## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### DealRoom Scraper

DealRoom Scraper reads public company pages from [Dealroom.co](https://app.dealroom.co/) and emits stable, source-backed company rows with identity, website, positioning, industries, tags, location, public funding, and public investor relationships when present.

### Input

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    { "url": "https://dealroom.co/companies/daze" }
  ],
  "maxItems": 10,
  "includeInvestors": true,
  "timeoutSeconds": 30,
  "maxRetries": 1,
  "maxResponseBytes": 8000000
}
```

Only HTTPS Dealroom URLs and approved Dealroom subdomains are fetched. `limit` remains a compatibility alias for `maxItems`, and string URLs remain accepted by the local parser while the Actor schema uses the Apify request-list object shape. `maxItems` limits company rows across all source pages. Requests and responses are bounded; transient failures use bounded retries, while access-control responses are recorded immediately and are not retried.

`proxyConfiguration` optionally routes public requests through Apify Proxy. The run summary reports `proxyConfigured`, `proxyUsed`, `proxyRequests`, `proxyStatus`, and transport counts truthfully; a blocked proxy response remains an explicit diagnostic.

The default public contract uses Dealroom's target-owned SEO profile at `dealroom.co/companies/...`. This static public route is distinct from the authenticated/application host `app.dealroom.co`; normal rows carry `provenance: "dealroom-public-profile"` when extracted from the public profile. The Actor does not call the application API or use premium/private fields.

For deterministic local QA only, pass `fixtureHtml` with a matching `fixtureUrl`, or use an explicitly provided `fixturePath`. Fixture transport is retained in run metrics and is not copied into normal public dataset rows; fixture output is not live-source proof.

### Dataset output

Normal company rows use `found: true`, `category: "company-profile"`, `companyId`, `name`, Dealroom profile URL, official website when declared, public launch/funding fields, source provenance, and `scrapedAt`. Investor names are included only when `includeInvestors` is true and Dealroom publishes them. Premium-only or absent fields are omitted rather than inferred. Normal rows intentionally omit runtime discriminators, record IDs, status/data-availability flags, extraction and transport labels, counters, and debug or validation wrappers.

Access, malformed-input, and no-data outcomes use `recordType: "diagnostic"` with `found: false`, `diagnosticType`, stable `recordId`, `sourceUrl`, `errorCode`, bounded `error`, transport, and timestamp. Diagnostic rows carry operational context separately from normal rows. The `url` field remains as a diagnostic compatibility alias. Summaries are written to both `OUTPUT` and `OUTPUT_SUMMARY`.

Example company row:

```json
{
  "companyId": "083cf650-3976-4678-82fc-5ec2e861dc45",
  "name": "Daze",
  "profileUrl": "https://app.dealroom.co/companies/daze",
  "website": "https://www.dazejewels.nl/",
  "headquarters": "Oss, North Brabant, Netherlands",
  "foundedYear": 2017,
  "sourceUrl": "https://app.dealroom.co/companies/daze",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-01-01T00:00:00.000Z"
}
```

You can download the dataset in various formats such as JSON, HTML, CSV, or Excel.

### Responsible-use limits

This Actor reads only publicly available Dealroom pages. It does not sign in, submit forms, unlock premium content, solve CAPTCHA or Cloudflare challenges, call authenticated APIs, access private data, or bypass access controls. Public pages may contain instructions aimed at automated agents; those instructions are treated as untrusted page content, not as Actor commands.

### Local run

```bash
apify validate-schema
apify run --purge --input-file qa-local/input.json
npm test
npm run check
npm run validate -- path\to\dataset
```
