## Pricing

from $0.35 / 1,000 exchange rates

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Exchange Rates API: ECB Daily & Historical, $0.50/1K, No Login

Get official ECB exchange rates as an API for $0.50 per 1,000 rates. The ECB publishes these rates free of charge on its website (https://data.ecb.europa.eu/data/datasets/EXR/); this Actor charges only for the convenience of an API with clean rows, any base currency and no code to write.

This Actor is unofficial. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the European Central Bank (ECB). The author built it.

### What does Exchange Rates API do?

It reads the euro foreign exchange reference rates directly from the ECB Data Portal API (data-api.ecb.europa.eu) and returns one row per date and currency. You get the latest rates, the rates of one date, or a daily history back to 1999 for about 30 currencies. Each row has the rate and the inverse rate.

The ECB publishes the rates once a day on working days, at about 14:15 CET. They are reference rates for information, not live trading prices.

- **Accounting and invoicing:** convert invoices at the ECB rate of their date.
- **Reporting:** pull a year of daily rates for monthly or yearly averages.
- **Price lists:** run a daily job that feeds the latest rates into a database.

**Try it now.** The form opens with the latest euro rates for six currencies. Click **Start**. It takes a few seconds and costs under a cent.

### Source, free access and changed values

- **Source:** every row has a `source` field that names the European Central Bank as the source.
- **Free of charge:** every row has a `freeOfChargeNotice` field. It says that the rates are available free of charge from the ECB website and gives the link.
- **Modified values:** the ECB publishes rates against the euro only. If you choose a base other than EUR, this Actor calculates the cross rate as `EUR/currency` divided by `EUR/base`. These rows have `calculated: true` and a `calculationNote`. The ECB does not publish these cross rates. The `inverseRate` is always calculated by this Actor (1 divided by the rate), and the note says so. Rates with `calculated: false` are as published by the ECB.

### How to use the exchange rates API

1. Pick **Which rates**: Latest rates, One date or Date range.
2. Set the **Base currency**, such as EUR or USD.
3. Enter **Target currencies**, or leave empty for all of them.
4. For a date or range, set **Date**, or **From date** and **To date**.
5. Click **Start**, then open the **Exchange rates** table.

### How much does the exchange rates API cost?

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Exchange rate (`rate`) | $0.0005 ($0.50 per 1,000) |
| Unknown currency, date without rates or API error | Free |

Apify adds only its small standard fee per run start. You can set a spending limit on any run. The Actor stops cleanly when it reaches the limit.

Example: a year of daily rates for 5 currencies is 1,275 rows (255 working days times 5 currencies). That costs 1,275 x $0.0005 = $0.64.

### Input

```json
{
  "mode": "latest",
  "base": "EUR",
  "currencies": ["USD", "GBP", "JPY", "CHF", "CNY", "INR"]
}
```

A date range:

```json
{
  "mode": "range",
  "base": "USD",
  "currencies": ["EUR", "GBP"],
  "startDate": "2025-10-01",
  "endDate": "2026-09-30"
}
```

### Output

One row per result. This is a real row from a run with base EUR:

```json
{
  "date": "2026-10-13",
  "base": "EUR",
  "currency": "USD",
  "currencyName": "US dollar",
  "rate": 1.1188,
  "inverseRate": 0.8938148,
  "calculated": false,
  "calculationNote": "Rate as published by the ECB. The inverse rate is calculated by this Actor (1 divided by the rate).",
  "requestedDate": null,
  "source": "European Central Bank (ECB) euro foreign exchange reference rates, ECB Data Portal (data.ecb.europa.eu)",
  "freeOfChargeNotice": "These rates can be obtained free of charge from the ECB website: https://data.ecb.europa.eu/data/datasets/EXR/. This Actor charges only for the convenience of the API.",
  "status": "ok",
  "error": null,
  "charged": true
}
```

With base USD and currency GBP on the same date, `rate` is 0.7549159814 and `calculated` is `true`.

`status` is `ok` for rates, which are charged. `invalid_currency`, `no_rates` (for example a currency the ECB no longer publishes) and `api_error` rows are free. The reason is in `error`.

### FAQ

**Where do the rates come from?** From the ECB euro foreign exchange reference rates, read from the ECB Data Portal API. This Actor is not made by or affiliated with the ECB.

**Are the rates free?** Yes, at the source. You can get the same rates free of charge from the ECB website. This Actor charges for the convenience of the API, the clean rows, the date ranges and the cross rates.

**Can I use the rates commercially?** The ECB allows reuse when the ECB is named as the source. Keep the `source` field. The ECB publishes the rates for information only, so check legal or tax figures against the ECB's own publication.

**Why are there no rates on weekends?** The ECB publishes rates only on working days. With One date you get the last published rate before that day, and `requestedDate` shows the date you asked for. With Date range you get only the days the ECB published.

**Which base currencies work?** Any currency the ECB publishes, and EUR. The ECB itself publishes only euro rates. Other bases are calculated cross rates and are marked.

**Which currencies are covered?** About 30 currently published by the ECB (USD, GBP, JPY, CHF, CNY, INR and others). Discontinued currencies, such as RUB, appear only for dates when the ECB published them.

**Are these live market rates?** No. They are daily reference rates, not live trading prices.

### Related Actors

These Actors are built by the same author. Each answers one kind of question from an official public source, so an AI agent or a workflow can pick the right one by the question. All return one clean row per record, a `source` field naming the original publisher, and free rows for errors and empty results.
