only want topic headlines.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Optional: also get the top stories of these Google News sections in each edition. TOP = the edition's front page.

## `editions` (type: `array`):

Google News editions to search, all in one run. The same story found in several editions is returned once, with all its editions listed.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

How recent the articles must be. Ignored if you set a date range below.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

Optional start date (YYYY-MM-DD). Use with 'To date' to get historical news. Overrides 'Time range'.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

Optional end date (YYYY-MM-DD), included. Empty = today.

## `splitDateRange` (type: `boolean`):

Google News returns at most 100 articles per search. When a search is full, split the period into smaller date windows to collect more, up to 'Max articles per query'.

## `maxArticlesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Cap for each search query in each edition. Raise it (with the 100-results option on) for big historical exports.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Total cap for the run, after duplicates are merged. 0 = no cap. You are only charged for articles returned.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Return only articles not returned by previous runs with the same monitor name. Schedule the actor hourly or daily for news alerts: runs with nothing new cost almost nothing.

## `monitorName` (type: `string`):

Keeps separate memories for different monitors (for example one per client or brand).

## `decodeUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Decode news.google.com links to the original article URL (lemonde.fr/..., reuters.com/...). Included in the article price.

## `fetchArticleText` (type: `boolean`):

Open each publisher page and extract the article text, description, author and main image. Charged as an extra add-on per article with text found; paywalled pages return no text and are not charged for it.

## `titleMustContain` (type: `array`):

Keep only articles whose title contains at least one of these words (accents and case ignored). Useful to drop loose matches.

## `excludePublishers` (type: `array`):

Publisher names or domains to drop, for example yahoo.com or MSN.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Not needed in most cases: the actor switches to Apify Proxy by itself if Google starts rate limiting.
