## Pricing

Pay per usage

This Actor is paid per platform usage. The Actor is free to use, and you only pay for the Apify platform usage, which gets cheaper the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Variable Insurance Products

Apify Actor that downloads an official SEC **Variable Insurance Product (VIP) monthly data set** ZIP and returns structured **submission-level** VIP filing rows from `sub.tsv`, with series/class and fact counts from `scn.tsv` / `num.tsv` / `txt.tsv`.

Data source index: https://www.sec.gov/data-research/sec-markets-data/variable-insurance-product-data-sets

ZIP paths (tried in order):

- `https://www.sec.gov/files/structureddata/data/variable-insurance-product-data-sets/{YYYY-MM}_vip.zip`
- `https://www.sec.gov/files/datastandardsinnovation/data/variable-insurance-product-data-sets/{YYYY-MM}_vip.zip`

Monthly ZIPs use a simple calendar-month slug (e.g. `2026-08_vip.zip`). Input `month` accepts `2026-08` or `202608`.

**Grain:** one dataset item per VIP **submission** (`sub.tsv` row). Detail tables (`num.tsv`, `txt.tsv`, `tag.tsv`) and full series/class rows are **not** dumped; only `seriesClassCount`, `seriesCount`, `classCount`, `numCount`, and `txtCount` are attached.

Distinct from:

- SEC EDGAR Form N-MFP Filings (monthly money market fund reports)
- SEC EDGAR Form N-CEN Filings (annual reports for registered investment companies)
- SEC EDGAR Form D Offerings (Reg D / Form D exempt offerings)
- SEC EDGAR Crowdfunding Offerings (Regulation Crowdfunding / Form C)
- SEC EDGAR Regulation A Offerings (Form 1-A)
- SEC Form ADV Registered Advisers
- SEC EDGAR Recent Filings / Current Filings / Daily Index / Filing Documents
- SEC EDGAR Company Tickers / Mutual Fund Tickers
- SEC EDGAR Company Profile
- SEC EDGAR Company Facts / XBRL Frames
- SEC EDGAR Full-Text Search (EFTS)
- SEC EDGAR Insider Transactions / 13F Holdings

Legal public data only. No Playwright. Limited-permission Actor. Standby is off.

### Input

- `month` (string, required): e.g. `2026-08` or `202608` → `2026-08_vip.zip`
- `maxFilings` (integer, default 25, max 200)
- `cik` (optional string): CIK filter
- `nameContains` (optional string): substring on submission name
- `formContains` (optional string): substring on `form` or `docType` (e.g. `N-4`, `485BPOS`, `497`)
- `seriesId` (optional string): keep submissions that include this seriesId in `scn.tsv`

### Output

One dataset item per VIP submission: accessionNumber, cik, name, form, docType, filed, accepted, docEndDate, ein, business/mailing address fields, countryinc/stprinc, former, seriesClassCount, seriesCount, classCount, numCount, txtCount, month, sourceUrl.

Rows sort newer `filed` first; non-amendment forms before amendments when `/A` is detectable.

### SEC User-Agent

SEC fair-access rules require a User-Agent with a contact. This Actor reads `SEC_USER_AGENT` and defaults to `sec-edgar-variable-insurance-products (dostrovsky@gmail.com)`.
