## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RepairPal Shop Scraper

Collect structured shop leads from publicly accessible RepairPal city search pages. The Actor accepts a batch of cities, follows the shop profiles available from each search, applies optional filters, and removes duplicates across cities.

### Input

`cities` is required and must contain one or more city names. Optional inputs are:

- `keyword`: case-insensitive text filter for the shop name, address, or certifications.
- `perCityLimit`: maximum accepted shops per city, from 1 to 50 (default 50).
- `minRating` and `minReviewCount`: minimum rating and review thresholds.
- `websitePresence`: `any`, `required`, or `absent` (default `any`).
- `maxItems`: total result limit across all cities.
- `maxConcurrency`: detail-page concurrency from 1 to 10 (default 4).
- `proxyConfiguration`: optional Apify proxy configuration.

Example:

Run with Python 3.11+ after installing the declared project dependencies:

```bash
python -m repairpal.cli input.json
```

The CLI accepts a JSON file (or standard input) and writes JSON Lines. Item lines contain normalized records; charge lines are emitted only after the corresponding unique item has been persisted by the sink.

Example input:

```json
{
  "cities": ["Los Angeles, California", "Phoenix, Arizona"],
  "keyword": "brake",
  "perCityLimit": 50,
  "minRating": 4.5,
  "minReviewCount": 10,
  "websitePresence": "any",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "maxConcurrency": 4,
  "proxyUrl": null
}
```

### Output

Each dataset item contains `name`, `phone`, `website`, `address`, `rating`, `reviewCount`, `warranty`, `hours`, `certifications`, `sourceUrl`, and `city`. Missing source fields are returned as `null` (or an empty certification list). Results are de-duplicated across cities by phone, canonical profile URL, then normalized name and address.

### Pricing

The Actor charges one `shop-scraped` event for each unique shop lead after it is successfully persisted to the dataset. Failed or unpersisted leads are not charged. The final monetary price is configured on Apify.

### Limitations

The Actor depends on the public RepairPal page structure and only returns shops exposed by the requested city searches. `perCityLimit` is capped at 50, and fields are populated only when present in the source page. Results and page availability can change as RepairPal updates its site; this Actor does not require customer login.
