## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## RedNote (Xiaohongshu) Scraper — notes, engagement and images

**Pull public RedNote posts with real engagement numbers** — description, author, likes, collects,
comment count, share count, publish time and image URLs. No login, no cookies, no API key.

RedNote (小红书) is where 300M+ users research products before buying. This Actor reads the public
explore feed, or any note link you paste, and returns clean structured JSON.

### Who uses this

- **Brand and market researchers** tracking what Chinese consumers say about a category.
- **Social listening teams** measuring engagement on posts that mention a product.
- **Trend analysts** watching what surfaces on the explore feed day to day.
- **Agencies** benchmarking creator reach before a campaign.

### What you get

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `description` | full post text |
| `authorName` | 面食小助手 |
| `likedCount` | 59000 |
| `collectedCount` | 737 |
| `commentCount` | 3136 |
| `shareCount` | 324 |
| `publishedAt` | ISO 8601 timestamp |
| `images` | array of image URLs |

Counts are returned as real numbers: RedNote writes large values as `1.3万` (13,000) and `2.5亿`
(250,000,000), and this Actor expands them rather than reporting `1.3`.

### Input

```json
{
  "noteUrls": [],
  "includeExploreFeed": true,
  "maxItems": 20
}
```

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `noteUrls` | RedNote note links. Paste the **full** URL including `?xsec_token=…`. |
| `includeExploreFeed` | Read the public explore feed. Also how valid note tokens are obtained. |
| `maxItems` | 1–200, default 20. |

#### Why the token matters

RedNote note links carry a short-lived `xsec_token`. A bare `/explore/<id>` returns
"page not found" — so copy the whole URL as shared, or leave `noteUrls` empty and let the explore
feed supply both the ids and their tokens.

### Frequently asked questions

**Do I need a RedNote account, cookie or API key?** No.

**Can I get the comment text?** No — and no honest scraper can without an account. RedNote serves
comment bodies through a separately signed endpoint, so this Actor returns the accurate
`commentCount` and does not fabricate the rest.

**Can I search by keyword?** Not currently. RedNote's search results are not present in the public
HTML. Use the explore feed or supply note URLs.

**Am I charged for blocked or empty runs?** No. Only genuine note rows are charged; blocked pages,
expired tokens and empty runs return uncharged diagnostics.

### Billing

Two charges apply: a **$0.001 run-start fee** each time a run begins, and the per-note fee for notes
actually returned. A run that returns nothing costs only the start fee.

### Limits and honest notes

- Public notes only. Private and deleted notes return an uncharged `NOT_FOUND` row.
- Tokens expire. If a saved URL stops working, re-copy it from RedNote.
- Comment text and keyword search are not available publicly (see FAQ).

# Actor input Schema

## `noteUrls` (type: `array`):

RedNote note links. Paste the FULL URL including its ?xsec\_token=... query string - RedNote links only resolve with the token they were shared with. Leave empty to read the public explore feed instead.

## `includeExploreFeed` (type: `boolean`):

Pull notes from the public explore feed. This is also how valid note tokens are obtained.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum notes to return (1-200).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Leave as-is unless you need a specific egress.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "noteUrls": [],
  "includeExploreFeed": true,
  "maxItems": 20,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "noteUrls": [],
    "maxItems": 20,
    "proxyConfiguration": {
        "useApifyProxy": false
    }
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("dami_studio/rednote-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
