## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ASO App Rank Tracker

Track iOS chart rank, rating, rating count, version and price for any app, in any storefront country. Run it daily and you get a delta - who moved, by how much, and what changed - instead of a number you have to remember.

📈 **Top Free and Top Paid rank** per country <br>

🔻 **Delisted detection** - an app that leaves the store is reported <br>
💰 **Free-to-paid changes** tracked <br>
🔔 **Webhook on change** with HMAC signing <br>
🛡️ **Chart-failure flags** so an Apple outage never reads as a rank drop

### What data do I get?

One dataset record per app per run.

- **`rankFree` / `rankPaid`** - position in the storefront's top 100, or `null` when not ranked
- **`rankDelta`** - positive means it moved up, negative means it dropped
- **`averageRating`**, **`ratingCount`**, **`ratingDelta`** - storefront-wide rating data
- **`version`** and **`versionChanged`** - ships are a leading indicator of rank movement
- **`removed`** - true when an app that was tracked last run is gone from the store
- **`chartFreeOk` / `chartPaidOk`** - false when Apple's chart could not be fetched, so a `null` rank is not mistaken for falling out of the top 100
- **`suspicious`** - true when the chart failed, meaning the rank is unknown rather than lost

### How much does it cost?

Pay per event: **$0.50 per 1,000 apps tracked** ($0.0005 each) - half the price of the cheapest app-rank actor on Apify. You are not charged for apps that fail to look up.

| You track | Runs | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10 apps, daily | 300 | **$0.15** |
| 100 apps, daily | 3,000 | **$1.50** |
| 200 apps, daily | 6,000 | **$3.00** |

### How do I use it?

1. [Create](https://console.apify.com/sign-up) a free Apify account.
2. Open **App Store Rank Tracker** in Apify Console.
3. Paste one or more App Store IDs, or use `{"id": "...", "country": "gb"}` objects for other storefronts.
4. Add a `webhookUrl` if you want alerts instead of polling.
5. Run once as a baseline, then schedule it daily.
6. Compare `rankDelta` and `version` rather than absolute rank.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `apps` | array | App Store IDs (`"389801252"`) or objects (`{"id": "389801252", "country": "gb"}`). Default country is `us`. |
| `trackCharts` | boolean | Fetch top-free and top-paid charts to compute rank. Default true. |
| `webhookUrl` | string | Optional https endpoint, called only when something changed. |
| `webhookSecret` | string | Optional. Adds `X-Signature-256: sha256=...`. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Optional, for networks where Apple blocks the datacenter IP. |
| `concurrency` | integer | Apps processed in parallel (default 4). |

```json
{
  "apps": ["389801252", {"id": "310633997", "country": "gb"}],
  "trackCharts": true,
  "webhookUrl": "https://hooks.slack.com/services/..."
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "appId": "389801252",
  "country": "us",
  "name": "Instagram",
  "rankFree": 35,
  "rankPaid": null,
  "averageRating": 4.69055,
  "ratingCount": 29681256,
  "version": "454.1",
  "releasedAt": "2026-11-04T14:29:10+00:00",
  "price": 0,
  "rankDelta": 0,
  "ratingDelta": 0,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-11-06T08:54:53+00:00",
  "chartFreeOk": true,
  "chartPaidOk": true,
  "suspicious": false
}
```

The `RANK_SIGNALS` record holds per-app signals and totals (`rankedFree`, `rankChanges`, `versionChanges`, `removed`, `chartFailures`).

### Notes and exceptions

- **Charts are top 100 only.** An app ranked 140 shows `rankFree: null` - which is why `chartFreeOk` exists, so you can tell "not in the top 100" from "Apple did not answer".
- **One chart fetch per country, not per app.** A run with 200 US apps costs one chart request, not 200.
- **Ratings are storefront-wide**, not per version and not per country.
- **The first run is a baseline.** `rankDelta` is `null`; deltas start from the second run.
- **App cap:** 200 apps per run. Larger lists are truncated and the count is reported.
- **A delisted app alerts once.** After reporting `removed`, its state is cleared so it does not fire every run.
- **Apple's chart RSS is occasionally unavailable.** That is reported as `suspicious: true` and the previous rank is preserved rather than wiped.

### What can I do with the data?

**Watch a launch.** Baseline your app and three competitors the week you ship. Daily `rankDelta` tells you whether the launch is climbing or stalling, and `versionChanged` catches the competitor's update that pushed you down.

**Category war room.** Track the twenty apps above and below you. When several drop at once, something changed in the store's ranking; when one jumps, look at what it shipped.

**ASO reporting.** One row per app per day is a chart-ready time series. Send it to a sheet or a BI tool; no manual screenshots.

### FAQ

**Do I need an Apple developer account or API key?** No. The actor reads Apple's public lookup and chart feeds.

**Can I track Android apps?** Not in this version - the chart source is the App Store.

**Why is `rankPaid` null?** The app is free, so it is not in the paid chart. That is a correct answer, not a failure.

**Can I track apps in another country?** Yes, pass `{"id": "...", "country": "gb"}`. One app can be tracked in several storefronts at once.

**How fast is it?** A 200-app run typically completes in under a minute, because charts are cached per country.

- **0.1** - First release.

# Actor input Schema

## `apps` (type: `array`):

Apple app IDs to track, e.g. 389801252. The ID is the number after 'id' in an App Store URL. A plain string tracks the US storefront; use {"id": "389801252", "country": "gb"} to track another country.

## `trackCharts` (type: `boolean`):

When on, read the top-free and top-paid chart for every tracked country and record the app's position. Turn it off to track ratings, rating counts and versions only.

## `webhookUrl` (type: `string`):

If set, a JSON digest is POSTed whenever a chart rank, a version or a rating count changed since the previous run. Must be https; private and loopback addresses are refused.

## `webhookSecret` (type: `string`):

When set, requests carry X-Signature-256: sha256=HMAC(secret, raw body), so your endpoint can verify the payload.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Leave empty by default - both Apple endpoints are public and usually reachable directly. Enable a proxy only if requests fail from your IP; it then applies to every request in the run.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many apps to look up at once. Charts are shared and fetched once per country regardless of this value.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "apps": [
    "389801252"
  ],
  "trackCharts": true,
  "concurrency": 4
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `ranks` (type: `string`):

One record per app per run: appId, country, name, rankFree, rankPaid, averageRating, ratingCount, version, releasedAt, price, rankDelta, ratingDelta and scrapedAt.

## `signals` (type: `string`):

Per app: rankFree, rankPaid, rankDelta, ratingDelta, versionChanged and isFirstRun, plus run totals, health and the webhook result.
