## Pricing

from $1.40 / 1,000 search terms

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper: Regions & Rising Queries

This Google Trends scraper pulls interest over time, interest by region and related queries (top and rising) for SEO, content planning, market research and AI agents. It is **built for Google's rate limits**. Google rate-limits Trends aggressively, and most scrapers give up and leave you with an empty dataset. This one backs off, rotates to a fresh session and IP, and retries, so your runs finish. **You only pay for search terms that return data.**

### What data can you scrape from Google Trends

- **Interest over time**: 0–100 index per date (hourly for short ranges), with partial-period flags
- **Interest by region**: countries, states, cities or US metro areas (DMA)
- **Related queries**: top and **rising** (breakout terms with % growth)
- **Related topics**: top and rising, with Google's topic IDs
- Compare **up to 5 keywords** on one line: `pickleball, padel, tennis`

### Google Trends API alternative (no API key)

Google's own Trends API is in a limited alpha with a waitlist. This Actor works as a **Google Trends API** today: call it from the Apify API, Python, JavaScript, Make, Zapier or n8n, and get JSON back. You don't need a Google API key, a quota or pytrends.

### How to scrape Google Trends data

Enter one or more search terms (separate up to 5 with commas to compare them), pick a location and a time range, and run. Example input:

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["pickleball, padel", "home assistant"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeRange": "today 12-m",
  "outputFormat": "nested"
}
```

Time ranges cover the past hour up to 2004-present, plus custom dates. You can also choose web, image, news, Shopping or YouTube search, and any Trends category.

### Output example (nested)

```json
{
  "searchTerm": "pickleball, padel",
  "geo": "US",
  "interestOverTime": [{"date": "2026-07-19", "values": {"pickleball": 79, "padel": 14}, "isPartial": false}],
  "interestByRegion": [{"geoCode": "US-FL", "geoName": "Florida", "values": {"pickleball": 100}}],
  "relatedQueries": {"pickleball": {"top": [...], "rising": [{"query": "...", "value": 3050, "formattedValue": "+3,050%"}]}}
}
```

Choose **Flat time series rows** for one row per date and keyword, ready for Google Sheets, Excel or a chart. It pairs well with our *Google Sheets Import & Export* Actor.

### Tips

- **Schedule it** (Apify Schedules) to track keywords weekly, and watch the **rising** lists for breakout topics.
- Values are relative (0–100) *within* one query. Compare keywords on the same line to get comparable numbers.
- Use the default **residential proxy** for the best success rate.

### How much does it cost

Pay per event: **$0.00175 per search term** delivered (100 terms ≈ $0.18), plus the standard start fee. Apify Silver plans get 10% off, Gold and higher 20%. Failed terms are free and listed in the `FAILED` record of the key-value store.

### Use Google Trends in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

Connect Apify's MCP server (mcp.apify.com) and your AI assistant can call this Actor directly. For example: "what's trending around 'home assistant' in the US this quarter?" The only required input is `searchTerms`. Everything else has a sensible default.

### FAQ

#### Does Google Trends have an API?

Google's official Trends API is in a limited alpha and needs an approved application. This Actor gives you the same data (interest over time, regions, related queries and topics) through the Apify API, with no Google API key.

#### Is the Google Trends API free?

Google Trends itself is free to browse. This Actor charges $0.00175 per search term that returns data, and Apify's free plan includes $5 of platform credit every month, which covers a lot of terms.

#### How do I download Google Trends data?

Run the Actor, then export the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON, or send it to Google Sheets. Choose **Flat time series rows** to get one row per date and keyword.

#### How does a Google Trends scraper work?

It requests the same data the Google Trends website shows (interest over time, regions, related queries and topics) and returns it as JSON or flat rows, so you can use it in code, Google Sheets or Excel.

#### Why does my Google Trends scraper keep failing or return nothing?

Google rate-limits Trends aggressively. This Actor waits, switches to a fresh session and IP, and retries. Terms that still fail are free and listed in the `FAILED` record, never silently missing.

#### Can I get rising and breakout queries?

Yes. Turn on related queries and topics and you get both the **top** and **rising** lists, with the growth value (for example `+3,050%`).

#### Are Google Trends numbers absolute search volume?

No. Values are relative (0 to 100) within one query. Put the keywords you want to compare on the same line (up to 5) to get comparable numbers.

#### Is it legal to scrape Google Trends?

The data is public and no login is used. You are responsible for following Google's terms and the laws that apply to you.

#### Can I track keywords every week?

Yes. Use Apify Schedules to run it on a timer and watch the rising lists for breakout topics.
