# Social Preview Audit (Open Graph) (`conserving_mastodon/social-preview-audit`) Actor

Will your links unfurl correctly on social and chat platforms? Open Graph tags, Twitter card, canonical, and title/description lengths checked per URL, with og:image actually verified reachable, not just present. Specific issues per URL. Charged only on completed audits.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Social Preview Audit (Open Graph)

**Why does the link look broken when shared?** This Actor answers it before anyone shares: for each URL it checks the Open Graph tags, the Twitter card, the canonical link, and title/description lengths — and it **verifies the og:image actually loads**, which is where most preview failures hide (an image URL that exists in markup and 404s in reality).

### Output

Summary plus one row per URL:

```json
{
  "url": "https://example.com/launch-post/",
  "og_title": "Our Big Launch",
  "og_image": "https://cdn.example.com/launch.png",
  "og_image_reachable": false,
  "twitter_card": null,
  "issues": [
    "og:image URL is dead (preview shows a broken image)",
    "twitter:card missing (X/Twitter uses a minimal preview)"
  ]
}
```

### Use cases

- **Before campaigns**: audit every URL in the send list; broken previews burn the best channel you have.
- **Agents publishing content**: verify the preview right after publishing, automatically.
- **Site-wide sweeps**: feed a sitemap's top URLs and fix the pages people actually share.

### Honesty notes

- Static HTML is what's audited; previews injected purely by client-side JavaScript are invisible to most platform crawlers too, so this matches how platforms actually see the page.
- One GET per URL plus one HEAD per og:image; up to 50 URLs per run.
- If none of the URLs are reachable, the run says so and **you are not charged**; billing is per completed audit.
