## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## LinkedIn Skill Mapper

Find where a rare skill actually lives — so hard-to-fill roles become findable.

### Watch the demo

YouTube video coming soon.

### What this Actor does

Give it a technology or skill (and optionally a location and industry). The Actor samples the people who have it and returns **where it concentrates**:

- One row per company, with how many of the sampled people work there and what share of the pool that is.
- A summary row with the total sampled and the top locations.

Instead of guessing which companies to approach for a hard-to-fill role, you see the answer: the companies where the skill actually sits, ranked.

It uses public data only, requires no cookies and no login.

### Input

| Field | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `technology` | string | Yes | The skill or technology to map (e.g. `Kubernetes`, `Salesforce`, `Rust`) |
| `keywords` | string | No | Extra keywords to narrow the pool |
| `location` | string\[] | No | City, region, or country |
| `industry` | string\[] | No | Employer industries |
| `seniority` | string\[] | No | Optional seniority filter |
| `max_people` | integer | No | Hard cap on people sampled — the main cost control (default `100`, 1–500) |

Example:

```json
{
  "technology": "Kubernetes",
  "location": ["Germany"],
  "max_people": 100
}
```

### How to use it

1. Enter the skill or technology.
2. Optionally scope by location and industry.
3. Click **Start**.
4. Read the company rows top-down — those are the deepest pools of that skill.

### Output

One row per company, plus a summary row:

```json
{
  "schemaVersion": "1.0",
  "checkedAt": "2026-09-25T10:00:00+00:00",
  "insightType": "company_concentration",
  "technology": "Kubernetes",
  "companyName": "Globex",
  "peopleCount": 14,
  "share": 0.14,
  "totalSampled": 100,
  "locations": [],
  "collectedAt": "2026-09-25T10:00:00+00:00"
}
```

The summary row (`insightType: "summary"`) carries `peopleCount` = total sampled and `locations` = the top locations.

The `OUTPUT` key-value-store record reports the technology, people sampled, companies with the skill, and top locations.

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Actor start | $0.05 |
| Skill insight | $0.03 |

You pay per insight row. A 100-person sample producing 30 company rows is about $1.00.

### Common uses

- **Hard-to-fill roles** — find the companies that actually hold the skill.
- **Market intelligence** — see where a technology's talent clusters geographically.
- **Recruiting targeting** — approach the deepest pools first.
- **Vendor and partner research** — map the ecosystem around a technology.

### Limits

- Results reflect the searchable index for that skill, not every person who has it.
- `share` is the share of the sampled pool, not of the whole market.
- Companies with very few sampled people appear lower; raise `max_people` for a wider read.
- One skill per run.

### Automation

Run from the Apify API, schedules, or webhooks. Download the same dataset as JSON, CSV, or Excel.

### Feedback and support

Use the Actor's Issues tab for reproducible problems. Include the technology and filters you used, but do not include credentials.

### FAQ

**How much does it cost to run this Actor?**
Pricing is listed in the Pricing section above, charged per row returned. You only pay for the rows
the Actor actually produces, so a small test run costs cents.

**Do I need cookies or a LinkedIn login?**
No. This Actor reads public data only - no cookies, no account, no browser automation.

**Can I schedule it?**
Yes. Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or via a webhook, and export results as JSON, CSV or Excel.

**What if I need a slightly different output?**
Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab describing the shape you need.
