## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Accessibility Checker (axe-core) — WCAG Violations Audit

Audits a public page with **axe-core**, the open-source accessibility
engine used by Chrome DevTools, and returns every WCAG violation found,
with its impact, affected elements and the official link to the fix. No
third-party API keys, no login.

### What it does

- Loads the page with a real headless Chrome, injects axe-core, and runs
  its standard scan (the same rules used by the axe DevTools extension).
- Returns violations **sorted by impact** (critical → serious → moderate →
  minor), each with `help`, `helpUrl` and up to 3 sample affected elements
  (`nodeCount` carries the real total).
- Also returns how many rules passed (`passesCount`) and how many are
  incomplete (`incompleteCount`, cases that need manual review according to
  axe-core).

### Who it's for

- Teams that need an accessibility report before a launch or to meet a
  client/tender requirement.
- Agencies auditing third-party sites in bulk.

### Input

| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `url` | string | Yes | One page per run (pay-per-event = 1 event per page). |
| `waitForSelector` | string | No | CSS selector to wait for before auditing, if content loads via JS and appears late. |

```json
{ "url": "https://example.com" }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "url": "https://example.com",
  "violations": [
    {
      "id": "landmark-one-main",
      "impact": "moderate",
      "description": "Ensure the document has a main landmark",
      "help": "Document should have one main landmark",
      "helpUrl": "https://dequeuniversity.com/rules/axe/4.13/landmark-one-main",
      "tags": ["cat.semantics", "best-practice"],
      "nodeCount": 1,
      "sampleTargets": ["html"]
    }
  ],
  "violationCount": 2,
  "passesCount": 13,
  "incompleteCount": 0,
  "inapplicableCount": 75,
  "axeVersion": "4.13.0",
  "checkedAt": "2026-09-20T03:34:11.819Z"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay-per-event, provisional. Starting reference: USD 0.04 per page audited
(`03-plan.md` §2).

### How to call it

```bash
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/cuantic-data~accessibility-axe-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"url": "https://example.com"}'
```

### Terms and limits

See [`TERMS.md`](./TERMS.md): uses axe-core (Mozilla Public License 2.0,
commercial use allowed), running against the user's own page.

### What it does NOT do

- It doesn't fix anything automatically — it reports, with the official
  link to the fix.
- If the page loads content via JavaScript after the network-idle event,
  that content may be left out of the audit unless you use
  `waitForSelector`.
- It's not a legal certification of WCAG/ADA compliance: it's an automated
  technical audit that, by axe-core's own design, doesn't cover 100% of
  criteria (some require human review — those land in `incompleteCount`).

### FAQ

**Why does it say "incomplete" instead of pass or fail?**
axe-core flags cases it can't decide 100% automatically (e.g. whether an
alt text is genuinely descriptive) — they need human review, it's not an
Actor error.

# Actor input Schema

## `url` (type: `string`):

Public http(s) URL of a single page.

## `waitForSelector` (type: `string`):

If content loads via JS and appears late, provide a CSS selector to wait for before auditing (e.g. '#app'). If left empty, waits for the network to go idle.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "url": "https://example.com"
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Every WCAG violation found for the audited URL, plus pass/incomplete/inapplicable totals.

## `runSummary` (type: `string`):

Audited URL and total number of violations found.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "url": "https://example.com"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("cuantic_data/accessibility-axe-checker").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
