## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple App Store Scraper: Reviews, Ratings & In-App Prices

Get the App Store data that the iTunes Search API leaves out. Paste any iPhone or iPad app link (or app ID), pick one or many countries, and get a clean table with:

- **Star rating breakdown** (how many 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 star ratings) plus average and total count
- **Every in-app purchase with its price** in the local currency (subscriptions, coin packs, lifetime purchases)
- **App privacy labels** (Data Used to Track You, Data Linked to You, and so on)
- **Chart position** in its category and **Editors' Choice** status
- Current **version, last update date, release notes**, size, age rating, languages, compatibility
- **Recent reviews** shown on the app page, with the developer reply
- App price, currency, developer, bundle ID, category, icon and description

Works for 170+ App Store countries. You can also feed it Apple's official **Top Free** and **Top Paid** charts and get full details for every app on the chart.

### Who uses this

- **App developers and indie makers** checking what competitors charge for subscriptions in the US, UK, Mexico, India or Brazil before setting their own prices.
- **ASO and growth teams** tracking rating breakdowns, version cadence and chart rank over time.
- **Market researchers and investors** comparing apps across countries in one spreadsheet.
- **Privacy and compliance teams** auditing which data categories apps declare.
- **Agencies** building monthly competitor reports for app clients.

### Why this one

| | This Actor | Typical App Store scrapers |
|---|---|---|
| Star breakdown (5 to 1) | Yes | No, only the average |
| In-app purchase list with prices | Yes, per country | Rarely |
| Privacy labels | Yes | No |
| Category chart position | Yes | No |
| Same app in many countries in one run | Yes | Often one country per run |
| Reviewer names | Off by default | Always on |
| Respects Apple robots.txt | Yes, public app pages only | Often uses disallowed endpoints |

### How to use

1. Paste app links or IDs into **Apps**. Example: `https://apps.apple.com/us/app/duolingo-learn-languages/id570060128` or `570060128`.
2. Add **Countries** (two letter codes like `us`, `gb`, `mx`, `de`, `jp`). Each app is checked in each country.
3. Optional: add **Top charts**, for example `[{"chart": "top-paid", "country": "us", "limit": 50}]`.
4. Click **Start**. Download results as JSON, CSV, Excel, or connect them to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or n8n.

The dataset has three ready views: **Overview**, **In-app purchase prices** and **Privacy labels**.

### Pricing

Pay per result. You pay **$4.00 per 1,000 app records** ($0.004 each). One record is one app in one country. Apps that are not sold in a country are skipped and **not charged**. Chart lookups are free.

You stay in control: set **Max results** in the input, or a max cost per run in the run options, and the Actor stops cleanly when it hits your limit.

Examples:

- 20 competitor apps in 10 countries = 200 records = $0.80
- Top 100 paid apps in the US = 100 records = $0.40

#### What it costs for your job

| You are | Typical setup | Records | You pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indie developer setting subscription prices | 10 competitor apps in 8 countries, once | 80 | $0.32 |
| ASO or growth team | 15 apps in 1 country, weekly schedule (4 runs a month) | 60 | $0.24 a month |
| Agency with monthly client reports | 5 clients x 10 competitors x 3 countries, monthly | 150 | $0.60 a month |
| Investor or market researcher | Top 100 paid apps in 5 countries | 500 | $2.00 |
| Privacy or compliance team | 200 apps in 1 country, privacy labels view | 200 | $0.80 |
| Developer or AI agent | Any setup through the Apify API or MCP | 10,000 | $40.00 |

Apify adds a tiny start fee per run ($0.00005 per GB of memory). Chart lookups are free.

**When something else is a better fit**

- You only need basic app info (name, price, average rating, version) for thousands of apps. Apple's free iTunes Search and Lookup API covers that, and basic metadata scrapers on Apify cost less per app. This Actor is worth it when you need in-app purchase prices, privacy labels, the 5 to 1 star breakdown or chart rank.
- You need thousands of reviews per app. This Actor returns the recent reviews shown on the app page. A review focused scraper that charges per review is cheaper for that.
- You need download or revenue estimates. Apple does not show them on the App Store, so no scraper can give real numbers. Paid app intelligence tools model those estimates.

### Use it from AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients through the Apify MCP server. Prompts that work well:

- "Compare the subscription prices of Calm and Headspace in the US, UK, Mexico and Japan."
- "Show the star rating breakdown and latest reviews for app 570060128 in 5 countries."
- "List the in-app purchases of the top 20 paid apps in Germany."

Inputs are App Store links or IDs, outputs are flat JSON, and apps not sold in a country are not charged, so agents can call it safely.

### Schedule it

Run it every week on your app and your top competitors, then send the dataset to Google Sheets, Slack, email, Zapier or Make with Apify integrations. You get a weekly log of rating changes and price moves.

### Countries and language

By default pages load in English so every field is filled the same way everywhere. Prices always stay in the local currency (MXN, GBP, JPY...). Turn on **Use the local language of each country** to get local app names, descriptions and release notes.

### Reviews: what you get

This Actor returns the reviews Apple shows on each app page (usually around 8 to 10 per app per country), with star rating, title, text, date and the developer reply. It is built for snapshots and competitor research, not for downloading every review an app ever got. Run it in several countries to collect more.

### Data, privacy and legal

- Only public App Store product pages (`apps.apple.com/{country}/app/...`) and Apple's official marketing RSS feed for charts are used. Both are allowed by Apple's robots.txt. Disallowed paths (search, internal APIs, legacy iTunes feeds) are blocked in code.
- No login, no cookies, no account data.
- Reviewer nicknames are **not** collected unless you turn that on. If you do, you are responsible for having a lawful reason under GDPR, CCPA or your local law.
- Requests are rate limited by default to be polite to Apple.

### How to scrape Apple App Store data

1. Paste App Store links or app IDs (for example `570060128`), or pick Top Free / Top Paid charts.
2. Choose one or many countries.
3. Click **Start** and download app details, ratings, reviews and in-app purchase prices as JSON, CSV or Excel.

### How to scrape App Store reviews and ratings

Every row includes the star rating breakdown (5 to 1 stars), the average rating, total ratings and the recent reviews Apple shows on the app page, with the developer reply. Run the same app in several countries to compare ratings by market.

### How to get in-app purchase prices for any iOS app

The scraper lists every in-app purchase and subscription with its name and local price. Run it across countries to compare subscription pricing for competitor research and ASO.

### FAQ

**Can I track ratings over time?** Yes. Schedule the Actor daily or weekly in Apify and compare `ratingHistogram` and `ratingCount` between runs.

**Does it work for Mac, Apple TV or Vision Pro apps?** It reads the same App Store product page, so most fields work for any app that has a page on apps.apple.com.

**Does it support Google Play?** No. This Actor is App Store only.

**Something broke?** Open an issue on the Issues tab with the app link and country. Apple changes its pages from time to time and fixes are usually shipped fast.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

Paste App Store links like https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252 or just the number 389801252. One per line.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two letter App Store country codes, like us, gb, mx, es, de, jp. Every app is checked in every country you add (1 result per app per country). Leave empty to use the country in the link, or us.

## `charts` (type: `array`):

Also pull apps from Apple's official top charts. Example: \[{"chart": "top-free", "country": "us", "limit": 25}]. chart is top-free or top-paid. limit is 1 to 100. Each app found gets a full record with its chart rank.

## `includeReviews` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the reviews Apple shows on the app page (usually 8 to 10 per app per country) with star rating, title, text, date and the developer reply.

## `maxReviewsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

0 turns reviews off.

## `includeReviewerNames` (type: `boolean`):

Off by default to keep personal data out of your dataset. Only turn this on if you have a lawful reason to store nicknames.

## `includeDescription` (type: `boolean`):

Turn off for smaller, faster datasets.

## `localLanguage` (type: `boolean`):

Off (default): pages load in English so every field is filled the same way in every country. Prices always stay in the local currency. On: app names, descriptions and release notes come in the local language, but category and languages may be empty in some countries.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Hard stop. The run ends after this many app records are saved. Protects your budget.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many pages load at the same time. Keep it low to be polite to Apple.

## `maxRequestsPerMinute` (type: `integer`):

Speed limit for page loads.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Not needed for most runs. Turn on only if you see many failed requests on very large runs.
