## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## App Store Listing Asset Auditor

Audit Apple App Store screenshots, listing depth, update freshness, and localisation differences across countries. The Actor uses Apple's public lookup endpoint, so it needs no browser, proxy, login, API key, or paid AI model.

It is designed for app developers, ASO teams, agencies, and autonomous agents that need inexpensive, structured listing checks.

### What it checks

- iPhone and iPad screenshot coverage
- Screenshot dimensions and orientation reported by Apple's image URLs
- Whether dedicated iPad assets exist when the app declares iPad support
- Description and release-note depth
- Seller website presence and HTTPS
- High-resolution artwork availability
- Days since the current version was released
- Text and screenshot differences across selected storefront countries

The `auditScore` is a practical completeness signal, not an Apple approval guarantee. Apple can change App Store requirements, and a high score does not replace App Review or human creative judgement.

### Input

Provide numeric App Store IDs, full App Store URLs, or a mixture of both. Add one or more two-letter storefront country codes.

```json
{
    "apps": ["361309726", "https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/keynote/id361285480"],
    "countries": ["gb", "us", "fr", "de"],
    "includeScreenshotUrls": true,
    "requestTimeoutSecs": 10,
    "maxConcurrency": 4
}
```

The Actor accepts at most 20 apps, 20 countries, and 100 app-country audits in one run. Duplicate IDs and country codes are removed. `uk` is accepted and normalised to Apple's `gb` storefront code.

### Output

Each successful app-country audit produces one dataset item. A missing app or failed lookup is written to the `ERRORS` key-value-store record and is not charged as a successful audit.

```json
{
    "appId": "361309726",
    "country": "gb",
    "appName": "Pages: Create Documents",
    "developer": "Apple",
    "bundleId": "com.apple.Pages",
    "auditScore": 100,
    "readiness": "strong",
    "phoneScreenshotCount": 10,
    "ipadScreenshotCount": 10,
    "daysSinceUpdate": 73,
    "countriesAudited": 4,
    "metadataVariantCount": 4,
    "screenshotVariantCount": 3,
    "recommendations": [],
    "auditedAt": "2026-09-12T12:00:00.000Z"
}
```

The complete output also contains individual checks, screenshot metadata, declared languages, stable comparison fingerprints, pricing, version information, and country-to-country comparison flags.

### Pricing

Recommended Store pricing is **$0.02 per successful country audit**, with platform usage included. The source emits the `country-audit` pay-per-event event only when Apple returns a matching app. Configure that event as the primary event in Apify Console before publication. Keep Apify's recommended synthetic `apify-actor-start` event at $0.00005 so the platform covers the first five seconds of compute.

This structure makes the Actor eligible for Apify's agentic-payment discovery when the account has completed KYC and the Actor uses limited permissions. Autonomous clients can then discover and pay for it through supported payment protocols without a bespoke sales process.

### Run locally

```bash
npm install
npm test
npm run smoke
npx apify-cli run
```

For a local Actor run, write input to `storage/key_value_stores/default/INPUT.json`, or use the default Pages/GB health-check input.

### Reliability and privacy

- Only numeric Apple app IDs and two-letter country codes reach the network client.
- Network requests go exclusively to `https://itunes.apple.com/lookup`.
- Transient errors are retried with short exponential backoff.
- Requests have a configurable hard timeout.
- Missing apps and request failures are not charged as successful audits.
- No customer credentials, cookies, personal data, or uploaded files are required.
- The Actor has no third-party model or proxy costs.

### FAQ

#### Does this guarantee App Store approval?

No. It audits public listing completeness and consistency. It does not reproduce Apple's private review process.

#### Can it update my App Store listing?

No. It is deliberately read-only, which keeps permissions and maintenance risk low.

#### Why do country results differ?

Apple returns storefront-specific metadata and assets. Different counts or fingerprints indicate that the public listing varies, not necessarily that one country is wrong.

#### Do failed lookups cost money?

The Actor emits its paid event only for successful audits. Errors are recorded separately.

#### Does my Mac need to stay awake?

No. Once deployed, the Actor runs in Apify's cloud and can be invoked from the Store, API, MCP integrations, or schedules.
