## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Contractor License Search & New Contractor Leads

Search and verify **contractor licenses** and get lists of **newly licensed contractors** from **official state open data**. Every record comes in one format: license number, type and specialty, business and principal name, status, issue/effective/expiration dates, address, **phone**, business ID, and **bond and insurance** details where the state publishes them.

**Covered sources (official state Socrata open-data APIs):**
| Source | What it covers | Phones | Dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Washington L\&I | Construction contractors (general & specialty), UBI, principal | yes | effective date (new or renewed) |
| Oregon CCB | Active construction contractors, endorsements, **bond & insurance** | yes | original registration |
| New York DOL Contractor Registry | Public-work contractors, compliance flags (debarment, wage assessments, workers' comp) | yes | issue date |
| Connecticut DCP | Home improvement, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, new-home & major contractors | no | issue date |
| Oregon BCD | Electrical, plumbing, boiler & limited-energy contractor businesses | no | n/a (search) |
| Texas TDLR | Electrical & A/C contractors, master/journeyman electricians, A/C technicians | yes | n/a (search) |

No scraping of state lookup sites, no CAPTCHAs and no login, so runs take seconds.

### Use cases

- **New contractor leads** for insurance, bonding, surety, equipment, software, payroll and suppliers: licenses issued in the last 30 days.
- **License verification / KYB:** check that a contractor is licensed and active, and see their bond and insurance (OR).
- **Trade prospecting:** every active roofing, solar, electrical or HVAC contractor in a city or ZIP, with phone numbers.
- **Daily alerts:** **"Only new since last run"** on a schedule.

### Input examples

New contractors licensed in the last 30 days (default):

```json
{"mode": "newLicenses", "lastNDays": 30}
```

Roofing contractors with phone numbers:

```json
{"mode": "search", "nameContains": "roofing", "requirePhone": true}
```

Electrical contractors in Austin, TX:

```json
{"mode": "search", "sources": ["tx_tdlr"], "licenseTypeContains": ["electrical contractor"], "city": "Austin"}
```

### Output

`state, sourceName, licenseNumber, licenseType, specialty, businessName, personName, status, issueDate, effectiveDate, expirationDate, address, city, addressState, zip, county, phone, businessId, businessType, bond{company, amount, expires}, insurance{company, amount, expires}, complianceFlags, verifyUrl, sourceDataset, sourceLicense, retrievedAt`

See `samples/` for real output. Washington's date is the license **effective** date, which can be a new license or a renewal. Oregon CCB's is the original registration date.

### Pricing

Pay per license record delivered. Cap spend with **Max results**.

### Notes

Data is published by each state agency under its open-data terms (`sourceLicense` and `sourceDataset` are on every item). This Actor is not affiliated with any agency. For legal or permitting decisions, always confirm on the official lookup (`verifyUrl`). Want California CSLB, Arizona ROC or another state? Open an issue.
